Lots of interdisciplinary studies for fusion of high technologes and the other areas of research had been tried in these days. In sports training area, high technologies like a vital sign sensor or an accelerometer were adopted as training tools to improve the performance of the sports players. The purpose of this study is finding the proper locations on the human body for attaching the motion sensors in order to develop a smart sportswear which could be helpful in training players. The rowing was selected as a subject sport as lots of movements of the joint on human body could be seen in rowing motions. The players of rowing could be devided into two weight divisions, the lightweight and the heavyweight. In this study, the change rates of distance between markers on human skin as the players moved were took on the back, the elbow, the hip and the knee area on human body by 3D motion capturing system. The distances between markers and the differences between the lightweight and heavyweight were analyzed. Finally, this study provided the guide lines for designing a motion sensing smart sportswear.
Watermelons (Citrulus vulgaris Schrad) are usually sorted manually by weight, appearance, and acoustic impulse, so grading of maturity and internal quality is subject to inaccuracies. It was necessary to develop a nondestructive evaluation technique of internal watermelon quality to reduce human error. Thus, acoustic characteristics related to internal quality factors were analyzed. Among these factors, three (ripeness, presence of an internal cavity, and blood-colored flesh) were selected for evaluation. The number of peaks and the sum of peak amplitudes for watermelons with blood-colored flesh were lower than for normal fruits. The portable evaluation system has an impact mechanism, a microphone sensor, a signal processing board, an LCD panel, and a battery. A performance test was conducted in the field. The internal quality evaluation model showed 87% prediction accuracy. Validation was conducted on 72 samples. The accuracy of quality evaluation was 83%. The quality of samples was evaluated by an inspector using conventional methods (hitting the watermelon and listening to the sounds), and then compared with prototype results. The quality evaluation accuracy of the prototype was better than that of the inspector. This nondestructive quality evaluation system could be useful in the field, warehouse, and supermarket
We introduce a novel and versatile approach for preparing self-assembled nanoporous multilayered films with antireflective properties. Protonated polystyrene-block-poly (4-vinylpyrine) (PS-b-P4VP) and anionic polystyrene-block-poly (acrylic acid) (PS-b-PAA) block copolymer micelles (BCM) were used as building blocks for the layer-by-layer assembly of BCM multilayer films. BCM film growth is governed by electrostatic and hydrogen-bonding interactions between the oppositely BCMs. Both film porosity and film thickness are dependent upon the charge density of the micelles, with the porosity of the film controlled by the solution pH and the molecular weight (Mw) of the constituents. PS7K-b-P4VP28K/PS2K-b-PAA8K films prepared at pH 4 (for PS7K-b-P4VP28K) and pH 6 (for PS2K-b-PAA8K) are highly nanoporous and antireflective. In contrast, PS7K-b-P4VP28K/PS2K-b-PAA8K films assembled at pH 4/4 show a relatively dense surface morphology due to the decreased charge density of PS2K-b-PAA8K. Films formed from BCMs with increased PS block and decreased hydrophilic block (P4VP or PAA) size (e.g., PS36K-b-P4VP12K/PS16K-b-PAA4K at pH 4/4) were also nanoporous. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the nanostructured electrochemical sensors based on patterning methods show the electrochemical activities. Anionic poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS) layers were selectively and uniformly deposited onto the catalase (CAT)-coated surface using the micro-contact printing method. The pH-induced charge reversal of catalase can provide the selective deposition of consecutive PE multilayers onto patterned PSS layers by causing the electrostatic repulsion between next PE layer and catalase. Based on this patterning method, the hybrid patterned multilayers composed of platinum nanoparticles (PtNP) and catalase were prepared and then their electrochemical properties were investigated from sensing $H_2O_2$ and NO gas. This study was based on the papers reported by our group. (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 128, 9935 (2006); Adv. Mater. 19, 4364 (2007); Electro. Mater. Lett. 3, 163 (2007)).

Among many types of light rail transits (LRT), the rubber-tired automated guide-way transit (AGT) is prevalent in many countries due to its advantages such as good acceleration/deceleration performance, high climb capacity, and reduction of noise and vibration. However, AGT is generally powered by high-voltage electric power feeding system and it may cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) to measurement sensors. The fiber optic sensor system is free from EMI and has been successfully applied in many applications of civil engineering. Especially, fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors are the most widely used because of their excellent multiplexing capabilities. This paper investigates a prestressed concrete girder bridge in the Korean AGT test track using FBG based sensors to monitor the dynamic response at various vehicle speeds. The serviceability requirements provided in the specification are also compared against the measured results. The results show that the measured data from FBG based sensors are free from EMI though electric sensors are not, especially in the case of electric strain gauge. It is expected that the FBG sensing system can be effectively applied to the LRT railway bridges that suffered from EMI.
The first drainage time in a day was controlled for precise irrigation management with low consumption of nutrient solution in tomato perlite bag culture system by measuring water level of drained water in drainage catchment part. This method automatically adjusted the irrigation time under any condition of light, temperature and humidity, resulting in stable water content in substrates. However, it was difficult to keep the time consistent as they were set. It drained with the deviation of 20 min in the treatment in which the first drainage time was set at 10:00 and 50 min in the treatment set at 10:30. The first drainage time was not constant, but the drain occurred stably before noon in the treatment of which irrigation frequency was longer than 30 min. The drainage ratio was better balanced in all the treatments using drainage level sensors than the treatment using time clock for irrigation control. High water and fertilizer efficiencies were obtained. Although the growth, total yield and sugar content were not significantly different between the treatments, fruit weight was higher in the treatments using drainage level sensors than that using timer.
A normal body temperature data base for cattle was established to utilize for automatic monitoring of abnormal body condition of cattle by using sensor network and radio frequency identification technology. Three castrated Holstein cattle (mean body weight: $318{\pm}12kg$) were employed for body temperature measurement. Animals were adapted at the stanchion barn over 2 weeks, and 4 places (skins of ear, neck, head and subcutaneous tissue of neck) of body temperatures were continuously measured through thermocouples and recorder devices for 9 days. All places of body temperatures were fluctuated throughout the day and showed a cyclic pattern, with higher temperature in day time and lower temperature in nigh time. Normal subcutaneous tissue temperature (core temperature) in a day was ranged from $36.1^{\circ}C$ to $38.2^{\circ}C$. Skin temperatures were varied largely with environmental temperature change. Ear, head and neck temperatures varied with $36.3{\sim}28.5^{\circ}C$, $36.1{\sim}28.0^{\circ}C$ and $35.0{\sim}28.2^{\circ}C$, respectively. In this study, we established a basic data base for normal body temperature in cattle. For more effective data base, it would be needed further study.
The use of drone-based hyperspectral image offers considerable advantages in high resolution remote sensing applications. The primary objective of this study was to select the optimal bands based on hyperspectral image for the estimation yield of the chinese cabbage. The hyperspectral narrow bands were acquired over 403.36 to 995.19 nm using a 3.97 nm wide, 150 bands, drone-based hyperspectral imaging sensor. Fresh weight data were obtained from 2,031 sample for each field survey. Normalized difference vegetation indices were computed using red, red-edge and near-infrared bands and their relationship with quantitative each fresh weights were established and compared. As a result, predominant proportion of fresh weights are best estimated using data from three narrow bands, in order of importance, centered around 697.29 nm (red band), 717.15 nm (red-edge band) and 808.51 nm (near-infrared band). The study determined three spectral bands that provide optimal chinese cabbage productivity in the visible and near-infrared portion of the spectrum.

For accurate speed and current control in industrial applications, SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) is very important to synchronize the stator phase excitation and rotor position in the drive due to its nature. In general, position sensors such as encoder and resolver are used to generate rotational force by exciting the stator winding according to the rotor position and to control the motor by using speed and position information. However, for these sensors, 1) the cost of the sensors is quite large in terms of price, so the proportion of the motor system to the total system cost is high. 2) In terms of mechanical, position sensors such as encoders and resolvers are attached to the stator to increase the size and weight. In conclusion, in order to drive the SRM, control based on the rotor position information should be basically performed, and it is important to design the SRM driving system according to the environment in consideration of the application field. Therefore, in this paper, we intend to study the driving and control characteristics of SRM through variable switching duty control by designing a low-cost analog driving device, deviating from the general control system using the conventional encoder and resolver.

The icing formation at aircraft occur problems such as increasing weight of the body, fuel efficiency reduction, drag reduction, the error of sensor, and etc. The viscosity of polyurethane (PU) topcoat was measured at 60℃ in real time to set the pre-curing time. SiO2 nanoparticles were dispersed in ethanol using ultra-sonication method. The SiO2/ethanol solution was sprayed on PU topcoat that was not cured fully with different pre-curing conditions. Surface roughness of SiO2/PU nanocomposites were measured using surface roughness tester and the surface roughness data was visualized using 3D mapping. The adhesion property between SiO2 and PU topcoat was evaluated using adhesion pull-off test. The static contact angle was measured using distilled water to evaluate the hydrophobicity. Finally, the pre-curing time of PU topcoat was optimized to exhibit the hydrophobicity of SiO2/PU topcoat.
