  • The previous studies argue that using the semantic properties of BIM objects is efficient for simulating the behaviors of autonomous, computer agents, called virtual-users, but such assumption is not proven via evidence-based research approaches. Hence, this present study aims to investigate the empirical effects of a human behavior simulation model equipped the semantics of spaces on the architecture-major students' operation and understanding of the simulation system, compared to a typical path-finding model. To achieve the aim, this study analyzed the survey and interview data, collected in the authentic design projects. The analysis indicates that (1) using a simulation model equipped the semantics of spaces helps the students' operation of the simulation, and (2) it also aids understanding the relationship between the variables of spaces and virtual-users (${\alpha}=0.74$). In addition, the qualitative data inform that the advantages of the simulation model that computes the semantics of spaces stem in the automatic behavioral changes of massive numbers of virtual-users, and efficient detection and activation on the what-if situations. The analysis also reveals that the simulation model has shortcomings in orchestrating the complex data structure between the semantics properties of spaces and virtual-users under multi-sequential scenarios. The results of this study contribute to develop a future design system combining BIM with human behavior simulation.

  • Despite the vast literature on the effects of root canal irrigants on the dentin characteristics, the precise effects of clinically relevant irrigation sequences remain unclear. In this review, we systematically dissect the role of different sequential irrigation approaches that are used in clinical endodontics. Using a systematic search strategy, we attempt to answer the question: 'Which irrigating sequence has the most deleterious effects on dentin structure and properties?' The effect of irrigants on the dentin composition and mechanical properties have been reviewed. A wide variety of concentrations, duration and techniques have been employed to characterize the effects of chemicals on dentin properties, thus making it impossible to draw guidelines or recommendations of irrigant sequences to be followed clinically. It was apparent that all the studied irrigation sequences potentially result in some deleterious effects on dentin such as decrease in the flexural strength, microhardness, modulus of elasticity and inorganic content and organic-inorganic ratio of the dentin. However, the literature still lacks comprehensive investigations to compare the deleterious effect of different irrigation sequences, using a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative methods. Such investigations are essential to make clinical recommendations and strategize efforts to minimize chemically-induced damage to dentin characteristics.

  • Transparent conducting films having a hybrid structure of GZO/Metal/GZO were prepared on glass substrates by sequential deposition using DC magnetron sputtering. Silver, copper, aluminum and zinc thin films were used as the intermediate metal layers in the hybrid structure. The electrical and optical properties of hybrid transparent conducting films were investigated with varying the thickness of metal layer or GZO layers. With increasing the metal thickness, hybrid films showed a noticeable improvement of the electrical conductivity, which is mainly dependent on the electrical property of the metal layer. GZO(40 nm)/Ag(10 nm)/GZO(40 nm) film exhibits a resistivity of $5.2{\times}10^{-5}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ with an optical transmittance of 82.8%. For the films with Zn interlayer, only marginal reduction in the resistivity was observed. Furthermore, unlike other metals, hybrid films with Zn interlayer showed a decrease in the resistivity with increasing the GZO thickness. The optimal thickness of GZO layer for anti-reflection effect at a given thickness of metal (10 nm) was found to be critically dependent on the refractive index of the metal. In addition, x-ray diffraction analysis showed that the insertion of Ag layer resulted in the improvement of crystallinity of GZO films, which is beneficial for the electrical and optical properties of hybrid-type transparent conducting films.

  • By the in vitro combinatorial mutagenesis, which is a sequential reaction of PCR mutagenesis and in vitro coupled transcription/translation with Escherichia coli S30 extract, S65 and E222 of green fluorescent protein of Aequarea victoria were comprehensively changed to all possible combinations of amino acids, thus totally 400 mutant (including a wild type) proteins were simultaneously produced and their fluorescent properties were analyzed. Although a few mutations had been reported so far at the 222nd position, replacement E222 to all other19 amino acids gave fluorescent signal to the mutants by changing Ser 65 to Ala together. Among the mutants, replacement to G, A, S, Q, H and C gave relatively high fluorescence. The in vitro combinatorial mutagenesis, therefore, has been proved valuable for comprehensive structure-function studies of proteins.

  • This experiment was done to investigate the leaching and adsorption properties of heavy metals on porphyry. The comparison with respect to the leachability of heavy metals from porphyry between the Korea Standard Leaching Test (KSLT) and the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) was carried out. The fractional composition of leachate and the total concentration of heavy metal of porphyry were studied through Sequential Extraction Procedure (SEP) and EPA Method 3050. Adsorption experiment of porphyry has pointed out that the optimum dosage of porphyry for 50ppm Pb was over 10g/L, the effective particle size for absorption was below 200 mesh and the optimum pH was about 7. From the Freundlich' adsorption equation, 1/n was 1.0722, and k was 0.0041. After adsorption, the fractional composition of Pb was changed. The exchangeable, carbonate, reducible fractions were increased, and the organic fraction was not changed, and the residual fraction was decreased.

  • In this paper, a method to classify insider threat activity is introduced. The internal threats help detecting anomalous activity in the procedure performed by the user in an organization. When an anomalous value deviating from the overall behavior is displayed, we consider it as an inside threat for classification as an inside intimidator. To solve the situation, Markov Chain Model is employed. The Markov Chain Model shows the next state value through an arbitrary variable affected by the previous event. Similarly, the current activity can also be predicted based on the previous activity for the insider threat activity. A method was studied where the change items for such state are defined by a transition probability, and classified as detection of anomaly of the inside threat through values for a probability variable. We use the properties of the Markov chains to list the behavior of the user over time and to classify which state they belong to. Sequential data sets were generated according to the influence of n occurrences of Markov attribute and classified by machine learning algorithm. In the experiment, only 15% of the Cert: insider threat dataset was applied, and the result was 97% accuracy except for NaiveBayes. As a result of our research, it was confirmed that the Markov Chain Model can classify insider threats and can be fully utilized for user behavior classification.

  • Biosynthesis of prostanoids is regulated by three sequential enzymatic steps, namely phospholipase $A_2$ enzymes, cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, and various lineage-specific terminal prostanoid synthases. Prostaglandin E synthase (PGES), which isomerizes COX-derived $PGH_2$ specifically to $PGE_2$, occurs in multiple forms with distinct enzymatic properties, expressions, localizations and functions. Two of them are membrane-bound enzymes and have been designated as mPGES-1 and mPGES-2. mPGES-1 is a perinuclear protein that is markedly induced by proinflammatory stimuli, is down-regulated by anti inflammatory glucocorticoids, and is functionally coupled with COX-2 in marked preference to COX-1. Recent gene targeting studies of mPGES-1 have revealed that this enzyme represents a novel target for anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer drugs. mPGES-2 is synthesized as a Golgi membrane-associated protein, and the proteolytic removal of the N-terminal hydrophobic domain leads to the formation of a mature cytosolic enzyme. This enzyme is rather constitutively expressed in various cells and tissues and is functionally coupled with both COX-1 and COX-2. Cytosolic PGES (cPGES) is constitutively expressed in a wide variety of cells and is functionally linked to COX-1 to promote immediate $PGE_2$ production. This review highlights the latest understanding of the expression, regulation and functions of these three PGES enzymes.
