Study of Self-assembled Organic Layer Formation at the HATCN/Au Interface

  • We elucidate the mechanism of the self-assembled organic layer formation at the organic/metal interface of hexaaza-triphenylene-hexacarbonitrile (HATCN)/Au(111) by first-principles calculations and Lowtemperature scanning tunneling microscope (STM). In this work, we used HATCN to deposit organic material which is well known as an efficient OLED charge generation material. Low-temperature STM measurements revealed that self-assembled hexagonal porous structure is formed at terraces of Au(111). We also found that the hexagonal porous structure has chirality and forms only small (<1000 $nm^2$) phaseseparated chiral domains that can easily change their chiral phase in subsequence STM images at 80 K. To explain the mechanism of these observation, we calculated the molecular-molecular and molecule-surface interaction energies by using density functional theory method. We found that the change of their chiral phase resulted from the competition between the two energies. These results have not only verified our experimental observations, but also revealed the delicate balance between different interactions that caused the self-assembed structures at the surface.

Fabrication of Graphene p-n Junction Field Effect Transistors on Patterned Self-Assembled Monolayers/Substrate

  • The field-effect transistors (FETs) with a graphene-based p-n junction channel were fabricated using the patterned self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). The self-assembled 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) monolayer deposited on $SiO_2$/Si substrate was patterned by hydrogen plasma using selective coating poly-methylmethacrylate (PMMA) as mask. The APTES-SAMS on the $SiO_2$ surface were patterned using selective coating of PMMA. The APTES-SAMs of the region uncovered with PMMA was removed by hydrogen plasma. The graphene synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition was transferred onto the patterned APTES-SAM/$SiO_2$ substrate. Both p-type and n-type graphene on the patterned SAM/$SiO_2$ substrate were fabricated. The graphene-based p-n junction was studied using Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. To implement low voltage operation device, via ionic liquid ($BmimPF_6$) gate dielectric material, graphene-based p-n junction field effect transistors was fabricated, showing two significant separated Dirac points as a signature for formation of a p-n junction in the graphene channel.

  • 이차원 표면 플라즈몬의 공명 흡수와 포토 마스크를 이용하여 11-MUA(11-Mercaptoundecanoic acid)와 11-MUOH(11-Mercaptoundecanol) 둥으로 이루어진 자기조립 단분자막(Self-Assembled Monolayer; SAM)의 다채널 영상을 얻었다. 통상의 Photoresist를 이용한 리토그래피 대신에 Thiol bonding의 광산화를 이용하여 패터닝 과정을 줄이고, 백색광 및 대역통과 필터(λ$_{0}$=633nm)를 이용하여 입사광으로써 레이저를 사용할 때 나타나는 간섭무늬를 줄였다. 이로부터 나타나는 이차원 영상의 명암을 정량적으로 보정하면 수 나노미터(nm) 두께의 변화를 측정할 수 있다. 또한 표면 플라즈몬 공명법은 국소화된 근접장 (소산장)을 이용하는 방법으로서, 통상 많이 이용되는 형광법 등에서 나타나는 광탈색(Photobleaching)이나 소광(Quenching) 현상이 없이 시료의 처리가 간단하고, 영상 신호의 시간에 따른 변화가 극히 적으며, 실시간으로 신호의 변화를 측정할 수 있다는 장점이 있다.

  • 일반적으로 꼬리부분에 카복실산을 갖는 알칸티올레이트는 바이오 물질의 고정화 활성물질로 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 알칸티올레이트의 전기적 성질과 물리적 안정성을 향상시키기 위해 공액구조를 갖는 방향족계 티올레이트를 사용하여 cytochrome c와 같은 단백질을 고정화시켰다. 방향족계 자기조립 단분자막의 패턴 형성은 다음과 같은 공정으로 행하였다. 4'-Mercapto-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid와 4-mercapto-[1,1';4',1']terphenyl-4'-carboxylic acid와 같은 방향족 티올레이트 분자를 금 기판에 흡착시킨 다음 네거티브 마스크를 가지고 원자외선 조사에 의해 산화반응을 시킨 후 deioniz water로 현상하였다. 공액계 자기조립 단분자막의 패턴형성과 전기적 성질은 STM과 AFM 측정을 통해 조사하였다. 또한 cytochrome c 또는 ferrocene amide를 패턴이 형성된 금 기판에 고정화시킨 다음 cyclic voltammeoy 측정을 통해 공액계 방향족 티올레이트의 전기적 활성을 검토하였다.

  • Electroless deposition(ELD) was applied to fabricate Cu interconnections on a TaN diffusion barrier with Pd seed layer. The Pd seed layer was obtained by self-assembled monolayer method(SAM) with PDDA and PSS as surfactants. We were able to obtain about 10nm Pd nano particles as seeds for electroless Cu deposition and the density of Pd seeds was much higher than that of Pd seeds fabricated by conventional Pd sensitization-activation method. Also we were able to obtain finer Cu interconnections by ELD. Therefore we concluded that the Pd seed layer by SAM was able to be applied to form Cu interconnection by ELD for under 30nm feature.

Tumoral Accumulation of Long-Circulating, Self-Assembled Nanoparticles and Its Visualization by Gamma Scintigraphy

  • The enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect is used extensively for the passive targeting of many macromolecular drugs for tumors. Indeed, the EPR concept has been a gold standard in polymeric anticancer drug delivery systems. This study investigated the tumoral distribution of self-assembled nanoparticles based on the EPR effect using fluorescein and radio-labeled nanoparticles. Self-assembled nanoparticles were prepared from amphiphilic chitosan derivatives, and their tissue distribution was examined in tumor-bearing mice. The size of the nanoparticles was controlled to be 330 run, which is a size suited for opening between the defective endothelial cells in tumors. The long-circulating polymer nanoparticles were allowed to gradually accumulate in the tumors for 11 days. The amount of nanoparticles accumulated in the tumors was remarkably augmented from 3.4%ID/g tissue at 1 day to 25.9%ID/g tissue at 11 days after i.v. administration. The self-assembled nanoparticles were sustained at a high level throughout the 14 day experimental period, indicating their long systemic retention in the blood circulation. The ${\gamma}$-images provided clear evidence of selective tumor localization of the $^{131}I$-labeled nanoparticles. Confocal microscopy revealed the fluorescein-labeled nanoparticles to be preferentially localized in the perivascular regions, suggesting their extravasation to the tumors through the hyperpermeable angiogenic tumor vasculature. This highly selective tumoral accumulation of nanoparticles was attributed to the leakiness of the blood vessels in the tumors and their long residence time in the blood circulation.

알킬 사슬 길이에 따른 러빙 처리된 자기 조립 단분자막의 액정 배향 연구 (Liquid crystal alignment on rubbed self-assembled monolayers according to alkyl chain length)

  • 본 논문에서는 알킬 사슬 길이에 따른 러빙 처리된 불소화 자기 조립 단분자막(fluorinated self-assembled monolayers; FSAM)의 수직 액정 배향 상태를 보고한다. FSAM의 증착을 위해 간단한 공정인 기체-상 방법이 사용되었다. FSAM의 가시광선 영역대 광학 평균 투과율은 77.63%~78.21%로 75.89%의 투과율을 갖는 기존의 폴리이미드막보다 우수하였다. 또한 프리틸트각 측정과 편광현미경 사진을 통해 FSAM의 우수한 수직 배향 특성을 관찰하였다. 접촉각과 FSAM의 표면에너지 측정을 통해 알킬 사슬 길이에 따른 프리틸트각이 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. FSAM의 높은 광학 투과율과 균일한 수직 배향 특성은 FSAM이 액정 배향막으로서의 가능성을 보여주었다.

Synthesis, Characterization and Cosmetic Application of Self-Assembled Sericin-PEG Nanoparticle

  • Silk Sericin(SS) is a natural protein extracted from cocoon of bombix mori and shows moisturizing effect to the skin due to a number of hydroxyl groups in the structure. But its application to cosmetics is limited due to its poor solubility in water. In order to solve this drawback and expand its application to cosmetics, polyethyleneglycol(PEG) was conjugated with sericin by reacting activated polyethyleneglycol(ActPEG). Reaction site of sericin is tyrosine residue, which was determined by using $^1$H-NMR. Random coil structure of sericin was transformed to beta-sheet structure by conjugating polyethyleneglycol. It was confirmed that melting point of sericin-PEG conjugate was lowered compared to that of each sericin and PEG due to the interaction between sericin and PEG in crystalline structure. Self-assembled sericin-PEG nanoparticle was obtained by dialyzing with alcohol solution of sericin-PEG conjugate against water. The particle is spherical and has 200-400nm of size. The moisturizing ability of sericin-PEG nanoparticle was much higher than that of sericin itself. Incorporation of vitamin A into sericin-PEG nanoparticle was carried out by diafiltration method. The content of incorporated Vitamin A in sericin-PEG nanoparticle was 8.9 wt%. Releasing behaviour of vitamin A incorporated into nanoparticle was tested in phosphate buffer, pH 7.4 at 37$^{\circ}C$. and half-life of Vitamin A release was 43hrs. Sericin-PEG nanoparticle exhibited higher moisturing effect than sericin itself and distilled water, respectively. No toxicity and irritation were observed in animal tests. It can be expected that the self-assembled sericin-PEG nanoparticle can be developed for cosmetics.

  • 양자점 발광 다이오드(QD-LED)의 효율과 안정성 향상을 위해서 QD 발광층에 주입되는 전하의 균형을 이루는 것은 필수이다. 산화 아연(ZnO)은 최신 QD-LED에서 전자수송층(electron transport layer, ETL)을 구성하기 위해 가장 많이 사용되고 있으나, ZnO의 자발적인 전자 주입은 QD-LED의 성능을 크게 열화시키는 과도한 전자 주입을 유발한다. 본 연구에서는 자기조립단분자막(self-assembled monolayer, SAM) 처리를 통해 ZnO의 전자 주입 특성을 조절하여 QD-LED의 성능을 향상시켰다. 전하 균형도를 향상시킨 결과, SAM을 처리한 QD-LED는 SAM을 처리 안한 소자와 비교하여 내부 양자 효율(external quantum efficiency, EQE)이 25%, 최대 휘도는 200% 향상되었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 수용액상에서 자기조립 나노입자를 형성할 수 있는 레티노익산이 접목된 양친성 폴리아미노산 유도체를 합성하였다. 합성한 양친성 폴리아미노산은 레티노익산의 접목도가 각각 5, 10, 30 mol%가 되도록 조절하였다. 수용액 상에서 양친성 폴리아미노산은 소수성 레티노익산의 분자 결합에 의해 안정한 자기조립 나노입자를 형성하였다. 자기조립 나노입자는 레티노익산의 접목도가 증가할수록 크기는 작아지고 형태는 구형에서 이중층 구조로 전이되었다. 또한 접목도가 10%일 때, 자기조립 입자의 구조 붕괴 없이 레티놀의 포집 및 전달이 가장 효과적인 것을 확인하였다. 접목도가 제어된 자기조립입자는 레티놀을 안정적으로 포집할 수 있기 때문에 주름개선제 및 다양한 기능성 화장품 전달체로 활용될 수 있다.
