Validation of FDS for Fire in Underventilated Condition with Two rooms (환기가 제한된 두 개 격실 화재에서 FDS 검증분석)

  • Fire model shall be verified and validated to reliably show the predictive capabilities for a specific use. In the process of model verification and validation, both the acceptable uses and limitation of fire model are established. In this study, the results of FDS simulation are compared with the data of PRISME experiment such as temperature, heat release rate, heat flux, product concentrations in the under-ventilated two-room condition. Furthermore, the sensitivity of FDS under ventilation condition changes are evaluated. FDS provide the reliable prediction for under-ventilated two-room fire scenario with slightly deviation.

  • This paper presents study of effects of cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut on the surface roughness in hard turning. Taguchi Method and linear regression model of design parameters were utilized to identify the controlling process parameters that can monitor the surface roughness in the hard turning operation. In the process optimization, experimental planning was performed using the orthogonal array and concept of the signal-to-noise ratio. Cutting parameters such as speed, feed rate, and depth of cut were selected as process parameters and the ANOVA analysis showed that feed rate and cutting speed had more effect on the roughness variation that depth of cut.

  • Fault detection was carried out in a etcher of capacitive coupled plasma with OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy) and impedance by VI probe that are widely used for process control and monitoring at semiconductor industry. The experiment was operated at conventional Ar and Fluorocarbon plasma with variable change such as pressure and addition of N2 and O2 to assume atmospheric leak, RF power and pressure that are highly possible to impact wafer yield during wafer process, in order to observe OES and VI Probe signals. The sensitivity change on OES and Impedance by VI probe was analyzed by statistical method including PCA to determine healthy of process. The main goal of this study is to find feasibility and limitation of OES and Impedances for fault detection by shift of plasma characteristics and to enhance capability of fault detection using PCA.

  • This paper presents fabrication process and experimental results of two different types of flexible MEMS biosensors based on polymer/metal multilayer processing techniques. One type of a biosensor is a microelectrode array (MEA) for nerve signal monitoring through implanting the MEA into a living body, and another is a tactile sensor capable of being mounted on an arbitrary-shaped surface. The microelectrode array was fabricated and its electrical characteristics have been examined through in vivo and in vitro experiment. For sensitive skin, flexible tactile sensor array was fabricated and its sensitivity has been analyzed. Mechanical flexibility of these biosensors has been achieved by using a polymer, and it is verified by implanting a MEA to an animal and mounting the tactile sensor on an arbitrary-shaped surface.

Features of an Error Correction Memory to Enhance Technical Texts Authoring in LELIE

  • In this paper, we investigate the notion of error correction memory applied to technical texts. The main purpose is to introduce flexibility and context sensitivity in the detection and the correction of errors related to Constrained Natural Language (CNL) principles. This is realized by enhancing error detection paired with relatively generic correction patterns and contextual correction recommendations. Patterns are induced from previous corrections made by technical writers for a given type of text. The impact of such an error correction memory is also investigated from the point of view of the technical writer's cognitive activity. The notion of error correction memory is developed within the framework of the LELIE project an experiment is carried out on the case of fuzzy lexical items and negation, which are both major problems in technical writing. Language processing and knowledge representation aspects are developed together with evaluation directions.

  • Speed and position sensors require the additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of motor. Various control algorithms have been proposed for the elimination of speed senor. This paper investigates a novel speed sensorless control of induction motor. The proposed control strategy is based on MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) using state observer as a reference model for flux estimation. This algorithm may overcome several shortages of conventional MRAS: integrator problems, small EMF at low speed and relatively large sensitivity to resistance variation. The proposed algorithm is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • General vehicle is evaluated by its acceleration, fuel economy, NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) and subjective (such as launching feel) performance. The first step to enhance its performance is to know how much each component affects on the vehicle performance. It is very important to know what is the key factor of the component among many specifications. Hydraulic torque converter can be expressed by means of its performance curve (torque ratio and capacity factor). In this paper, the key factor of torque converter, which affect vehicle performance, are explored by using Taguchi method. Moreover, general sensitivity analysis method is compared with Taguchi's experiment.

  • This paper introduces the experimental results of ride values assessed for several passenger cars. The experiment was conducted at four vehicles on two roads for three persons by measuring the acceleration in the 12-axis of human. The results include the comparison of the ride values, such as the component ride values, overall ride value, and seat effective amplitude transmissibiity. It is proved that acceleration between 1 and 15Hz is the most significant in evaluating the ride quality. The contribution of the acceleration in each measurement axis is quantified from the component ride value. SEAT value shows a relatively low sensitivity for the road condition and human mass.

  • Calonectria pseudonaviculata and C. henricotiae are two closely related fungal species responsible for boxwood blight disease of ornamental shrubs (Buxus spp.) in the U.S. and Europe. A previous study has shown isolates of the latter species, which is restricted to Europe, to be less sensitive to tetraconazole, an azole fungicide. In this study, we have analyzed the CYP51 paralogs for polymorphism in 26 genomes, representing geographically disparate populations of C. pseudonaviculata (n = 19) and C. henricotiae (n = 7), from the U.S., Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. The presence of a CYP51A pseudogene and lack of a functional CYP51A paralog in all C. pseudonaviculata genomes examined is a novel discovery for fungi and could have implications for the evolution of resistance to antifungal chemicals.

  • Thermal environment of greenhouse was investigated by thermo-tracer in this study. The Thermo-tracer is a high-sensitivity infrared thermometer of non-contact type. The infrared energy emitted from the measured object is converted into an electrical signal by the detector(HgCdTe) and display as a color or black & white thermal image by way of optical scanning, The experiment was conducted for Venlo-type greenhouse with pad & fan system. The temperature difference between measured by Thermo-trace and measured by HOBO sensor is maximum 0.8$^{\circ}C$. Thermo-trace is possible to use for the thermal environment analysis and diagnosis of a cooling and heating system of greenhouse.
