  • This paper deals with a fixed frequency full-bridge inverter type DC-DC high-power converter with high frequency high voltage(HFHV) transformer-coupled stage, which operates under quasi-resonant ZVS transition priciple in spite of a wide PWM-based voltage regulation processing and largely-changed load conditions. This multi-resonant(MR) converter topology is composed of a series capacitor-connected parallel resonant tank which makes the most of parasitic circuit reactive components of HFHV transformer and two additional quasi-resonant pole circuits incorporated into the bridge legs. The soft-switching operation and practical efficacy of this new converter circuit using the latest IGBTs are actually ascertained through 50kV trially-produced converter system operating using 20kHz/30kHz high voltage(HV) transformers which is applied for driving the diagnostic HV X-ray tube load in medical equipments. It is proved from a practical point of view that the switching losses of IGBTs and their electrical dynamic stresses relating to EMI noise can be considerably reduced under a high frequency(HF) switching-based phase-shift PWM control process for a load setting requirements.

  • This paper presents a new soft-switching partial series resonant DC/DC converter (PSRC) with zero-voltage on/off simultaneously, suitable for application in the high power and high frequency switching. The proposed converter has not only advantages of the conventional PSRC but also zero-voltage turn-on and turn-off of the main switches for the entire load ranges by adding the auxiliary circuit, and zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) turn-on of the auxiliary switches. The operation principles of the new converter are explained in detail and the several interesting simulation and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed circuit.

The system is consists of PFC(Power Factor Correction), Full-Bridge inverter, S-S(Series-Series) resonant circuit and Full-Bridge rectifier. The parameters of the S-S resonant circuit is designed and calculated. According to these parameters and the switching devices, the system model without PFC is setted up with thermal module devices in PSIM. When output voltage is setted to 50[V] and input voltage is changed from 100[V] to 380[V], The efficiency of the system model is measured by simulation.

  • This paper presents a zero voltage switching (ZVS) converter with three resonant tanks. The main advantages of the proposed converter are its ability to reduce the switching losses on the power semiconductors, decrease the current stress of the passive components at the primary side, and reduce the transformer secondary windings. Three resonant converters with the same power switches are adopted at the low voltage side to reduce the current rating on the transformer windings. Using a series-connection of the transformer secondary windings, the primary side currents of the three resonant circuits are balanced to share the load power. As a result, the size of both the transformer core and the bobbin are reduced. Based on the circuit characteristics of the resonant converter, the power switches are turned on at ZVS. The rectifier diodes can be turned off at zero current switching (ZCS) if the switching frequency is less than the series resonant frequency. Therefore, the reverse recovery losses on the rectifier diodes are overcome. Experiments with a 1.6kW prototype are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

  • Recent trends in high-power-density applications have highlighted the importance of designing power converters with high-frequency operation. However, conventional LLC resonant converters present limitations in terms of high-frequency driving due to switching losses during the turn-off period. Switching losses are caused by the overlap of the voltage and current during this period, and can be decreased by reducing the switch voltage. In turn, the switch voltage can be reduced through a series connection of four switches, and additional circuitry is essential for balancing the voltage of each switch. In this work, a three-level LLC resonant converter that can operate at high frequency is proposed by reducing switch losses and balancing the voltages of all switches with only one capacitor. The voltage-balancing principle of the proposed circuit can be extended to n-level converters, which further reduces the switch voltage stress. As a result, the proposed circuit is applicable to high-input applications. To confirm the validity of the proposed circuit, theoretical analysis and experimental verification results from a 350 W-rated prototype are presented.

  • We propose a high voltage dc-dc converter for a CW (continuous wave) $CO_2$ laser system using a current resonant half-bridge inverter and a Cockcroft-Walton circuit. This high voltage power supply includes a 2-stage voltage multiplier driven by a regulated half-bridge series resonant inverter. The inverter drives a step-up transformer and the secondary transformer is applied to the voltage multiplier. It is highly efficient because of the reduced amount of switching losses by virtue of the current resonant half-bridge inverter, and also due to the small size, low parasitic capacitance in the transformer stage owing to the low number of winding turns of the step up secondary transformer combined with the Cockroft-Walton circuit. We obtained a maximum laser output power of 44 W and a maximum system efficiency of over 16%.

  • This paper presents a novel prototype of dual mode control based phase shift ZVS PWM high frequency load resonant inverter with lossless snubber capacitors in addition to a single active auxiliary resonant snubber for electromagnetic induction heating(IH) foam metal based consumer fluid dual packs(DPA) heater. The operating principle in steady state and unique features of this voltage source soft switching high frequency inverter circuit topology are described in this paper. The lossless snubber and auxiliary active resonant snubber assisted constant frequency phase shift ZVS PWM high frequency load resonant inverter employing IGBT power modules actually is capable of achieving zero voltage soft commutation over a widely specified power regulation range from full power to low power. The steady state operating performances of this dual mode phase shift PWM series load resonant high frequency inverter are evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results for induction heated foam metal heater which is designed for compact and high efficient moving fluid heating appliance in the consumer pipeline systems.

  • This paper suggests a 3-phase series-resonant type high voltage capacitor charger for an EML pulsed power system. The operating principle on the charger is explained by an equivalent circuit. Additionally, we analyze the charging characteristic in one discontinuous conduction mode and three continuous conduction modes. The analysis shows that the resonant current per phase is two thirds of the 3-phase charger's average charging current and one third of the single-phase charger's average charging current with the same capacity. We suggest a design method of the 3-phase capacitor charger in each operational mode and present an example of 3.5 kW capacitor charger at ${\omega}_s=0.33{\omega}_r$. The 3.5 kW 3-phase capacitor charger prototype is assembled with a TI28335 controller and a 40 kJ, 7 kV capacitor. The design rules based on the analysis are verified by experiment.
