  • Purpose: Since 2006, social, ethical, and institutional options have been attempted in Korea to establish research ethics; however, the effectiveness of these attempts has not been thoroughly examined. Studies have been conducted abroad to determine the timeliness of social, ethical and institutional alternatives, such as the adoption of laws governing research ethics, the improvement of research ethics education, the bolstering of systems, the introduction of incentive programs, and the creation of social environments that support research ethics. Research design, data, and methodology: Specific facets of research misconduct or research ethics must be investigated and verified. Aspects of moral growth at the person level must be investigated via research ethics and research ethics education. Results: There is an increasing need for the general public to define and uphold research ethics as the impact of research findings on society grows. Researchers can boost their confidence in their ethical judgments and actions by being aware of research ethics. This may lead to confidence in their capacity to make morally sound decisions. Conclusion: By doing this study, the researcher confirmed that ethically correct behavior can lead to and realize self-growth. Researchers may be more interested in and dedicated to their work when they feel that their research might help them mature and develop ethically.

  • Purpose: This is a phenomenological study to describe the experiences of nursing students on home visiting nursing service as a community nursing practice. Method: Individual interviews were conducted on subjective experiences of 17 nursing students. Data were analyzed through Colaizzi's method in which meaningful statements were extracted and these were clustered into 6 themes. Result: The nursing students started practice with anxiety and expectation at the same time. They were frightened at the clients' inferior environment and their level of loneliness. They also felt pity and experienced complicated feelings for the clients. However, the home visiting practice was a chance for them to discard prejudice on the clients. Positive experiences on visiting nursing practice reported by the nursing students included lively interactions between nurses and the clients, and variable provision of primary nursing care. However, facts such as much limited visiting time, non-professional and limited scope of practice were reported as negative experiences. They felt both worthiness of the home visit service and restricted self-capability at the same time through the practice. They also felt sorry for the clients because the home visit services were carried out during limited time period. Regardless of this, the home visit experience provided them an opportunity of self-growth. This self-growth includes increased awareness of issues for elderly, building of self-identity as a nursing student, self-reflection, and realization of the value of family. Conclusion: This study may provide data for better understanding of nursing students experiences of home visiting nursing services. However, more study on the barriers of their community health practice is needed in the future. Moreover, it is needed to establish desirable practice environment through the collaborative relationships between the university and staffs in the public health center.

  • This study is designed to forecast the characteristics in food consumption patterns under per capita GNP growth. Ordinary least square(OLS)method was employed as analyzing technique. Equation was $Y=a_0+a_1X$, in which X was per capita GNP and Y were Engel coefficient, food supply, energy supply, nutrient intake and ratio of self-supply of food. The result obtained indicates that the intake of nutrient such as protein and fat will be increased, and wheat, corn and legume are expected to be imported wholly due to lower ratio of self-supply, and rice will be over-supplied continually. Therefore, the relevant policy of government must be established in the field of supply and demand of food, and the research of sound national health should be done.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of intent to leave of hospital pharmacists. The independent variables contain three groups of determinants: environmental variables(job opportunity and external support), psychological variables(met expectations, growth desire, self-efficacy, and positive/negative affectivity) and structural variables (power, legitimacy, job variety, job significance, workload, physical environment, job security, pay, internal support, job growth, and promotional chances). The sample used in this study consists of 252 pharmacists working at hospitals in Seoul City, Inchon City and Kyunggi Province. Data were collected with self- administered questionnaires from Oct. 24 to Nov. 14 in 2001 and analyzed using path analysis. The results of this study indicate that the following variables, listed in order of size, have significant negative effects on intent to leave of hospital pharmacists; met expectations, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, promotional chances, and job variety. Job opportunity was found to have significant positive effect on the intent to leave of hospital pharmacists. Implications for hospital administrators and discussions for further research were suggested.

  • Self-assembled InAs quantum dots (QDs) embedded in an InAlGaAs matrix were grown on an InP (001) using a solid-source molecular beam epitaxy and investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. TEM images indicated that the QD formation was strongly dependent on the growth behaviors of group III elements during the deposition of InAlGaAs barriers. We achieved a lasing operation of around 1.5 ${\mu}m$ at room temperature from uncoated QD lasers based on the InAlGaAs-InAlAs material system on the InP (001). The lasing wavelengths of the ridge-waveguide QD lasers were also dependent upon the cavity lengths due mainly to the gain required for the lasing operation.

  • The increased potential for the lifespan of a child with cancer is largely due to advances in drug treatment, radiation treatment, and surgical techniques. In this generation cancer has become associated with chronic illness. Therefore supportive nursing intervention for children with cancer is needed to promote normal growth and development. This study was designed to develop and test the supportive nursing intervention program for promoting body image and self-esteem of children with cancer The supportive nursing intervention program involved emotional, physical, informational, and social support. The subjects were 41 children with cancer(20 in intervention group, 21 in control group) in K city. Measurements were taken concerning body image and self-esteem from both groups during pre and post test The data were analyzed using Cronbach's alpha, x$^2$-test, paired t-test and t-test. The results were as follows : The intervention group had a more positive body image as measured by the Body Cathexis Scale (t=2.436, p=.020) and a more self esteem as measured by the Cpopersmith self-inventory (t=2.768, p=.009) than the control group at post test. According to this study, the supportive nursing intervention program was effective for promoting the body image and self-esteem of children with cancer. Repeated research is needed to develop a refined supportive nursing intervention program for children with chronic illness.

  • Purpose : This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of the clinical ladder system (CLS) by identifying the perception of the CLS, professional self-concept, self-efficacy, and organizational commitment among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses. Methods : Data were collected through a questionnaire survey of 173 nurses working in 11 ICUs at a tertiary hospital in Seoul. Results : The perception of the CLS, self-efficacy, and organizational commitment showed significant difference according to the CLS level. As a result of the partial Spearman correlation analysis after adjusting for demographic difference according to CLS (age, marital status, education, and clinical career), CLS positively correlated with the perception of the CLS (r=.16, p=.045), professional self-concept (r=.24, p=.001), and self-efficacy (r=.21, p=.007). On the contrary, organizational commitment negatively correlated with the perception of the CLS (r=-.43, p<.001) and self-efficacy (r=-.32, p<.001). Conclusion : The CLS is effective for professional self-concept and self-efficacy. However, specialists 2 nurses, who had high professional self-concept and self-efficacy, showed low level of organizational commitment. Thus, it is necessary to examine the factors of work burden and career plateau that are imposed after promotion and improve experience and planning according to the growth needs. Moreover, regular evaluation of the CLS will require hospital support to ensure that ICU nurses appreciate and actively participate in the support.

  • A numerical investigation to simulate the selective growth of silicon-germanium quantum-dots via local surface diffusivity enhancement is presented. A nonlinear equation for the waviness evolution of film surface is derived to consider the effects of spatially-varying diffusivity, influenced by a surface temperature profile. Results show that the morphology of the initially planar film shapes into an undulated surface upon perturbation, and a steady-state solution describes a fully grown quantum-dot. The present study points toward a fabrication technique that can obtain selectivity for self-assembly.
