  • In this paper, a numerical model to analyze the performance of a vertical slit-type wave absorber is developed under the assumption of inviscid water waves. The formulation combines the linear potential theory with a semi-empirical description of the eddy-shedding at a slit-type wave absorber. We investigated the reflection coefficients over a wide frequency range for a vertical slit-type wave absorber both with and without a solid rear wall. Model test was conducted at KRISO' s two dimensional wave tank to validate the theoretical results. It is found that the agreement between theoretical results and experimental data is surprisingly good. We found that the wave absorbing system using a vertical slit plate has sufficient potentials for breakwaters for ocean development.

  • In this paper, spatial decay estimates for the time dependent compressible viscous isentropic flow in a semi-infinite three dimensional pipe are derived. An upper bound for the total energy in terms of the initial boundary data is obtained as well. The results established in this paper may be viewed as a version of Saint-Venant's principle in transient compressible Navier-Stokes flow.

  • Temperature difference between two plates occurs when a current is passed though two semi-conductors that are connected each other at two junctions. The current drives a transfer of heat from one junction to the other. In this study, the thermoelectric module based on th "Peltier effect" was made by combing fullerene and polyaniline. Continuous temperature measurements on both surfaces were performed at room temperature($25.4^{\circ}C$) by an infrared non-contact thermometer. The results showed that cool ing effect of $2.2^{\circ}C$ was attained by 30 seconds, after which the effect was continuously vanished mainly due to electro decomposition.

  • Passengers in automobile or train are exposed to a worse noise environment when they are in the tunnel than in the open field. This is due to a relatively higher space density of sound energy by multiple reflection phenomenon of noise generated by operation of transportation vehicles from tunnel wall compared to open field. In this study, noise characteristics of subway train running through a tunnel were investigated at straight/curved track and tunnel type(semi circular/box). Also the noise measured simultaneously at inner and outer sides of train running through a tunnel, so that the coherence of the various noise sources of subway train to inner noise was evaluated.

  • Structure H formation experiments were conducted in a semi-batch stirred vessel using methane as the small guest substance and neohexane(NH), tert-butylmethylether(TBME) and methylcyclohexane(MCH) as the large molecule guest substance (LMGS). The results indicate that the rates of gas uptake and induction times are generally dependent on the magnitude of the driving force. When tert-butyl methyl ether is used as the LMGS rapid hydrate formation, much smaller induct ion time and rapid decomposition can be achieved. Liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for the above LMGS with water have been measured under atmospheric pressure at 275.5, 283.15K, and 298.15K. It was found that TBME is the most water soluble followed by NM and MCH. The solubility of water in the non-aqueous liquid was found to increase in the following order: MCH

  • The surface properties such as energy gap, exciton, shallow trap level, deep trap level, type inversion with annealing and metastable state of $EL_2$ level of SI GaAs wafers and the conductivity distribution of 2 inch Cr doped GaAs wafer were investigated using nondestructive TAV(transverse acoustoelectric voltage) technique. The TAV is generated when SAW and semiconductor interact. We also have tried newly SAW oscillator technique to investigate the surface properties of semiconductor wafers and we have shown the validity of this technique.

  • Single crystal $AgGaSe_2$ layers were grown on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate at $420^{\circ}C$ with hot wall epitaxy (HWE) system by evaporating $AgGaSe_2$ source at $630^{\circ}C$. The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXD). The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $AgGaSe_2$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g(T)=19501 eV-(879{\times}10^{-4} eV/K)T^2/(T+250 K)$.

  • To establish optimum cycle of the inverter-driven heat pump with a variation of frequency, the bypass orifice, which was a short tube haying a bypass hole in the middle, was designed and tested. Flow characteristics of the bypass orifice were measured as a function of orifice geometry and operating conditions. Flow trends with respect to frequency were compared with those of short tube orifices and capillary tubes. Generally, the bypass orifice showed the best flow trends among them. and it would enhance the seasonal energy efficiency ratio of an inverter heat pump system, Based on experimental data, a semi-empirical flow model was developed to predict mass flow rate through bypass orifices. The maximum difference between measured data and model`s prediction was within $\pm$5%.

  • We measured photoreflectance spectrum characteristics of InGaAs grown by MBE method on semi-insulating GaAs. The PR signal splitting of substate and epilayer was observed. The band gap energy was about 1.40 eV. It make to 8 meV difference when it is fitted by Pan's equation. The reason is stress on the interface, which is due to lattice mismatch between epilayer and substate . We became to know that reason influence crystalline on growing sample. In InGaAs epilayer, temperature dependency is low. The efficiency of photo absorption is high and activate over 200K. In this case when it is annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ below growing temperature, PR signal splitting is remarkable and crystalline is inhanced.

  • Observations in beach, intertidal and upper subtidal environments in Peter the Great Bay (north-western East Sea) have shown that attached algae were found on empty shells of 13 species of epifaunal and infaunal bivalve mollusks. Thirteen algae species were identified on empty dislodged shells but more than 50 species are known to be epibiotic on living bivalves. The dislodgement of shells with attached algae takes place in semi-enclosed, low-energy areas, as well as those which are open and affected by strong wave action, indicating the large scale of this phenomenon. The significance of seaweed transportation of living mollusks and their empty shells in the coastal zone, involving both taphonomic and ecological processes, is stressed. Algae appear to be a taphonomic agent and play a similar role as compared to birds or hermit crabs, but they act passively and contribute to environmental mixing in death assemblages in coastal environments.
