  • For the successful forming of tailored blank, it is important to control the deformation of the stretch flange mode, which is strong1y dependent upon the location of weld line and blank shape. In order to investigate the effects of tailored blank design factors on the stretch flange forming, we made the model die which can simulate stretch flange mode. Taguchi method was employed to analyze the sensitivity of blank design factors for the forming of tailored blank. From the results of experiment S/N ratios were calculated and using Variance Analysis, significance of parameters and optimal condition of each factors were extracted. Based on these analyses, the weld line height and the strength ratio and the arc center height were selected as effective parameter. The analysed result was practically applied for Side outer panel stamping process.

  • The paper describes the vibration characteristics of the mechanical system consisting of a uniform cantilevered Timoshenko beam with a guided mass and an elastic spring supports. The free end of the beam does not rotate and the spring attatched to the guided mass is elastically restained against translation. The effect of magnitudes, rotary inertia and the size of the guided mass on the vibration characteristics is fully investigated by the numerical simulation using FEM and experiment. In order to verify the eigenvalue sensitivity for considered system, comparison exact solutions with FEM are conducted, and a good agreement between two solutions is also highlighted.

  • Glass fiber reinforced polymeric composites hold considerable promise for increased use in low cost high volume applications because of the potential for processing by solid phase forming. Unfortunately, because of the wide variety of such materials, inherent bariability in properties, and complex temperature and strain rate dependence, large strain behavior of these materials has not been well characterized. Of particular importance is failure during processing due to localized necking instability, and it is this phenomenon that is primary focus of this study. The strain rate and temperature dependence is used to predict limiting tensile strains, based on Mackinack imperfection theory. Excellent correlation was obtained between theory and experiment, and the results are summarized in the limit strains as a function of temperature and stain rate.

  • Micro force measurement is required more frequently for a precision manufacturing and investment in fields of precision industries such as semiconductor, chemistry and biology, and so forth. Null balance method has been introduced as an alternative of a loadcell. Loadcells have advantages in aspects of low cost and easy manufacturing, but have also the limitation in resolution and sensitivity to environment variations. In this paper, null balance method is explained and the dominant parameters related to system performances are mentioned. Null position sensor, electromagnetic system and controller are investigated. Also, the characteristic experiment is carried out in order to estimate the resolution and the measurement range. In order to overcome the limitation by the drift of position sensor and the performance of controller, double electromagnetic force compensation method is proposed and experimented. After controlling and filtering, the resolution under $\pm$ 1mg and measurement range over 300g could be obtained.

  • It was discovered that furamizole, one of the nitrofuran derivatives, possesses a strong antibacterial activity upon various organisms. Since then, a number of nitrofuran derivatives have been examined for antibacterial activity. This experiment was carried in vitro to evaluate with regard to antibacterial activity upon Mycoplasma gallisepticum. As a result, furamizole was found to be a good effective compound upon Mycoplasma gallisepticum. Furamizole inhibited the growths of the three strains of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and two strains of the same species at a concentration of $0.064{\mu}g/mI$. and $0.016{\mu}g/mI$. In short, there were not great differences in sensitivity to furamizole among the five strains tested.

  • Since in-core flux thimble tube wear the due to flow-induced vibration could degrade the integrity of nuclear reactor, the effective detection and interpretation of the wear is important. In order to establish an inspection technique for thimble tubes, an eddy current experiment was performed to determine the optimum test frequency, defect sensitivity and evaluation accuracy. Eddy current probes were designed and fabricated with a theory. Specimens with artificial defects were fabricated using electro discharge machining method. The results from inspection technique developed and on-site inspection showed good applicability.

  • In this paper, the corrosion fatigue crack propagation behavior of structure rolled steel (SWS 41C) was investigated by changing the thickness, and this experiment was done by the three point bending corrosion fatigue tester. The main results obtained are as follows: 1) As the thickness of specimen becomes thicker, the corrosion sensitivity to initial stage crack becomes some sensitive, and that the fatigue life becomes more sensitive. 2) The crack growth rate to initial stage crack (da/dN) was retarded as the thickness of specimen becomes thicker. But after initial stage crack, as the thickness of specimen is more thicker, da/dN is more rapid. 3) As the corrosion fatigue crack length grows, the accelerative factor of thick specimen (t=12mm) is more higher than that of thin specimen (t=6mm). 4) As the corrosion fatigue crack length grows, the corroson potential of both thick specimen and thin specimen becomes more less noble potential, however thick specimen (t=12mm) tends to more less noble potential than that of thin specimen(t=6mm).

  • This paper presents a procedure far design, modeling and analysis of a fine positioning stage. The stage considered here is composed of flexure hinges, piezoelectric actuators and their peripherals. Through a series of analysis, the structural analysis model is simplified as a rigid body(the moving part) and springs (the flexure hinges). An experimental design procedure is applied to determine optimum design variables for flexure hinges. The optimum variables are validated through a numerical test. A sensitivity analysis on the notch positions is also performed to obtain a guideline of fabrication accuracy for the stage.

  • The design of experiment(DOE) with orthogonal arrays is adopted when the engineering design is needed in a discrete design space. In this research, a design process with orthogonal array is peformed to obtain the optimum design which satisfy the frequency target of the steering system. The optimum design is determined from the analysis of means(ANOM) and sensitivity information about design variables is evaluated by the analysis of variance(ANOVA). Interactions between design variables are investigated to achieve additivity which should be valid in using orthogonal array. It is shown that when strong interactions exist, the DOE process with orthogonal array considering interaction is introduced to find out optimum design.

  • Diagnostics of plasma density is a key factor for monitoring plasma processing. Various probes are invented to measure plasma density and cut-off probe is a one of the most promising diagnostics tool for measuring plasma density. However, at the low density or high pressure the cut-off probe cannot clearly resolve the cut-off peak. Several reasons make this problem: Cut-off likes peaks caused by cavity resonances and weaken transmission spectrum signal at high pressure. Recently, You et al., have researched mechanism of cut-off probe and we improve the cut-off reliability and sensitivity base on that research. Modified cut-off antenna is adapted and bias cut-off probe method is tried. These experiment results have good agreement with the previous study and show good measurement characteristics.
