Many mobile sensing frameworks have been developed to help researcher doing their mobile sensing research. However, energy consumption is still an issue in the mobile sensing research, and the existing frameworks do not provide enough solution for solving the issue. We have surveyed several mobile sensing frameworks and carefully chose one framework to improve. We have designed an adaptive sampling module for a mobile sensing framework to help solve the energy consumption issue. However, in this study, we limit our design to an adaptive sampling module for the location and motion sensors. In our adaptive sampling module, we utilize the significant motion sensor to help the adaptive sampling. We experimented with two sampling strategies that utilized the significant motion sensor to achieve low-power consumption during the continuous sampling. The first strategy is to utilize the sensor naively only while the second one is to add the duty cycle to the naive approach. We show that both strategies achieve low energy consumption, but the one that is combined with the duty cycle achieves better result.

In spectrum sensing, an energy detector compares the energy of a received signal with a predetermined detection threshold and decides whether a primary user is active or not in a licensed frequency band. Here the detection threshold is related to the noise power level in the band. Most previous works on energy detection have assumed that the noise power is exactly known a priori. However, this assumption does not hold in practice since there may be some uncertainty about the noise power. So it is necessary to investigate its effects on the performance of energy detection for spectrum sensing. In this paper, we analyze the effects using the residue theorem for contour integral and present the associated numerical results.
An extensive investigation of photon interaction properties has been made for $Zn_xTe_{100-x}$ alloys (where x = 5, 20, 30, 40, 50) to explore its possible use in sensing and shielding gamma radiations. The results show better and stable response of ZnTe alloys for various photon interaction properties over the wide energy range, with an additional benefit of ease in fabrication due to lower melting points of Zn and Te. Mass attenuation coefficient values show strong dependence on photon energy as well as composition. Effective atomic number has maximum value for $Zn_5Te_{95}$ and lowest for $Zn_{50}Te_{50}$ in the entire energy region. The alloy sample with maximum $Z_{eff}$ shows minimal value of $N_e$ and vice versa. Mean free path follows inverse trend as observed for mass attenuation coefficient. The exposure and energy absorption buildup factors depend upon photon energy, penetration thickness and composition (effective atomic number) of $Zn_xTe_{100-x}$ alloys. It finds its application for sensing and shielding from highly energetic and highly penetrating photons at sites where radioactive materials were used and visibility of material is not a big constraint. Further, energy down conversion property of ZnTe alloys with subsequent emission in green band suggests its potential use in sensing gamma photons.
The spectrum sensing is important for decision of using frequency band. It checks the frequency band for cognitive radio system. In this paper, we apply autocorrelation function to the energy detection method. We use the autocorrelation function to improve the performance of spectrum sensing method based on the energy detection method. This method is different from cyclostationary process method where parameters such as the mean or the autocorrelation function are time-varying periodically. And we propose improved method that is robust in poor radio environment. If the proposed method applies for sensing in the cognitive radio system, it will have the structural simplicity and the fast computation of spectrum sensing.

In this paper, we propose a Sensing Resolution-based Grouping(SRG) protocol for wireless sensor networks. SRG is intended for meeting the application's sensing objectives, where sensor nodes are densely deployed and have the determinate accuracy requirement. The primary contribution of this paper is active group header node selection and round-robin procedure, which increase the sensing accuracy and evenly distribute the node energy consumption. The second contribution is use of energy efficient intermediate node selection by considering group size and energy consumption. We present the design principle of SRG and provide simulation results.
Efficient energy management becomes a critical design issue for complex WSN (Wireless Sensor Network). Most of complex WSN employ the sleep mode to reduce the energy dissipation. However, it should cause the reduction of sensing coverage. This paper presents new wake-up algorithm for reducing energy consumption in complex WSN. The proposed wake-up algorithm is devised using geometric probability. It determined which node will be waked-up among the nodes having overlapped sensing coverage. The only one sensor node will be waked-up and it is ready to sense the event occurred uniformly. The simulation results show that the lifetime is increased by 15% and the sensing coverage is increased by 20% compared to the other scheduling methods. Consequently, the proposed wake-up algorithm can eliminate the power dissipation in the overlapped sensing coverage. Thus, it can be applicable for the various WSN suffering from the limited power supply.

Cognitive Radio is an intelligent interference avoidance idle spectrum communication system for your environment and actively determine the frequency bandwidth recycling by sharing the spectrum in a way that maximizes the efficiency of radio resource technology. At this time, this does not cause interference to the PU spectrum sensing technology is important. If you can choose, depending on the state of the channel spectrum sensing algorithm will be more efficient sensing. Matched filter detection system model that reflects the individual sensing through a fuzzy controller in this paper, energy detection and self-correlation detection are proposed and analyzed.

Spectrum sensing is an integral part of cognitive radio, which seeks to address the perceived spectrum scarcity that is caused by inefficient utilization of the available spectrum. In this paper, a spectrum sensing system using energy detection for analog TV and FM broadcast transmitters as well as modified Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial (ISDB-T) signals is implemented on a software-defined radio platform using GNU' Not Unix (GNU) radio and the N200 Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP). Real-time implementation and experimental tests were conducted in Metro Cebu, a highly urbanized area in the southern part of the Philippines. Extensive tests and measurements were necessary to determine spectrum availability, particularly in the TV band. This is in support of the Philippine government' efforts to provide internet connectivity to rural areas. Experimental results have so far met IEEE 802.22 requirements for energy detection spectrum sensing. The designed system detected signals at -114 dBm within a sensing time of 100 ms. Furthermore, the required $P_d({\geq}90)$ and $P_{fa}({\leq}10)$ of the standard were also achieved with different thresholds for various signal sources representing primary users.

In this paper, a new spectrum sensing method based on energy detection is proposed and analyzed in a cognitive radio(CR) system. We employ a delay diversity receiver for sensing the primary user's spectrum with reasonable cost and complexity. Conventional CR with the receiver equipping multiple antennas requires additional hardware and space for installing multiple antennas in accordance with increase in the number of antennas. If the number of antennas increases, detection probability as well as hardware complexity and cost rise. Then, it is difficult to make a primary user detector practically. Therefore, we adopt a delay diversity receiver for solving problems of the conventional spectrum detector utilizing multiple antennas. We derive analytical expressions for the spectrum sensing performance of the proposed system. From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that the primary user detector with the delay diversity receiver has almost half the complexity and shows similar or improved performance as compared with that employing multiple antennas. Therefore, the proposed spectrum sensing structure can be a practical solution for enhancing the detection capacity in CR system operations. The results of this paper can be applied to legacy CR systems with simple modifications.
Recently, many frequency sharing technology including CR (Cognitive Radio) technology have been studied actively because of frequency scarcity. For implementing CR systems, spectrum sensing technology plays key role. In IEEE 802.22 WRAN, the first standard aimed at Internet service in a TV channel with CR technology. This paper explained the various spectrum sensing schemes detecting narrowband ATSC signal in the IEEE 802.22 such as Energy detector, Spectral Correlation Sensing scheme, Covariance based Sensing algorithm and analyzed in terms of the probability of misdetection when the probability of false alarm is 10%. Based on simulation results, this paper proposed a duplex sensing scheme based on Energy detector and analyzed the capability of the proposed sensing scheme comparing with each sensing scheme.
