고지방식이를 투여한 생쥐에서 마황과 향부자의 항비만 효능 비교 연구 (The comparative studies on anti-obesity effects of Ephedrae Herba and Cyperi rhizoma in high fat diet fed mice)

  • Objectives : This comparative study was to investigate on anti-obesity effects of Ephedrae Herba and Cyperi rhizoma in high fat diet(HFD) fed mice. Methods : Male C57BL/6J mice were fed a normal diet(normal group, N), high fat 45 cal% diet[HFD, control group, C), HFD with Ephedrae Herba(EH group) and Cyperi rhizoma(CR group) extracts fed for 5 weeks. We were observed as follows : changes of body weight, amount of diet intake, weight of total visceral fats, levels of obesity-related hormones and blood lipids. Results : The change of body weight after EH and CR oral administration significantly more decreased in EH group than that of control group. The FFR(Food Efficiency Ratio) was decreased in EH group, but more increased in CR group than that of control group. The weight of periepididymal and perirenal fats were significantly decreased in EH and CR groups compared to the control group. The levels of serum leptin and insulin were significantly decreased in EH group, and the level of serum adiponectin was increased in EH group compared to control group. The levels of serum triglyceride and total cholesterol were significantly decreased in EH and CR groups, and HDL-cholesterol levels was significantly increased in EH group compared to control group. Conversely in CR group, its values showed the opposite effect. The staining density of lipid droplets within the hepatocytes was widely distributed in CR and control groups, but in EH group, its density was weakly stained. Conclusions : These experimental results suggest that Ephedrae Herba shows conspicuous anti-obesity effect, and Cyperi rhizoma shows weak anti-obesity effect.

홍국균접종 쌀배아 섭취가 중등도 비만 초등학생의 체지방 및 혈중지질의 개선에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Monacolin - Inoculated Rice Embryo on the Body Fat and Serum Lipid Profiles of Obese Elementary School Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Monacolin-inoculated rice embryo on the body fat and serum lipid profiles in 61 obese elementary school students. The subjects divided into two groups 31 obese children had the experimental diet (rice embryo inoculated Monacolin) and 30 obese children had the control diet three times a day after meals. The mean age, height, weight, and BMI of 61 subjects were $10.5\pm0.5$ years, $143.6\pm6.8cm,\;55.0\pm8.9kg,\;and\;26.1 \pm3.9$, respectively. The changes of body fat mass (kg) in experimental group and control group after 6 weeks were -0.60kg and -0.03kg, respectively. The changes of body fat $(\%)$ in experimental group and control group after 6weeks were $-1.44\%\;and\;-0.25\%$, respectively. These changes of body fat in experimental group were significantly higher than in control group (p<0.05). The change of total-cholesterol in experimental group and control group during 6weeks were -17.52mg/dL and -1.70mg/dL, respectively. The change of LDL-cholesterol in experimental group and control group during 6 weeks were -17.06mg/dL and - 2.80mg/dL, respectively. The change of triglyceride in experimental group and control group after 6 weeks were -9.58mg/dL and 11.67mg/dL. Total-cholesterol, LDL- cholesterol and triglyceride of experimental group after 6 weeks significantly decreased compared to control group (p<0.05). After experimental diet (6 weeks), total-cholesterol was negatively correlated with body water contents, soft lean mass and fat free mass (p<0.05). Triglyceride showed a significantly positive correlation with body weight and body fat mass, however, it was negatively correlated with fat free mass (p<0.05). HDL-cholesterol showed a significantly positive correlation with fat free mass (p<0.05). These results show that Monacolin-inoculated rice embryo is effective in decreasing body fat and blood lipid in obese children.

난소를 절제한 마우스에서 갱년기증후군에 대한 오미자의 효과 (Effects of Schisandrae Fructus on menopause symptoms in ovariectomized mice)

  • Objectives: The present study aimed at investigating the effects of Schisandrae Fructus (SF) on menopause symptoms in ovariectomized mice. Methods: 6 weeks old female mice were ovariectomized (OVX), and the OVX mice were fed with a three doses of SF (25, 100, and 400 mg/kg, respectively) or $17{\beta}$-estradiol (E2, 0.5 mg/kg) 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Body weight was measured at every week and uterus weight was also measured at the end of experiment. Lipids and osteocalcin levels in serum were analyzed. Results: The uterine weight was not changed in SF treated group, while E2 intake increased the reduced uterine weight by OVX. Although Body weight was increased since two weeks after ovariectomy compared with sham operated group, there was no change in SF or E2 treated group compared with OVX. But LDL was significantly reduced in SF (400 mg/kg) or E2 fed mice and SF or E2 treatment decreased enhanced osteocalcin level by OVX. Conclusion: These results indicated that SF would be effective in the improvement of LDL level and osteoporosis on menopause.

석류가 갱년기 장애를 유도한 흰쥐의 혈 중 지질 함량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Punica granatum L. Extracts on Serum Lipids Level in Ovariectomized Rats)

  • 석류(Punica granatum L.)는 생리활성이 강한 천연성분인 폴리페놀과 탄닌이 많이 함유되어 있어 예로부터 전통요법의 치료제로 사용되어 왔으며, 최근에는 석류의 phytoestrogen을 이용하여 갱년기 치료에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행중이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 석류의 씨와 껍질의 ethanol 추출물과 석류 껍질 분획물을 이용하여 인위적으로 난소를 절제하여 폐경을 야기 시킨 흰쥐에서의 혈 중 지질 농도의 변화를 검토하였다. 그 결과 혈 중 total-cholesterol 및 triglyceride 농도에 있어서는 석류 ethanol추출물 투여에 의한 유의적인 효과는 없었으나, triglyceride의 경우 석류 껍질 추출물의 $200mg/kg{\cdot}bw/day$투여군에서는 OVX-control에 비하여 낮게 나타났다. 또한 혈 중 HDL-cholesterol농도는 석류씨와 껍질부분을 추출한 모든 실험군에서 동맥경화의 지표로서 관상성 심장질환에 대한 방어 작용을 가지고 있는 HDL-cholesterol 함량이 높게 나타났다. 특히 석류 껍질부분의 ethanol추출물의 경우 OVX-control에 비하여 유의적으로 나타나 갱년기장애로 인한 심혈관계 질환을 예방하는 천연 에스트로겐 대체 식품으로서의 귀추가 주목된다.

일부 직장 남성들의 운동형태가 심혈관질환의 위험 예측인자에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Exercise Type on Cardiovascular Disease Risk Index Factors in Male Workers)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to gain an understanding of the effects of three exercise types on anthropometric and serum lipids and physiological index factors, which are known to be the three risk factors of cardiovascular disease in male workers. Methods : The experimental study period was 12 weeks. In this study, 30-40's males (N=31) were assigned to 3 experimental groups: regular aerobic(treadmill walking) exercise group, regular anaerobic(muscular endurance) exercise group, irregular aerobic & anaerobic exercise group and a control group using a stratified random assignment method. Results : In relation to anthropometric factors, the regular aerobic & anaerobic exercise groups showed significant decreases in Weight, Broca's index, WC, BMI, WHtR, WHpR and HRrest. With regard to the serum lipid factors, the TC was decreased, but the HDL-c increased among the regular aerobic & anaerobic exercise groups. However, no significant difference was found between the other groups in respect to the LDL-c and TG. Considering the physiological factors, the TC/HD-c, TC-HDL/HDL-c, LDL-C/HDL-c and NON-HDL-c ratios were decreased, but the HDL-c/TC ratio increased among the regular aerobic & anaerobic exercise groups. The TG/HDL-c and HDL-c/LDL-c ratios showed no significant differences between the groups. These results indicated that the positive change for each factor is much larger in the regular exercise groups, especially in the anaerobic exercise group. Conclusions : The results indicate that not only regular aerobic exercise, but also regular anaerobic(muscular endurance) exercise could be utilized in lessening the deleterious effects of the risk index factors for cardiovascular disease.

영양교육이 비만 여중생의 체지방과 혈청지질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Nutrition Education Program on Body Fat and Blood Lipids of Obese Young Adolescent Girls)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a nutrition education program on 42 obese young adolescent girls. Nutrition education was performed for six months including both group and individual programs, and was focused on improving their eating habits and food composition. The topics discussed once a week included : eating habits, lifestyle management, 5 basic food groups, snack and fast-food, how to eliminate empty calories, fat and hyperlipidemia, food diary, benefits and methods of exercise, vitamin and minerals, evaluation of fad diets, yo-yo effects and so on. The effects of the nutrition education program were evaluated for nutrition education and exercise regimen group (NE+E), nutrition education only group(NE), and control group(C). NE+E group had additional exercise programs 3times each week, while NE group was educated about exercise only by a nutrition education program. In both NE+E and NE groups, there was a significant decrease in bodyfat compared to C group, but NE+E group had a greater change than NE group(5.5% vs 3.1%). In addition, serum triglycerides decreased about 40mg/dl and total cholesterol 20mg/dl in both NE+E and NE groups. But HDL-C level was increased only in NE+E group. The greater changes in body fat and blood lipid levels occurred between the pre- and mid terms fo the education regimen. They kept their changed measurement throughout the 6 months follow-up studies. The results of this study show that this nutrition education program is helpful for obese adolescent girls in decreasing body fat and serum lipid levels. Also, the combination of an exercise regimen with the nutrition education proved to be more effective.

고지방 식이를 섭취한 흰쥐에서 발효 삼정환의 항비만 효과 (Anti-Obesity Effects of Fermented Samjung-hwan in Hign Fat Diet Rats)

  • Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the effects of fermented Samjung-hwan (SJH) extracts on weight, serum lipids and blood glucose. Methods: SJH was fermented using three different probiotic bacterial strains (Lactobacillus plantarum [LP], Leuconostoc mesenteroides [LM], Bifidobacterium longum [BL]) separately. Thirty-six rats were divided into normal, control (high fat diet), SJH-UF (high fat diet+unfermented SJH 200 mg/kg), SJH-LP (high fat diet+LP fermented SJH 200 mg/kg), SJH-LM (high fat diet+LM fermented SJH 200 mg/kg) and SJH-BL (high fat diet+BL fermented SJH 200 mg/kg). For 8 weeks later, we examined body weight, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol and blood glucose. Results: The control group showed significantly increased weight gain compared with normal group and SJH-LP and BL groups had less weight gain than control group, significantly. In the lipid serum tests, control group showed significantly increased total cholesterol levels compared with normal group and only SJH-LP represented decreased total cholesterol levels compared with control group. However there was no significant change in the HDL-cholesteol levels. In the blood glucose tests, that of control group significantly incereased more than that of normal group, SJH-BL showed significantly decreased blood glucose levels compared with control group. Conclusions: SJH-LP, SJH-BL showed weight control effect, SJH-LP decreased TC and SJH-BL reduced blood glucose.

The antioxidant activity of steamed ginger and its protective effects on obesity induced by high-fat diet in C57BL/6J mice

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Ginger, a root vegetable, is known to have antioxidant and antiobesity effects. Preparation, such as by steaming, can affect the chemical composition of prepared root vegetables or herbs and can change their functional activities. In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of steamed ginger against oxidative stress and steatosis in C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat diet. MATERIAL/METHODS: The levels of polyphenols and flavonoids in two different extracts of steamed ginger, i.e., water extract (SGW) and ethanolic extract (SGE); as well, their antioxidant activities were examined. Forty male C57BL/6J mice were fed a normal diet (ND, n = 10), high-fat diet (HFD, 60% fat, w/w, n = 10), HFD supplemented with 200 mg/kg of SGE or garcinia (GAR) by weight (SGED or GARD, respectively, n = 10) for 12 weeks. Serum chemistry was examined, and the expressions of genes involved in lipid metabolism were determined in the liver. Histological analysis was performed to identify lipid accumulations in epididymal fat pads and liver. RESULTS: The SGE had higher contents of polyphenols and flavonoids and higher DPPH and $ABTS^+$ free radical scavenging activities compared to those of SGW. Treatment with SGE or GAR significantly decreased the HFD-induced weight gain. Both SGE and GAR significantly reduced the high serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and low-density lipoprotein levels induced by HFD. Compared to ND, HFD significantly increased hepatic TC and TG levels. SGE or GAR supplementation significantly decreased the increase of hepatic lipids by HFD. Interestingly, SGE had a more significant effect in reducing hepatic TC and TG levels than GAR. Furthermore, hepatic genes involved in lipogenesis and lipolysis were altered in both the SGED and GARD groups. CONCLUSIONS: The present study indicates that steamed ginger supplementation can decrease plasma TC and TG and can inhibit liver steatosis by regulating the expressions of hepatic genes.

사료 지질원으로 우지, 대두유 및 오징어 간유 첨가에 따른 조피볼락 Sebastes schlegeli의 성장 및 체성분 변화와 절식시 체내 대사 (Effects of Dietary Beef Tallow, Soybean Oil and Squid Liver Oil on Growth and Body Composition of the Korean Rockfish Sebastes schlegeli, and Biochemical Changes with Starvation)

  • 사료의 n-3HUFA 함량이 $1.6\%$ 이상 함유되도록 조절한 3종의 실험 사료로 43g 전후의 조피볼락을 19주간 사육 실험한 후, 136g전후의 어체를 45일간 절식시켜 사료 지질원에 따른 조피볼락의 성장 및 체성분의 변화와 절식시 체내 대사를 조사하였다. 증중율, 사료 효율, 단백질 축적 효율 및 지질 축적 효율 모두 사료 지질원에 따른 유의차가 없었다$(P\geq0.05)$ 간과 등 근육의 총지질 중의 지방산은 사료 지질원의 조성비에 영향을 받아, monoene산은 우지 첨가구에, n-6계 지방산 (18:2n-6, 22:4n-6)들은 대두유 첨가구에, n-3계 지방산 (20 : 5n-3, 22 : 6n-3)들은 오징어 간유 단독 첨가구에 상대적으로 더 높게 조성되어 있었다. 전 어체 및 등 근육의 일반 성분은 실험구별로 차이가 없었으며, 간 중량비 및 내장 중량비도 차이가 없었다. 간과 내장의 수분 함량은 오징어 간유 구가 타 실험구에 비해 높았으며, 간지질 함량은 우지 첨가구가 가장 높았다. 간 중량비 및 내장 중량비는 모두 절식기간 중에 전체적으로 감소하였으며, 오징어 간유 구가 타 실험구에 비해 그 감소폭이 컸다. 절식 15일까지는 근육 단백질과 지질이 감소하였고, 그 후부터는 간의 글리코겐 함량이 감소하였으며, 내장 지질은 절식 기간 중 계속 감소하는 현상을 보여 절식 중에 이용되는 에너지원의 형태와 시기가 다르게 나타났다. 혈청 성분은 지질원에 따라 절식 기간별로 이동되는 형태가 약간 다르게 나타나기는 하였으나, 절식 기간이 길어짐에 따라 점차 그 차이는 없었다.

동해안 심층수의 혈행 및 혈중지질 개선효과 (Effect of the Deep Sea Water of East Coast on Blood Flow and Serum Lipids)

  • 식생활의 서구화로 인하여 심혈관계질환의 발생빈도 증가로 인한 사망률이 늘어나고 있다. 따라서 최근 이용가치가 인정 되어지고 있는 해양 심층수를 이용하여 심혈관계 질환의 개선효과를 알아보았다. 심층수의 혈소판 응집 억제능을 알아보기 위해, in vitro 실험에서 washed platelet를 분리하여 심층수를 농도별로 처리한 후, collagen으로 혈소판 응집을 유도하여 심층수의 응집억제 실험을 한 결과 그 농도별로 응집이 감소되었다. 그리고 in vivo 실험에서도 심층수를 투여하지 않은 군에 비해 심층수를 투여한 군에서 혈소판 응집이 감소하였으므로 이는 심층수가 혈소판 응집에 효과적인 것으로 보여진다. 또한 혈청 중의 중성지질 함량이 감소되었고, 고밀도 지단백은 증가하였다. 혈류 속도 측정에서도 심층수를 투여한 그룹이 투여하지 않은 군에 비해 더 빠른 속도로 모세혈관을 빠져나가는 것을 볼 수 있었으며, 이것으로 보아 심층수를 투여한 그룹에서 혈행에 있어 좋은 효과가 있음을 나타내었다. 본 실험의 결과 심층수가 혈소판 응집, 혈청 지질 농도, 혈류 속도에 유효한 효과를 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. 이는 잘못된 식습관으로 오는 비만이나, 심혈관계질환에 유익한 결과를 줄 것으로 사료된다.
