  • AE(acoustic emission) sensor has been used for a state monitoring and observation during a ultra-precision machining because AE signal, which has high frequency range, is sensitive enough. In case of ceramic fabrication, a monitoring of machining state is important because of its hard and brittle nature. A machining characteristic of ceramic is susceptibly different in accordance with variable machining conditions. In this study, Yttria($Y_2O_3$) ceramic was fabricated using the ultra-precision lapping process with in-process electrolytic dressing(IED) method. And the surface machining characteristic and AE sensor signal were compared and analyzed.

  • Due to a variable noises in the field underground lines, clear technology of noises is very important in the diagnosis technology of partial discharge. Therefore we progressed filter test to improve the measuring test of partial discharge in a field. We applied to field test after making W-LC filter for partial discharge measurement, and then designed experimental environment such as under- ground distribution lines of field. Measuring sensor for test was UHF sensor. And we analysed those using the Lemke Probe and oscilloscope (TDS-3054, Tektro- nix). Finally, we obtained excellent data of noise decrement in the joint box of 22.9[kV] distribution lines from above experiment.

  • This paper deals with speed-sensorless control of an AC servo motor using Fuzzy-Tuning High Gain Observer(FTHGO). Resolver or encoder can be used to measure a rotor speed, but it has a limit to detect motor speed precisely. To solve this problem, it is studied to measure a speed of an AC servo motor without sensor. In this paper, the gain of an observer to estimate motor speed is properly set up and designed using the fuzzy control theory. It calculates the differentiation of the rotor current of the AC motor and estimates the rotor speed using it. Proposed speed sensorless control is performed using the estimated speed as the control variable. Designed FTHGO is applied to AC servo motor to verify the feasibility of the proposed observer. Feasibility of the FTHGO proposed in this paper is proven comparing the experimental results with/without the speed sensor.

  • This paper describes the steering control and geomagnetism cancellation for an autonomous mobile robotusing MR sensors. The magnetic-resistive (MR) sensor obtains the vector summation of the magnetic fields from embedded magnets and the Earth. The robot is controlled by the magnetic fields from embedded magnets. So, geomagnetism is the disturbance in the steering control system. In this paper, we propose a new method of the sensor arrangement in order to remove the geomagnetism and robotbody interference. The proposed method uses two MR sensors located in a level plane and the steering controller has been developed. The controller has three input variables (dBx, dBy, dBz) using the measured magnetic field difference, and an output variable (the steering angle) ...

  • This paper presents a recoil and counter recoil motion measurement method using linear variable differential transformers(LVDT). The output of a LVDT is obtained from the differential voltage of the 2nd transformers. As the sensor core is attached to the motion body, the output is directly proportional to the core motion. Displacement, velocity and acceleration are measured from the core length. A comparison between the measurement result and the known value, which is obtained by the precision steel tape, shows that the accuracy and the usefulness of the proposed scheme is validated.

  • The present study concerns the simulation of supply-air control in a variable air volume (VAV) system. A stratified lumped thermal model (multi-zone model) is suggested to predict local thermal response of an air-conditioned space. The effects of various thermal parameters such as the cooling system capacity, the thermal mass of air-conditioned space, the time delay of thermal effect, and the building envelope heat transmission are investigated in detail. Further, the influence of control parameters, PI control factor and the sensor location on a VAV system is quantitatively delineated. The results obtained show that the previous homogeneous lumped thermal model (1-zone model) may predict a significantly different thermal response in the air-conditioned space according to the sensor location.

  • In this paper, we show that a variation in sampling rate give rise to system performance degradation and propose a method to effectively reduce the error. We first capture the variation as a first order autoregressive (AR) model and project it as an additional sensor measurement noise. By considering that the sensor measurements include correlated noise, we perform a decorrelation process and then apply a standard Kalman filter (SKF) to estimate the target-state. As a result of the two-step procedure, we achieve a significant reduction in the target state estimation error.

  • We have developed a compact, wavelength-selectable, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at mid ultraviolet for chemical warfare agent detection. The fundamental wave at 1064 nm is delivered by a pulsed solid state laser incorporating with a square-type Nd:YAG rod in a resonator closed by two crossed Porro prisms for environmental reliability. The output energy at 213 nm ($5{\omega}$) and 266 nm ($4{\omega}$) by ${\chi}^{(2)}$ process in the sequentially disposed BBO crystals are measured to be 6.8 mJ and 15.1 mJ, respectively. The output wavelength is selected for $5{\omega}$ and $4{\omega}$ by a motorized wavelength switch. The energy ratio of the $5{\omega}$ to the $4{\omega}$ is varied from 0.05 to 0.85 by controlling the phase matching temperature of the nonlinear crystal for sum-frequency generation without change of the output pulse parameters.
