  • In this study, numerical simulations for a single fixed truncated circular cylinder in regular waves were conducted to investigate the nonlinear wave run-up under various dampers and wave period conditions. The present study used the volume of fluid (VOF) technique to capture the air-water interface. The unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equation with the k- 𝜖 turbulence model was solved using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software STAR-CCM+. First, a systematic spatial convergence study was conducted to assess the performance and precision of the present numerical wave tank. The numerical scheme was validated by comparing the numerical results of wave run-up on a bare truncated cylinder with the experimental results, and a good agreement was achieved. Then, a series of parametric studies were carried out to examine the wave run-up time series around the truncated cylinder with single and dual dampers in terms of the first- and second-order harmonic and mean set-up components. Additionally, the local wave field and the flow velocity vectors adjacent to the cylinder were evaluated. It was confirmed that under short wave conditions, the high position of the damper led to a noticeable increase in the wave run-ups with significant changes in the first- and second-order harmonic components.

  • In this study, a series of shaking table model tests were performed to evaluate the dynamic earth pressure acting on pile foundation during liquefaction. The dynamic earth pressure acting on piles were evaluated with depth and pile diameters comparing with excess pore water pressure, it means that the kinematic load effect plays a substantial role in dynamic pile behavior during liquefaction. The dynamic earth pressure acting on pile foundations with mass exhibited significant similarity to those without upper mass. Analyzing the non-fluctuating and fluctuating components of both excess pore water pressure and dynamic earth pressure revealed that the non-fluctuating component has a dominant influence. In case of non-fluctuating component, dynamic earth pressure is larger than excess porewater pressure at same depth, and the difference increased with depth and pile diameter. However, in the case of the fluctuating component, the earth pressure tended to be smaller than the excess pore water pressure as the depth increased. Based on the results of a series of studies, it can be concluded that the dynamic earth pressure acting on the pile foundation during liquefaction is applied up to 1.5 times the excess pore water pressure for the non-fluctuating component and 0.75 times the excess pore water pressure for the fluctuating component.

  • The bridge hanger is exposed to cyclic loads, such as wind and vehicle loads, which can induce fatigue failure, significantly reducing its operational lifespan. Additionally, the hanger is prone to corrosion throughout transportation, construction, and operation. Although corrosion fatigue curves are typically derived from individual steel wire experiments, the bridge hanger comprises multiple parallel steel wires. Consequently, a corrosion fatigue curve based on a single wire may not accurately portray the hanger's longevity, and data solely at the component level may not encompass the overall system-level condition. To tackle this challenge, this paper introduces a series system-level reliability assessment framework based on dynamic Bayesian Networks, accounting for the interdependence between variables. Specifically, the framework encompasses a time-varying reliability model featuring three random parameters (corroded number, equivalent structural stress, and the total cycles number of wires) and leverages seven numerical simulation studies to investigate the impacts of these random parameters on system reliability.

  • In the fashion retail research, the role of fashion salesperson and their job satisfaction have been getting attentions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the elements affecting the job satisfaction of fashion salesperson. A hypothetical path model of job satisfaction of fashion salesperson was developed and tested. Empirical data were collected with a written survey instrument. Data were collected from 150 fashion salespersons during 2001 fall, and finally 101 responses were analyzed. As results of series of regression analysis, final job satisfaction model was identified. Job satisfaction of fashion salesperson was affected by subjective job aptitudity, salary, fashion product knowledge. fashion involvement, and work experience. Managerial implication and research limitation were discussed.

  • Indoor ozone has received attention because of its well-documented adverse effects on health. In addition to the inherently harmful effects of ozone, it can also initiate a series of reactions that generate potentially irritating oxidation products, including free radicals, aldehydes, organic acids and secondary organic aerosols (SOA). Especially, ozone reacts actively with terpene. The overarching goal of this work was to better understand ozone and terpene distributions within rooms. Towards this end, the paper has two parts. The first describes the development of a cylindrical test chamber that can be used to obtain the second order rate constant $(k_b)$ for the bi-molecular chemical reaction of ozone and terpene in the air phase. The second consists of model room experiments coupled with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of the experimental scenarios to obtain ozone and terpene distributions in various turbulent flow fields. The results of CFD predictions were in reasonable agreement with the experimental measurements.

  • For the calculation of internal stability, the hypothesis in conventional design is on the basis of two distinct zones, which are‘active zone’and‘passive zone’. This means that there is an abrupt discontinuous transition from active to passive states across a potential failure line. The existence of a discontinuity of this nature appears physically unreasonable, especially from kinematic considerations. A series of pull-out model tests was undertaken from a wall being rotated about the toe to find the strain distribution mobilized from near the wall face into the deep, stable zone through the centre plane. With this finding of transition zone, the objective of study is aiming at identifying the likely effect of this zone in designing method by comparing with the prevailing design method.

  • A series of bearing capacity tests was conducted with eccentrically loaded model surface and shallow strip footings resting close to a slope to investigate behavior of such footings (ultimate loads, failure surfaces, load-displacement curves, rotation of footing, etc.). Ultimate loads of footing close to slope decreased with increasing eccentricity for both surface and shallow footings. Failure surfaces were not symmetrical, primary failure surfaces occurred on the eccentricity side (the slope side) and secondary failure surfaces occurred on the other side. Lengths of failure surfaces decreased with increasing eccentricity. Footings always rotated towards eccentricity side a few degrees. For eccentrically loaded footing, decrease in ultimate load with increasing eccentricity is roughly in agreement with Customary Analysis.

  • I introduce a derivative called "Snowball Currency Option" or "USDKRWSnowball Extendible At Expiry KO" which was traded once in the over-the-counter market in Korea. A snowball currency option consists of a series of maturities the payoffs at which are like those of a long position in a put option and two short position in an otherwise identical call. The strike price at each maturity depends on the exchange rate and the previous strike price so that the strike prices are random and path-dependent, which makes it difficult to find a closed form solution of the value of a snowball currency option. I analyze the payoff structure of a snowball currency option and derive an upper and a lower boundaries of the value of it in a simplified model. Furthermore, I derive a pricing formula using integral in the simplified model.

  • The Purpose of this paper is to analysis on consumer's purchasing behavior and intention of local food. To analysis consumer's purchasing behavior, a series of homemaker surveys were conducted. The sample size of the survey is 416 respectively. As a survey result, consumer's purchasing behavior shows that purchasing ratio of local food and buying place is various type. By decision tree model analysis showed that consumer's purchasing intention is enough to establishing local food system in region. Therefore, strategies for regional consumption are needed expression of the place city and county of origin, diversification of purchasing item and buying area, and sustainable improvement for safety and trust on local food.

  • This paper presents an improved method that constructs an equivalent T-S fuzzy model for nonlinear systems expressed by nonlinear differential equations including terms of power series. The method in this paper has fewer numbers of the rules than the previous methods as well as exactly expresses nonlinear systems. Moreover, this method can get wider feasible area satisfying the stability conditions than the previous methods. We show the improvement of modeling by comparing the proposed method with two previous methods through an inverted pendulum on a cart.
