  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the mentoring function and mentor trust on the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program, focusing on university students in fashion related departments. To achieve the purpose, research was conducted through a survey questionnaire. The questionnaire data from 223 university students in fashion related departments who experienced mentoring programs were analyzed. SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 7.0 statistical packages were used to investigate a structural model and test research hypotheses. The results derived from the analysis of the questionnaire survey were summarized as follows. First, the result showed that the mentoring function was composed of three factors: a sensitivity developmental function, psychosocial function, and fashion career developmental function. Second, the sensitivity developmental function, psychosocial function, and fashion career developmental function positively affected mentor trust. Third, the sensitivity developmental function positively affected the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program, while the psychosocial function and fashion career developmental function did not influence the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program. Fourth, mentor trust positively influenced the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program. The results of the current study would be useful for the professor and university administrator who would like to establish a mentoring program in a fashion related department, by exploring the relation of mentoring function, mentor trust and the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program.

  • This study examines the influence of mentoring function on major adaptation of university students in a fashion related department and identifies the moderating role of self-efficacy and mentor competence on the effectiveness of a fashion mentoring function. Questionnaire data were gathered from 266 university students in a fashion related department with previous experience in a mentoring program. The results showed that the psychosocial function, sensitivity developmental function, and the fashion career developmental function had a positive impact on the department adaptation (adaptation for professor and adaptation for learning). In addition, there were moderating effects of self-efficacy on the influence of the fashion career developmental function on professor adaptation and the moderating effects of mentor competence on the influence of the sensitivity developmental function on professor adaptation. The results of this study provide various guidelines for professors or administrators of fashion related departments who are interested in mentoring systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the connectional structure of mentoring perceived by the 2-year college students who are majoring in fashion, and to develop the scale with which the mentoring effect can be measured on the basis of the results. To achieve the purpose, research was conducted through a survey questionnaire. The research was carried out obtaining data from the 2-year college students. Responses from this questionnaire were gathered from 265 students. The questionnaire was made with 31 mentoring scales and removed inadequate 18 questions for statistics analysis. The remaining questionnaires consisting of 13 questions were categorized into three factors. The first factor (5questions) relates to the sensitivity developmental function. The second factor (5questions) pertains to the psychosocial function and the third factor (3questions) was for the fashion career developmental function. The results derived from the analysis of the questionnaire survey are as follows: First, the role model function is not enticing enough for the student to continue role model or professor for future student. The students are more interested into discovering their own capability in fashion by entering a fashion company. Second, the result of this study was confirmed through descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Third, the results of this study can be a guide-line for professors to help student to which is fashion in spite of outside comment and own future career task.

  • In this study of 79 3- and 4-year-old children, behavioral inhibition was assessed by their preschool teachers; mother-child attachment was assessed by the researchers in home visits; and mothers reported on their parenting and their child's emotionality at 6-12 months of age. Findings were that insecure attachment was related to high child's distress reactions to limitations (negative emotionality) in early infancy and to strong maternal rejection/hostility. Higher maternal sensitivity to child's inhibition was related to more secure attachment. Girls were more highly inhibited than boys. Smiling and laughter (positive emotionality) in early infancy was negatively related to child's inhibited behavior. Maternal sensitivity to child inhibition was positively related to child's inhibited behavior. Findings are consistent with Engfer's (1993) theory of gender differences in developmental paths into behavioral inhibition.

  • The N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-mediated glutamatergic neurotransmission is involved in synaptic plasticity, developmental processes, learning and memory and many neuropathological disorders including age-related diseases. In the present study, regulation of the NMDA receptor properties by various ligands was investigated using $[^3H]MK-801$ binding studies in the synaptic membranes of young and aged rat forebrains. The binding in the presence of glutamate and glycine increased dramatically with growth between 1 and 6 weeks old, and thereafter declined gradually with aging. Glutamate, glycine or spermine respectively increased the binding with growth. Glutamate maintained the binding during aging, while glycine or spermine significantly decreased the binding in the aged brain. The maximum stimulation by glycine varied depending on the ages of brains. Greater sensitivity to glycine was observed at 1 week and 3 months and the sensitivity was significantly reduced in the aged brain. In contrast, spermine showed similar stimulation patterns in young and aged rats. These results indicated that the functional properties of the NMDA receptor-ion channel complex in young and aged rat forebrains are differentially regulated by agonists, and the reduction of the receptor function with normal aging may be, in some degree, due to the reduction of the receptor sensitivity to glycine.

  • Patterning of the polar axis during the early leaf developmental stage is established by cell-to-cell communication between the shoot apical meristem (SAM) and the leaf primordia. In a previous study, we showed that the DRL1 gene, which encodes a homolog of the Elongator-associated protein KTI12 of yeast, acts as a positive regulator of adaxial leaf patterning and shoot meristem activity. To determine the evolutionally conserved functions of DRL1, we performed a comparison of the deduced amino acid sequence of DRL1 and its yeast homolog, KTI12, and found that while overall homology was low, well-conserved domains were presented. DRL1 contained two conserved plant-specific domains. Expression of the DRL1 gene in a yeast KTI12-deficient yeast mutant suppressed the growth retardation phenotype, but did not rescue the caffeine sensitivity, indicating that the role of Arabidopsis Elongator-associated protein is partially conserved with yeast KTI12, but may have changed between yeast and plants in response to caffeine during the course of evolution. In addition, elevated expression of DRL1 gene triggered zymocin sensitivity, while overexpression of KTI12 maintained zymocin resistance, indicating that the function of Arabidopsis DRL1 may not overlap with yeast KTI12 with regards to toxin sensitivity. In this study, expression analysis showed that class-I KNOX genes were downregulated in the shoot apex, and that YAB and KAN were upregulated in leaves of the Arabidopsis drl1- 101 mutant. Our results provide insight into the communication network between the SAM and leaf primordia required for the establishment of leaf polarity by mediating histone acetylation or through other mechanisms.

  • Importance of behavior factors or environmental factors in visual organization and visual function of fish is treated with great care in visual ecology, and there is no study about initial ocular growth and development on the dark banded rockfish, Sebastes inermis. Thus, this study was performed. The total length, head length, head depth, eye diameter and lens diameter of the dark banded rockfish showed positive allometric relationship between parturition stage and 60 days post-parturition (dpp). The increase in total length relative to head length and head depth, head length growth relative to eye diameter and lens diameter, and head depth growth relative to eye and lens diameter were nearly isometric. The eyes were formed completely at parturtion stage. At this age, the eye has an optic nerve fiber layer, a ganglion cell layer, an inner plexiform layer, an inner nuclear layer, an outer plexiform layer, an outer nuclear layer, an outer limiting membrane, a rod and cone layer and an epithelial layer. Thickness of retina at 60 dpp was higher than that of at parturition stage. During this experiment, the proportion of the rod and cone layer, outer nuclear layer, and optic nerve fiber layer of retina were significantly increased, while the proportion of the outer plexiform layer, inner nuclear layer and ganglion cell layer of retina were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The essential demands that must be met by the retina in this species pertain to light sensitivity and spatial resolution.

  • In plants, calcium ($Ca^{2+}$)-dependent protein kinases (CDPKs) are important sensors of $Ca^{2+}$ signals. Previous research demonstrated the expression of the OsCPK11 gene in various tissues at the transcription level, but its developmental and biochemical functions at the protein level were not determined. This study was aimed to identify biochemical characteristics of OsCPK11. GST- OsCPK11 was expressed in E. coli and used for an in vitro kinase assay. Biochemical analyses identified OsCPK11 as a CDPK. OsCPK11 autophosphorylated itself and transphosphorylated histone III-s and MBP as substrates in the presence of $Ca^{2+}$. The activity of the recombinant OsCPK11 was influenced by $Mg^{2+}$, with optimum activity detected at pH 7.0-7.5. OsCPK11 activity was not affected by $Mg^{2+}$, $Mn^{2+}$, or $Na^+$ in the presence of a high level of $Ca^{2+}$. Autophosphorylation of OsCPK11 decreased $Ca^{2+}$ sensitivity of OsCPK11. An anti-OsCPK11 rabbit antibody recognized 95.5 kD of GST-OsCPK11, as shown by an immunoblot analysis. These results shed light on the function of OsCPK11 in $Ca^{2+}$-mediated signaling in rice.

  • Cullin4-RING ubiquitin ligase (CRL4) is a family of multi-subunit E3 ligases. To investigate the possible involvement of CRL4 in heat stress response, we screened T-DNA insertion mutants of putative CRL4 substrate receptors that exhibited altered patterns in response to heat stress. One of the mutants exhibited heat stress tolerance and was named heat stress tolerant DWD1 (htd1). Introduction of HTD1 gene into htd1-1 led to recovery of heat sensitivity to the wild type level, confirming that the decrease of HTD1 transcripts resulted in heat tolerance. Therefore, HTD1 plays a negative role in thermotolerance in Arabidopsis. Additionally, HTD1 directly interacted with DDB1a in yeast two-hybrid assays and associated with DDB1b in vivo, supporting that it could be a part of a CRL4 complex. Various heat-inducible genes such as HSP14.7, HSP21, At2g03020 and WRKY28 were hyper-induced in htd1-1, indicating that HTD1 could function as a negative regulator for the expression of such genes and that these genes might contribute to thermotolerance of htd1-1, at least in part. HTD1 was associated with HSP90-1, a crucial regulator of thermotolerance, in vivo, even though the decrease of HTD1 did not affect the accumulation pattern of HSP90-1 in Arabidopsis. These findings indicate that a negative role of HTD1 in thermotolerance might be achieved through its association with HSP90-1, possibly by disturbing the action of HSP90-1, not by the degradation of HSP90-1. This study will serve as an important step toward understanding of the functional connection between CRL4-mediated processes and plant heat stress signaling.
