  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the 21C Fashion's expression related to 'Verfremdung' theory, in aesthetic theories established after modern times, and then to examine a new meaning and value. The expressions of 'Verfremdung(estrangement)' in modern fashion, appear the followings: 1) placing distance with traditional sex and rational beauty of body. 2) paradox of inversion, 3) illogical juxtapositions by encounter. 4) dismantlement of material concept etc. After showing practically production technique that breaks traditional exception, that is, a new design method of open concept which drives positive idea about discrepancy of realities. This trial has warning abut art's self-control occurring at the time when aesthetic disinterestedness theory is expanded, and is considered indictment about a inhuman property of modern civilization and culture, and is considered expression of will to show alienation by it.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the concept of physical activity. The method was based on the steps of concept analysis by Walker and Avant(1988). The result of this study were as follows; Upon the concept analysis, physical activity is defined as a series of bodily movements which is performed voluntarily by individual. The defining attributes of physical activity were a series of bodily movements, energy expenditure, goal-directedness, and self-control of the body. The antecedents of physical activity were neuromusculoskeletal function, cardiopulmonary function and cognitive function. And the consequences of physical activity were improvement of physical function, induction of fatigue, and need(physiopsychosocial) satisfaction. Further studies are needed to develop the concept of physical activity using the Hybrid model. In addition, considering personal characteristics it is important to study the facilitating factors of physical activity.

  • Nursing literature suggests that the self-concept of nurses gives an important implications to educators and administrators as well as clinicians for their professional development. With a view to exploring how nurses view themselves, the Professional Self-Concept of Nurses Instrument (PSCNI) using 27 Likert items was developed by Arthur in Australia in 1990. This study is an extension of the PSCNI using Korean samples with some modifications. A convenience sample was drawn from 800 nurses working in three university hospitals in Seoul ; three university hospitals in Kyonggi-do and a university hospital and a psychiatric hospital in Kangwon-do. Seven hundred questionnaires were analyzed using the statistical analysis system(SAS). The reliability of the scale was tested by test-retest and Cronbach's alpha. Differences in the PSCNI, which are closely related to demographic variables, were examined by t-test, ANOVA and the Duncan's multiple range test. Factor analysis was employed so as to examine component factors. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The test-retest reliability of the PSCNI was .79 and Cronbach's alpha was .85. Item correlations with total revealed consistent correlations and subscale reliability varied from .49 to .85. 2. The average score of PSCNI was 75.21 and average item score was 2.79. 3. Twenty four items were derived from the PSCNI 27 items and these items clustered in three component factors. The cumulative percent of variance was 38.12% and for factor 1 was 22.81%, for factor 2, 9.79% and for factor 3, 5.51% respectively 4. A comparison of the scores for the dimensions of the PSCNI shows a relative difference in terms of mean item scores and in descending order, professional practice(m=2.83), communication (m=2.82) and satisfaction(m=2.70). 5. Professional self-concept of nurses was found to vary significantly according to age(P=.0001), religion(P=.0001), academic background(P= .0109), marital status(P=.0001), career(P= .0001) and position(P=.0001). In conclusion, there was a correlation between professional self-concept of nurses, and life and work variables. This study provides an important message for administrators and nurse educators by highlighting factors which can be addressed by education programs, staff development and appraisal. While the test results largely confirm the Australian and Canadian tests, further research is necessary to improve the cumulative percent of variance instead of applying Arthur's PSCNI directly to Korean nurses.

  • There is an urgent need to improve the tool predicting success or failure of academic achievement of nursing in Korea so as to identify as early as possible those students who should receive special instruction and to improve screening procedures for admission of nursing. The main purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between the grade point averages of courses learned and their psychological test characteristics in a baccalaureate nursing program. All 240 students, except freshmen, enrolled in Nursing Department of Seoul National University in the spring semester, 1972, participated in this study. All of the subjects completed the psychometric tests such as interest test, personality test and test of self-concept. Total grade point averages, grade point averages of general education subjects, of supporting science courses and of professional education subjects were used as performance criteria of the students. Through the calculation of product-moment correlation coefficients between the test scores and four grade point averages of each class and of total subjects, the following findings and recommendations were obtained. 1. There was so much variation in characteristics of interest test correlated with academic achievement of nursing students in each class. 2. Since the school objectives, curriculum and teaching strategies may affect predictive efficiency of characteristics of students'interest test, interest test must-be utilized in a homogeneous group in order to predict school achievement. 3. Characteristics of interest test positively correlated at significant level with total grade point averages of all subjects were scientific interest-biological, scientific interest-physical, and humanitarian interest. Scientific interest-physics: was the only characteristic positively correlated at significant level with total grade point averages and grade point averages of professional courses. 4. There were various patterns in characteristics of personality test correlated with school achievement of nursing students by class pattern and personality maturation as they progress toward higher classes. 5. A characteristic of personality test, responsibility, is in high positive correlation with academic achievement in the upper division of classes. 6. Responsibility was the sole personality factor positively correlated at significant level with total grade point averages and grade point averages of nursing courses in the total number of students. 7. There were very different correlation coefficients between characteristics of self-concept test and academic achievement according to the type of each class and type of courses they learned. 8. Characteristics of self-concept test positively correlated at significant level with total grade point averages and grade point averages of nursing courses of all students were physical self and row variability. Those who have positive concept on their own physical status and who are deficient in self-concept were higher in total grade point averages and grade point averages of professional courses than other students. 9. Scores of professional courses offered in freshmen and sophomore classes were in positive correlation with limited number of characteristics of psychological tests. In pursuit of a tool predicting successful academic achievement of nursing students, their G.P.A. during the junior and senior year of nursing will serve as the more reasonable criteria. 10. Junior students of this school were in higher positive correlation with many psychological factors than other classes.

  • This paper first introduces the concept of image as a key factor in recognition, and city identity as the dominant image of a region which is commonly possessed by individuals living and working in the region. Then, the new approach toward planning, the notion of self-organization associated with images and positive feedback mechanisms in terms of city vitalization, is discussed. Thirdly, carrying out the case study of a process in which Iida City in Japan has acquired a city identity as a puppet drama town, we present four stages in planning for city identity four stages and discuss the phenomena of city image self-organization. Finally, it is pointed out that multimedia are effective measures for the promotion of self-organization of city images, and that the role of local governments is very important in city planning to support the self-organization of cities.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the level of health behavior of school-age children and to identify the predicting variables of the school-age children's health behavior. The subject were 467 children in grades four to six, enrolled in two elementary schools located in two cities. The mean age of the subject was 10.03(SD=1.33). The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression. The result are as follows : 1. The mean of the score of health behavior of the school-age children was 154.6, showing that they are practicing health behavior relatively well. 2. There were significant differences in the mean scores of health behavior according to grade (F=6.53 p=.001), sex(t=-3.70, p=.000), educational level of the parents(F=4.92, p=.002 ; F=4.47, p=.004), occupation of the parents(F=3.31, p=.003 ; F=4.76, p=.000), and socioeconomic status(F=11.87, p=.000). 3. There were significant correlations between health behavior and health motivation(r=.53, p=.000), self-concept(r=.32, p=.000), perceived health status(r=.16, p=.000), and health locus of control (r=.15, p=.001). 4. Health motivation, self-concept, grade, socioeconomic status, and health locus of control were identified as predictor variables of health behavior of the school-age children from the stepwise multiple regression analysis. The total percent of variance accounted for by these five variables was 35.0%. From the result, it is suggested that in the development of a school health education program, the effect of health motivation and self-concept to promote student's health behavior in school-age children should be considered.
