The Effects of Multi-identity on One's Psychological State and the Quality of Contribution in Virtual Communities: A Socio-Psychological Perspective

  • In a virtual community, one can possess multiple identities and pretend to be different by creating self-identity in contrast with his or her actual self. Does false identity undermine the qualitative growth of a virtual community by reducing members' accountability? Or does it stimulate their contributive behaviors by ensuring freedom of speech? It is imperative to understand the effects of multi-identity considering the distinct properties of a virtual community in which people easily change their identities at little or no cost. To answer these questions, we adopted the concept of self-discrepancy from the social psychology theory rooted in the concept of the self and developed a theoretical model to predict quality of contribution of the individual member in virtual communities. Based on the self-discrepancy theory, we first identified two different domains of the self: (1) an "actual self" that consists of attributes that the person believes he or she currently possesses in real life and (2) a "cyber self" that consists of attributes the person believes he or she possesses in a virtual community. Next, we derived an index for two different types of self-discrepancy by using the differences between the actual and the cyber identities: Personal Self-discrepancy and Social Self-discrepancy. Personal Self-discrepancy reflects the degree of discrepancy between actual and cyber identity regarding a person's intelligence, education, and expertise. Social Self-discrepancy reflects the degree of discrepancy between actual and cyber identity regarding a person's morality, sociability, and accordance with social norms. Finally, we linked them with sense of virtual community, perceived privacy rights, and quality of contribution to examine how having a multi-identity influences an individual's psychological state and contributive behaviors in a virtual community. The results of the analysis based on 266 respondents showed that Social Self-discrepancy negatively influenced both the Sense of Virtual Community and Perceived Privacy Rights, while Personal Self-discrepancy negatively influenced only Perceived Privacy Rights, thereby resulting in reduced quality of contribution in virtual communities. Based on the results of this analysis, we can explain the dysfunctions of multi-identity in virtual communities. First, people who pretend to be different by engaging in socially undesirable behaviors under their alternative identities are more likely to suffer lower levels of psychological wellbeing and thus experience lower levels of sense of virtual community than others. Second, people do not perceive a high level of privacy rights reflecting catharsis, recovery, or autonomy, even though they create different selves and engage in socially undesirable behaviors in a virtual community. Third, people who pretend to be different persons in terms of their intelligence, education, or expertise also indirectly debase the quality of contribution by decreasing perceived privacy rights. The results suggest that virtual community managers should pay more attention to the negative influences exercised by multi-identity on the quality of contribution, thereby controlling the need to create alternative identities in virtual communities. We hope that more research will be conducted on this underexplored area of multi-identity and that our theoretical framework will serve as a useful conceptual tool for all endeavors.

노인의 자원봉사활동 참여 동기가 자기확장성에 미치는 영향: 자기효능감의 매개효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Senior Citizens' Motivation to Participate in Volunteer Activities on Self-Expansion: Based on the Median Effect of Self-Effect)

  • 본 연구는 노인 자원봉사활동의 성과를 성공적 노화나 생산적 노화가 아닌 노인의 자기효능감과 자기확장성의 관점에서 연구하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 노년기에 일어날 수 있는 내적성장과 자가의 확장을 검증 할 수 있으며, 노년기 삶을 재조명하는 계기를 마련하는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 검증하기 위하여 부산광역시의 시청 및 구청에서 진행하는 자원봉사활동에 참여한 노인 300명을 연구대상으로 하여, 2018년 9월부터 11월까지 약 3개월에 걸쳐 설문지를 배부하여 불성실하게 응답되었다고 판단된 34부의 설문지를 제외한 후 266부의 자료를 본 연구에 사용하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인의 자원봉사활동참여 동기(가치기능, 사회기능, 이해기능)는 자기효능감에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자원봉사활동참여 동기(가치기능, 사회기능, 이해기능)는 자기확장성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 노인의 자기효능감(자기조절 효능감, 자신감)은 자기확장성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 자기효능감((자기조절 효능감, 자신감)은 노인의 자원봉사활동 참여동기와 자기확장성의 관계에서 매개효과가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 노인의 자원봉사활동 참여동기가 자기효능감과 자기확장성에 영향을 미친다는 관련성을 규명 하였다. 특히, 노인에게 심리사회적 개념인 자기효능감의 매개변수를 활용하여, 노인복지의연구의 새로운 관점을 제공함으로써 향후 노인의 자원봉사활동 활성화를 위한 실천적, 정책적 방안을 제시하였다는데 연구의 의의가 있다.

자전고온연소합성법에 의한 MgO-Al 스피넬 제조 및 열역학적 고찰 (Preparation and thermodynamics consideration of MgO-Al spinel by self-propagation high- temperature synthesis)

  • MgO와 Al 분말을 자전고온연소합성법으로 $MgAl_2O_4$ 스피넬 상을 합성하였다. MgO 와 Al을 테르밋 반응으로 생성하였으며, 가열반응생성으로 $800^{\circ}C$ 예열온도에서 반응시켰다. DTA/TG, 합성생성물, 최고온도 공정조건에 대해 연구하였고, MgO와 Al은 MgO+2Al+ 3/$2O_3$ $\rightarrow$ $MgAl_2O_4$ 로 합성되었다. 미반응된 재료로부터 MgAl2O4 스피넬의 활성화 에너지는 -264.8kcal/mol의 발생열량과 5634K의 최고 반응온도로 계산되었다. 테르밋 반응후의 시험편의 체적느 6% 증가하였다.

잠재성장모형을 활용한 청소년 전환기 내면화 및 외현화 문제행동과 관련변인에 관한 연구 (A Study on Adolescents' Internalizing and Externalizing Problem Behaviors and Related Variables in Transition with Latent Growth Model)

  • This study investigated how variables of internalizing and externalizing problematic behaviors change according to gender and as time passes by and how the variables influence adolescent problematic behaviors. The variables selected for the analysis are personal variables, parent variables, peer and school variables, and community variables. longitudinal data collected for 4 years from the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS) were utilized for the analysis. Data were collected initially from 2,707 fifth grade elementary students in 2005 and they were traced until 2008. The final respondents were 2,448 students. The findings are as follows. Frist, the statistical significance was found in changes of problematic behavioral variables in terms of the gender difference. Second, variables, such as self-esteem and self-control are negatively correlated to the problematic behaviors and stress level is strongly positively correlated to the behaviors. Third, the study pressure and peer attachment level are correlated to the initial value of internalizing problematic behaviors. In conclusion, given that more statistical significances were found at initial values than the change rates among variables, early intervention is important in addressing adolescent problematic behaviors.

Sulfur에 의하여 치환된 ZnTe 단결정 박막의 광발광 특성 (Photoluminescence characteristics of ZnTe single crystal thin films substi-tuted by sulfur)

  • 본 연구에서는 ZnTe에 S 원자를 소량 첨가한 ZnTe : S 단결정 박막이 열적적층법에 의하여 GaAs(100) 기판 위에 성장되었다. S 원자에 의한 효과를 알기 위하여 ZnTe : S 단결정 박막의 광발광 특성을 조사하였다. 저온 광발광 스펙트럼에서 등전자적 중심(isoelectronic center)으로 보이는 2.339 eV의 피크가 관측되었고, ZnTe 단결정 박막의 광발광 스펙트럼에서 근원을 알 수 없었던 발광 스펙트럼은 관측되지 않았다. 온도에 따른 가벼운 양공 자유 엑시톤의 세기 변화는 외부자기포획(extrinsic self-trapping)으로 설명하였다. 그리고 상온에서 에너지 띠간격 흡수단 근처의 발광선이 관측되었다.

직장 외 교육훈련을 통한 신입 간호사의 팀 정신 경험 (Team-Spirit Experiences for New Nurses through off-the Job Training)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the experiences of Team-Spirit training in new nurses. Method: Data was collected through open-ended and self-reported questionnaires which were received from 47 new nurses who had finished team-spirit training for 2 days. The content analysis method was used to derive the core-category, categories and concepts of Team-Spirit training for new nurses. Result: The care category identified in new nurses trained in Team-Spirit was upgrade myself and our team. The following 4 categories also emerged; companion, interdependency, importance of community, and future growth of myself and our community. The derived 12 subcategories were intimacy, importance of companions, binding, partaking in difficulties, empowerment, observing rules, cooperation, consensus, self-pledge as a subordinator, motivating vision formation, developing professionalism, contribution and devotion. The 34 concepts were derived from the new nurses' statements. Conclusion: These results imply that Team-Spirit Training for nurses could contribute to companionship, interdependency, importance of community, and future growth of oneself and the hospital team.

부산 동리어촌계 개량조개, Mactra chinensis의 자원생태학적 연구 (A Population ecological study of the hen clam(Mactra chinensis) in the Dong-li self-regulatory community of Busan)

  • This study was performed to estimate biomass and to provide management plan through population ecological characteristics, including growth parameters, survival rate, instantaneous coefficient of natural and fishing mortalities, and age at first capture of hen clam, Mactra chinensis, in the Dong-li self-regulatory community of Busan. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated from a non-linear regression were $SH_{\infty}=86.24mm$, K=0.12/year, and = -1.37year. Survival rate(s) of the hen clam was 0.515. The instantaneous coefficients of natural mortality(M) was estimated to be 0.232/year and fishing mortality(F) 0.432/year for hen clam. The current biomass of the hen clam in the study area was estimated to be 713mt and the acceptable biological catch(ABC) was estimated under various harvest strategies based on $F_{0.1}$ and $F_{40%}$.

Diagnosis and Management of Ménétrier Disease in Children: A Case Series Review

  • Purpose: Ménétrier disease (MD) was first described in 1888, and 50 cases have been reported until now. We aimed to discuss the etiology, diagnostics, and management of MD in children. Methods: We searched for case reports published from 2014 till 2019 in English using PubMed. Articles were selected using subject headings and key words of interest to the topic. Interesting references of the included articles were also included. Results: The pathophysiology of MD is still uncertain. However, overexpression of transforming growth factor alpha with transformation of the gastric mucosa has been observed, which may be mediated by genetics and provoked by an infectious trigger. Clinically, MD is diagnosed by abdominal pain, vomiting, anorexia, and edema secondary to hypoalbuminemia. A gastroscopy with biopsy is the gold standard for the diagnosis of MD. In children, the disease is self-limiting and only requires supportive treatment. In general, children have a good prognosis and recover spontaneously within a few weeks. Conclusion: Few pediatric cases of MD have been described in recent years, and with all different etiology. Endoscopy with biopsy remains the golden standard for the diagnosis of MD, and in children, the disease is self-limiting.

치과위생사의 이직관련 요인 (Relative factors intent to leave for dental hygienists)

  • Objectives : This study was to find out the status of job satisfaction and intent to leave the job for dental hygienists, and those factors affecting their intent to leave, so as to prevent dental hygienists from leaving their jobs in advance, and to strive for extending the life span of the job, contributing to improve dental care services provided by dental hygienists. Methods : The data were collected from 280 dental hygienists working in dental clinics or hospitals in Busan and Gyeongnam area by using a structured and self-administered questionnaire through mail, from February 1 to March 15, 2009, and were analyzed by using SPSS WIN 14.0 program. Results : First, It was the most prevalent for the dental hygienists surveyed to be between 100 to 149 thousand won in the level of monthly as 42.3%, and to be the assistance of dental examination and treatment for main duty as 62.5%. Leaving job was experience by 51.6% of the subjects, with work condition as the most common reason for 32.2%. Second, the degree of job satisfaction was 3.4 points overall in the score of 5 point Likert's scale on the average, showing affirmative level above the average, and significantly different according to certain characteristics such as age, education level, total years of work career, years of work career in the current job, monthly salary level, whether to provide monthly paid leave, and the number of patients treated per day. It also was significantly correlated with some structural factors and variables consisting attitude and value, including equity in pay(r=0.612), job perception as dental hygienist(r=0.573), work environment(r=0.552), self growth(r=0.531), affirmative attitude(r=0.421), and so on. Third, the mean score of intent to leave was 2.73 overall and lower than the average, showing significant relationship with some characteristics, such as age, marital status, education level, total years of work career, years of work career in the current job, monthly salary level, whether to provide monthly paid leave, and the number of patients treated per day. Intent to leave also showed the highest correlation with job satisfaction(r=-0.708), followed by equity in pay(r=-0.482), self growth (r=-0.453), job perception as dental hygienist(r=-0.392), work environment(r=-0.362), etc. Forth, job satisfaction was significantly influenced by some factors including equity in pay, followed by job perception as dental hygienist, relationship with fellow colleagues, affirmative attitude and work environment, and so on. Fifth, the intent to leave was significantly affected not only by job satisfaction but also by some structural factors including equity in pay, self growth and job perception as dental hygienist. Conclusions : The above results showed that the equity in pay was the most important factor for the intent to leave the job as well as job satisfaction among dental hygienists, thus suggesting that systematic measures should be provided to improve the job satisfaction to prevent economic loss due to leaving job frequently, and to provide pertinent reward system as a profession to enhance the motivation for accomplishment on job for dental hygienists.

셀프리더십이 창업의지에 미치는 영향 요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on Influential Factors of Self-leadership on Start-up Intention)

  • 창업의 원천이자 출발점이라 할 수 있는 창업의지는 경제발전을 위한 원동력이나 다름없다. 본 연구는 그 중요성을 인식하고, 창업자의 셀프리더십과 창업의지 간에 창업효능감과 내재적 동기의 매개역할을 중심으로 변수 간의 인과관계를 고찰하였다. 그동안 창업의지의 영향요인에 관한 연구가 이루어져 왔으나, 셀프리더십과 창업의지와의 연관성을 살펴 본 연구는 전무한 실정이다. 창업을 하면 조직을 구성하게 되고 창업자는 조직구성원들을 이끌어 가기 위한 리더십을 발휘해야 한다. 그러기 위해서는 리더십을 발휘하기 이전에 셀프리더십이 선행되어야 하며, 이를 위해서는 리더 자신의 동기와 효능감이 수반되어야만 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 잠재적 창업자가 아닌 창업자의 셀프리더십과 자기효능감 및 내재적 동기와의 인과관계 규명을 통하여 보다 명확한 창업의지관련 이론적 실증적 시사점을 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위해 창업보육기관 입주기업의 창업자로부터 받은 설문지 195부를 실증 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 셀프리더십이 창업효능감과 내재적 동기에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나, 셀프리더십이 창업효능감과 내재적 동기의 선행변수임을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 창업효능감과 내재적 동기가 창업의지에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 결국 창업의지를 높이기 위해서는 창업효능감과 내재적 동기의 역할이 중요함을 의미한다. 셋째, 본 연구의 핵심이라 할 수 있는 셀프리더십과 창업의지 간에 창업효능감과 내재적 동기의 매개효과를 보였다. 따라서 창업의지를 높이기 위해서는 창업효능감과 내재적 동기의 중요성을 인식하고 이를 증강시켜야 하며, 이를 위해 셀프리더십이 전제되어야 한다는 개념을 깊이 인식해야만 한다. 이와 같은 본 연구결과에 따라, 이론적 실무적 시사점을 제공하고자 한다.
