A Study on the Development of Multi-sensory Virtual Reality System based on Realistic Media (실감미디어 기반의 다감각 가상 체감시스템 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This paper proposes how to develop a multi-sensory virtual reality system based on realistic media that can improve the sense of immersion and reality experienced by the user. We suggest four types of multi-sensory virtual reality system; a realistic media experience system which provides sensory experiences to user by interlocking the media file with the sensory informations and reproducing the sensory information suitable for the scene, a real image-based panorama experience system which maximizes the sense of reality, an experience ball system in which users engage themselves into the system environment to lead the story and immersion of the content through interaction with the system, and a cultural heritage experience system based on hand movement recognition. The suggested systems can be applied in a various area such as education, advertisement, culture and arts, performance, exhibition, sports, game, 4D Experience Center, and so on. We supposed that it can contribute to create a variety of sensible contents services in the realistic media industry through the convergence of media, contents, and devices.

  • As the prevalence of mobile platforms, expanding digital content production and also increasing interest about the serious game. However, existing educational serious games are short of application of educational function and lower effectiveness that not linked with off-line education. In this paper, we developed an educational serious game 'Rice-Mimi Adventure' for children based Tablet PC. The Games are designed five steps by four elements that storytelling, playing, music and cooking. Specially, players interaction between characters should be increase their own concentration and interest. For the effectiveness verification that linked education of on/off-line, experiment to 126 students of 3,4th grade in Choenan. A result shows positive data that on/off-line linked education using Tablet PC and effectiveness of game contents applied design factors. For this work, we should find effective class and teaching method using digital contents in off-line education for children.

  • The fast-growing pet industry is expanding its reach to digital content for dogs. In this regard, the study aims to present game elements applicable to pet content, taking into account the sensory characteristics of dogs: visual, auditory, and olfactory. To this end, attendance and rules were drawn as factors to induce continuous use of content by pet owners, and intimacy and compensation were derived as game elements so that dogs could get positive responses by feeling fun and interesting through content. Through this study, we expect to revitalize the newly evolving dog content industry.

  • Some games distract the player's immersion on purpose through the progression and direction of the game, thereby giving them an opportunity for rational awareness. In this paper, we tried to analyze the characteristics and types of alienation strategies of digital games. So we investigated the anti-immersive property of the game with the effect of Brecht 's alienation and proposed three strategic types of digital games that cause the anti-immersive effect into 'disturbance of sensory information', 'reversal of narrative and overturning of genre' and 'limitation of experience'.

  • Virtual reality(VR) is known as immersive multimedia or computer-simulated reality, is a computer technology that replicates an environment, real or imagined, and simulates a user's physical presence and environment to allow for user interaction. Virtual realities artificially create sensory experience including sight, touch, hearing, and smell. Owing to the use of a single device in most VR contents, user have difficulty in manipulating user interface and game object. And also immersion of the game goes down because they can't see the mouse and keyboard in virtual space. In this paper, we design and implement the chess game to easily and accurately control user interface to improve the immersion in game.

  • The current situation and problems of sensory console games was analyzed focusing on the Nintendo 'Wii.' In order to develop the limitation of contents that lean strongly towards sports and fail to offer diversity one step further into glocal cultural contents, a solution of applying 'Bollywood', which has a main musical format, is presented. Bollywood is a unique cultural code of India which can stimulate the purchase desires of consumers with its exotic freshness in third countries, and can be used to lead sales of a new form of game culture that is familiar yet in a new format in the 1.1 billion population Indian market. The political, social and economic codes of Bollywood are examined in this study in addition to cultural contents and codes that include Bollywood to develop contents that are not foreign to their culture.

  • Virtual reality technology is recognized as a next-generation technology and can create realistic environments like the real world and reproduce sensory experiences. And it is a cutting-edge technology that allows humans to experience the same real-world experience in a virtual world by computing the five senses with computers. Also Virtual reality is a technology that has the advantage of experiencing reality in cyberspace and is applied to content such as movies and games. However, many users who use virtual reality can feel cybersickness. And it especially in virtual reality games. This is an important issue for the virtual reality game industry to be resolved. Main symptoms of cyberscickness include dizziness, headache, and vomiting. Existing motion sickness and symptoms are similar, but the cause of cybersickness is different from traditional sickness. Therefore, this study uses virtual reality games and data from various organizations to determine the causes of cybersickness. Also, it intends to contribute to the development of the virtual reality game industry by presenting methods to supplement these problems.

Incentive Mechanism in Participatory Sensing for Ambient Assisted Living

  • Participatory sensing is becoming popular and has shown its great potential in data acquisition for ambient assisted living. In this paper, we propose an incentive mechanism in participatory sensing for ambient assisted living, which benefits both the platform and the mobile devices that participated in the sensing task. Firstly, we analyze the profit of participant and platform, and a Stackelberg game model is formulated. The model takes privacy, reputation, power state and quality of data into consideration, and aims at maximizing the profit for both participant and publisher. The discussion of properties of the game show that there exists an unique Stackelberg equilibrium. Secondly, two algorithms are given: one describes how to reach the Stackelberg equilibrium and the other presents the procedures of employing the incentive strategy. Finally, we conduct simulations to evaluate the properties and effectiveness of the proposed mechanism. Simulation results show that the proposed incentive mechanism works well, and the participants and the publisher will be benefitted from it. With the mechanism, the total amount of sensory data can be maximized and the quality of the data can be guaranteed effectively.

Research on the Application of VR Technology in Meteorological Simulation

  • Recent years, due to the direct or indirect damages caused by meteorological disasters more and more attention have been paid to natural disasters. At same time, diversified and multi-sensory interactive meteorological services is increasingly demanded. In this study, novel interactive meteorological service was compared with the traditional communication methods. Combining with case studies and systems creation, a virtual reality weather simulation framework was proposed, and a realistic virtual game environment providing real-time and historical weather information was created. The primary goal of this study is to build a weather display cabinet game system by using virtual reality technology, and promoting public's understanding of the principles of weather changes. With the interactive games in realistic scenarios, public's awareness for disasters prevention could be promoted. It is helping to change public's traditional understanding of meteorological theories, and will provide a more convenient way for the public to explore more effective weather forecasts. The simulation system is supported by VR technology. It was combined with Leap Motion interactive equipment to make popularization games for weather science. T-test data analysis showed that the application of VR technology in weather games has strong operability and interactivity.

A Method of Functional Game Design for the Silver Generation (실버세대를 위한 기능성 게임 디자인 방법)

  • Because of a rising in the standard of living and the development of medical technology, Korea is expected to become an aging society more than 14% elderly population and the silver generation will be responsible for the large portion of economic activities. The silver generation has relatively diminished in perception, learning, and exercise due to the physical aging. Therefore, it is important the development of game contents which can constantly provide the maintenance function of physical and mental health and the functional exercise with spending the leisure time. In this paper, we suggest a design method for developing the game contents which are able to help the silver generation to strengthen their lower extremities and to enjoy their leisure time. The proposed method will enable to lead the silver generation to carry on the physical activities with the amusement of playing a game through the functional design concepts appropriate for the ability of the silver generation's perception and physical activities, an adaptive game process customized by the individual capability and a user-friendly sensory interface.
