Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine factors related to different stages of mammography screening based on the transtheoretical model (TTM) and health belief model (HBM). Method: 143 women were recruited from community centers in W city. The mean age was 44.08 (SD=7.78) and 74 (51.7%) had experienced education on preventative behavior related to breast cancer. The Decisional Balance Scale (Pros and Cons of mammography) and Stages of Adoption of Mammography Scale by Rakowski et al. (1992) and the revised Health Belief Model Scale (Perceived Seriousness, Perceived Susceptibility and Health Motivation) by Champion (1993) were used. Result: According to the stage of adoption of mammography, 17.4% of the women were In pre-contemplation, 45.5% in contemplation, 24.5% in action, and 12.6% in maintenance. The mean differences for pros, and the decisional balances between the stages of mammography adoption were significant (F=8.84, p=.000; F=7.20, p=.000). Education related to prevention of breast cancer was the most important variable. Prevention education, history of breast disease and pros of mammography explained the stages of mammography adoption ($R^{2}=26%$). Conclusion: Findings support TTM as a useful tool for improving mammography adherence. Behavioral interventions that target decisional balance and health belief can effectively promote adherence to mammography.

Training for asthma patients by professionals has been highly emphasized for patients' self-management. In the present study, three standardized training sessions targeting hospital pharmacists were performed. On the basis of the number of training sessions taken, a non-educated group (CG), an once-educated group (NG), and a twice more-educated group (IG) were allocated. The most frequent errors of using an inhalant were shaking before the use in MDI while taking breathe out before inhaling in the case of DPI, and the total average number of errors were the biggest for CG and the smallest in IG. On comparison in the number of the four symptoms of asthma according to the level of seriousness, it was revealed that the total average number was the biggest in CG and the smallest in IG. In the level of awareness regarding the contents of training for patients, patients over 50 tended to answer that they were aware of education contents, and particularly in mouth rinsing and the use before/after a meal, significant similarity was examined. Regular asthma patient training performed by hospital pharmacists appeared to reduce errors in the inhaler usage, increase the quality of life of an patient, and help a patient remember the contents of the training. Especially among patients over 50, it was found to be more effective and retraining of more than two sessions was requisite.

We attempted to apply the HACCP system adopted in the food industry to a olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) aquaculture farm to ensure the hygiene safety of farmed fish. In this study, HACCP system procedures, including HACCP team organization, critical point determination, establishment of standard limits etc., were established using Codex 12 procedures. To determine whether hazards were critical elements, we evaluated the likelihood and seriousness of each hazard element. The likelihood of residual medicine exceeding the acceptable limit in shipped fish products was demonstrated to be a critical hazard element. Management of the shipment stage was determined to be a critical control point (CCP). Checking the records for stock and release and maintaining a history of medicine use before shipping the fish were suggested as monitoring methods. The standards for acceptable residual medicine were set based on relevant laws and regulations, and then the limits were adapted and established for the CCP. An HACCP plan applicable to olive flounder farms was established.
PURPOSES : The bridge section of the expressway has a worse driving environment than the general section. However, traffic safety countermeasures are focused only on the bridge section. Traffic safety countermeasures on the section before entry to the bridge and the section after exit from the bridge are applied only when the bridge has a long-span section. Accordingly, this study will verify the necessity of extending the application of traffic safety countermeasures to areas that are affected by the bridge. METHODS : This study determines the areas that are affected by the bridge as well as the areas that are affected by locations with frequent traffic accidents and suggests the risk factors by affected areas through canonical discriminant analysis. For the analysis, traffic accident data for 3 years, which occurred on bridge sections in six major expressway lines, were used. RESULTS : The numbers of traffic accidents were 469 before the bridge, 281 on the bridge, and 468 after the bridge. The variables that have impact on the seriousness of accidents are as follows: speeding, excess manipulation of the steering wheel, and failure to secure safety distance for accidents that occurred before the bridge section; speeding, excess manipulation of the steering wheel, and dozing off for accidents that occurred on the bridge; and speeding and failure to secure safety distance for accidents that occurred after the bridge section. CONCLUSIONS : Areas affected by the bridge show higher accident rates than the bridge section; therefore, imposing traffic safety countermeasures on the integrated section of the bridge and the affected areas is required. It is believed that the results suggested in this study could be effectively used in the prevention of traffic accidents by imposing custom-made safety countermeasures for each section.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to help treatment of Anxiety disorder patients through the study on Keongke(驚悸) and Cheongchung(怔忡) in "Donguibogam" Methods : Author searched the contents of Keongke(驚悸) and Cheongchung(怔忡) in "Donguibogam" and classfied them by concept, pathogenesis and treatment. Results : 1. Concepts of Keongke(驚悸) and Cheongchung(怔忡) are to leap up, be nervous and fear something. Keongke(驚悸) and Cheongchung(怔忡) are same kinds of disease but they are only distinguished as their seriousness. 2. There are four main causes of Keongke(驚悸) and Cheongchung(怔忡) such as phlegm and fluid retention(痰飮), insufficiency of the heart(心虛), being blocked of qi(氣鬱) and Hwa(火). Additionally the diseases are caused by astonishment(驚) excessive thought(思慮過度), insufficiency of the liver(肝虛), excessive perspiration and dirarrhea (汗,下過多) insufficiency of qi(氣鬱) 3. the number of herbal medicines which treat Keongke(驚悸) and Cheongchung(怔忡) are 68. In result of analyzing them, the number of herbal medicines to treat phlegm(痰) are 22 and the number of herbal medicines to treat deficiency of the heart blood(血心虛) are 18. 4. The number of herbs which treat Keongke(驚悸) and Cheongchung(怔忡) are 25. They stabilize Hon-Baek(魂魄), spirit(精神) and mind(心神), supplement the heart blood, and treat Damhwa(淡火) and Hwa(火). Poria(茯神) take a rule of leading to the causes of Keongke(驚悸) and Cheongchung(怔忡).
Objectives : In this study, patients with tic disorders who visited an Oriental medicine clinic were examined for their demographic characteristics, characteristics of symptoms, relation to Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) and peculiarity according to various variables such as motor and vocal tics. Methods : After surveying 292 patients who visited an Oriental medicine clinic with tic symptoms as main complaints for 17 months, SAS 9.1, a statistical program was used for statistical analysis. Results : 1. The BMI of male tic patients was significantly higher than female ones and it was similar to or higher than the normal group. 2. Patients who are eldest children were 1.7 times higher than those who are not eldest ones. 3. The most usual case of motor tics was the eye blink and the most one of vocal tics was a dry cough. 4. There was no significant difference between male and female patients for all symptoms of motor and vocal tics, but male patients had significantly more obsessions related to tics than female ones. 5. There was no significant difference in the age of initial occurrence of Transient tic disorder(TTD), Chronic tic disoder(CTD) and Tourette's disorder(TD). 6. For the general disorder of a tic and Conners' ADHD rating scale, there was no significance in TTD, CTD and TD. 7. 66% out of the total subjects of 197 cases were found to score more than 65 points in more than 1 items among 8 items such as the time, hearing, wrong alarm, mean response time and standard deviation in the response time, etc. of the ADHD diagnosis system(ADS). 8. The eye blink among motor tics was shown mainly by patients under 10 years old and the frown, movement of the head, shrug and movement of the arms were shown mainly by 11-19 years old patients. Conclusions : For the number, frequency, seriousness and inconvenience in life of tics, TD showed a significantly higher result than TTD and CTD.
Polypharmacy is increasing owing to an increase in the elderly population and multimorbidities associated with the increased risk of administration of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs). The negative effects of polypharmacy on various health conditions and aspects, such as fall, fracture, mortality, cognitive function, and dementia, have been reported. The management of excess and inappropriate polypharmacy through proper interventions and local or national guidelines has been highlighted. The purpose of polypharmacy management is to appropriately prescribe medicines that are essential to treat diseases in patients and to avoid inappropriate polypharmacy, such as interactive or duplicate medicines under prescription and PIMs for specific diseases. Community pharmacists in Australia, the EU, USA, and Japan are collaborating with prescribers to review medications to ensure that the patients can be prescribed appropriate medications. The service cost is reimbursed by public or private insurers. A study in the United States has shown that even with medication review costs, the overall medication cost has reduced. In Korea, various projects such as Drug Utilization Review service and safe use of medicines have been conducted; however, no national guidelines or management measures have been established. It is necessary to implement a national long-term plan on polypharmacy management. Furthermore, a phased implementation plan is required. Shortly, active medication review services and education programs for healthcare professionals with the support of the government should be considered in Korea with reference to other countries in order to raise awareness of seriousness and risks of inappropriate polypharmacy.
Purpose: This study purposed to investigate the relationship between soldiers' general characteristic and their knowledge, attitude and health-belief about AIDS. Method: This study conducted a survey of 197 soldiers using a structured questionnaire. Data were collected from the 10th to 30th of May 2003. Result: The average age of the participants was 21.6 years, 78.2% of them were undergraduates of universities, and by religion the number of Christians was largest. In addition, 81.2% of them had lived with their parents and siblings before they joined the army and most of them were unmarried. Of the subjects, 75.1% finished education about AIDS, 64.5% experienced a sexual intercourse and 6.3% experienced a venereal disease. The participants' knowledge level about AIDS was 14.6 out of 20 points and their attitude about AIDS is 3.96 out of 5 points on the average. Their health-belief about AIDS was 4.0 out of 5 points in 'perceived benefits,' 2.9 in 'perceived barriers,' 2.6 in 'perceived seriousness' and 2.6 in 'perceived sensitivity. Among the subjects' general characteristics, religion was found to be a statistically significant variable for their knowledge level about AIDS. A variable that is statistically significant for the subjects' attitude toward AIDS was families they had lived together before joining the army. Statistically significant variables for the subjects' health-belief about AIDS were perceived sensitivity and experience in venereal diseases, perceived benefits and AIDS education and perceived barriers and marital status. The subjects' knowledge about AIDS was in a statistically significant correlation with their attitude toward AIDS, and their attitude toward AIDS with perceived benefits. Conclusion: According to the results of this study. those who had had AIDS education appeared to have high attitude and health-belief concerning AIDS. Thus it is necessary to execute AIDS education systematically and continuously in order to have right attitude and high health-belief concerning AIDS.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine differences in health care utilization and related costs between before and after the introduction of the designated doctor system, and to find out factors making the differences. Methods: Data were collected from 200 medical aid beneficiaries having one or more chronic diseases, registered in the designated doctor system during the year of 2012, and the relationship between the use of health services and claimed medical expenses was analyzed through paired t-test and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 18.0 program. Results: There was a decrease in the number of total benefit days and the number of outpatient and medication days, but some cases showed an increase after the designation of medical institution. In general, hospital stay increased after the introduction of the system. However, the number of medical institutions utilized was reduced in most cases after designation. Conversely, medical expenses increased in most cases after the designation of medical institution. Conclusion: These results suggest that a detailed scheme to designate medical institutions should be made in consideration of the seriousness of illness and classification of medical institutions not only for the beneficiaries' enhanced health but for the effective management of medical aid fund.
Objectives: Promotion of food safety/eradicating adulterated food has been listed as one of the four major issues recently identified for action by the Korean government. Due to the related seriousness, the food industry has been encouraged to take steps to restore consumer confidence. In order to set guidelines for the creation of manuals for the response to a food safety crisis by the food industry, this study provided a suggested organization for a crisis response team and operating procedures for crisis response activities. Methods: The prototypes of an organizational structure and a set of standard procedures for a crisis response system were provided. Results: The results of the study suggested that a crisis response team should be comprised of four divisions of responsibility: information analysis, site response, communication and operational support. The organization chart and the role and functions for each division of the crisis response team should be indicated. Response activities will be more effective when the team features multi-disciplined staffing, such as public relations, food safety/technology/quality, sales/marketing, purchasing, production, distribution/logistics, regulatory affairs/legal, and consumer service specialists. This study created a flow chart for the total crisis response system, which included crisis and normal situations. A crisis response team should be continuously operated for both crisis and normal conditions. This study also suggested a scenario to explain the procedures for crisis response activities. Conclusion: In order to cope more effectively with a food safety crisis, the organizational structure and its functions should be defined clearly, and a detailed set of standard procedures for response activities should be offered.
