  • Decision fusion in wireless sensor networks under non-Gaussian noise channels is studied. To consider the tail behavior noise distributions, we use a exponentially-tailed distribution as a wide class of noise distributions. Based on a canonical parallel fusion model with fading and noise channels, the likelihood ratio(LR) based fusion rule is considered as an optimal fusion rule under Neyman-Pearson criterion. With both high and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) approximation to the optimal rule, we obtain several suboptimal fusion rules. and we propose a simple fusion rule that provides robust detection performance with a minimum prior information, Performance evaluation for several fusion rules is peformed through simulation. Simulation results show the robustness of the Proposed simple fusion rule.

  • In the presence of infrared light, a CMOS Readout IC (ROIC) for a microbolometer typed infrared sensor detects the voltage or current that is caused by the changing in resistance in the bolometer sensor. A serious problem in designing the ROIC is how the value of the bolometer and reference resistors vary because of variations in manufacturing process. Since different pixel have different, resistance values, sensor operations must contend with fixed pattern noise (FPN) problems. In this paper, we propose a novel technique to compensate for the fluctuation in reference resistance by tiling into account the process variation. By using constant current source basing and correlated double sampling, we solved FPN.

  • Gap Sensor is widely used to measure vibration in power plant. In general the result of the vibration measurement may have special error due to two thermal characteristics of gap sensor such as sensitivity shift and zero shift. Thermal sensitivity is change of linearity and thermal zero shift is chang of offset. It is investigated two thermal characteristics for Rap son or in this paper.

  • A sensor having capability to measure two different kinds of ultrasonic waves selectively is described. Under the same bias field configuration, this magnetostrictive type sensor can selectively measure longitudinal waves and flexural ones. Since the switching operation of mode selection is made only by changing the polarity of the permanent magnets used to configure the bias field, it will be very useful after the permanent magnet are interchanged with electromagnets. In order to find the optimal operating bias field, finite elements analysis is used and the condition for flexural wave measurements to meet is found. The linearity of the sensor is verified by experiments and the requirements for linearity also are proposed.

  • This paper proposes a way to measure the displacement of a multi-point by using a pattern recognition from video signal. Generally in measuring displacement, gab sensor, which is a displacement sensor, is used. However, it is difficult to measure displacement by using a common sensor in places where it is unsuitable to attach a sensor, such as high-temperature areas or radioactive places. In this kind of places, non-contact methods should be used to measure displacement and in this study, images of CCD camera were used. When displacement is measure by using camera images, it is possible to measure displacement with a non-contact method. It is simple to install and multi-point displacement measuring device so that it is advantageous to solve problems of spatial constraints.

  • This paper presents a realization of sensor signal processing(noise filtering) and Fieldbus based communication for condition monitoring of check valve. we first acquired the AE(Acoustic Emission) sensor data at the KAERI check valve test loop, and their frequencies were analyzed to find the informative band. To reject background noises, bandpass filters have been designed. Also, to send the processed data to a remote site, wired communication facility has been realized via DeviceNet.

  • We developed a fiber-optic CT for large current monitoring in power systems. We used a FRG fiber sensor coil to suppress CT output degradation caused by linear birefringence, and different optical sources were used to compare their noise characteristics. From the experiments, we obtained output variation less than $\pm$0.4(%) when the sensor coil suffered mechanical perturbations, and the ASE source showed -23(㏈) less noise in the output than singlemode laser diode.

  • To detect external vibration signals on the latticed fence structure, distributed fiber optic sensor using Sagnac interferometer was fabricated and tested. The latticed structure fabricated with dimension of 170cm in width and 180cm in height, the optical fiber, 50m in length, distributed and fixed on the latticed structure. It was verified the sensitivity of the Sagnac interferometer using the PZT phase modulator. Fiber optic external vibration signal spplied to the latticed fence structure from 100Hz to several kHz. The interferometeric fiber optic sensor detected the excited vibration signal very effectively without any signal processing. The detected optical signals were compared and analyzed to the detected acclerometer signals.

  • Cellulose based electro-active paper (EAPap) is a new smart material that has a potential to be used in biomimetic actuator and sensor. Beside of the natural abundance, cellulose EAPap is fascinating with its biodegradability, lightweight, high mechanical strength and low actuation voltage. An actuating mechanism of EAPap is revealed to be the combination of ion migration effect and piezoelectricity. EAPap can generate the electrical current and voltage when the mechanical stress applied due to its electro-mechanical characteristics. In this paper, we investigated the feasibility of EAPap as a mechanical strain sensor.

  • A new three-dimensional thin shell element for the structure containing an integrated distributed piezoelectric sensor and actuator is proposed. A finite element formulation for the static response of the shell with piezoelectric sensor/actuator is derived. The assumed strain formulation and the bubble function improves the performance of the shell element. The verification through the calculation of the static response for the piezoelectic bimorph beam shows that the results agree with those from the theoretical analysis very well.
