The present study was conducted to develop a standardized job description for clinical dietitians working in hospitals. A developing curriculum (DACUM) method was used for the job analysis of clinical dietitians. Based on DACUM analysis with 14 members, including clinical dietitians and professors majoring in clinical nutrition and job analysis, information on the duties, tasks, and task elements of clinical dietitians was determined. To verify the job descriptions derived from DACUM analysis, a total of 46 tertiary and general hospitals with over 500 beds were recruited for the survey. The final developed job description for clinical dietitians included 7 duties, 27 tasks, and 93 task elements. The duties consisted of nutritional assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, nutrition monitoring evaluation, consultation cooperation, nutrition research, and self-development. The mean scores of perceived importance, performance, and difficulty on the clinical dietitian's task elements (out of a maximum score of 5.0) were 4.5, 3.7, and 3.5, respectively, with significant differences between the items (P<0.001). The perceived importance and performance grid of clinical dietitian's tasks showed that "construction and maintenance of collaboration" (E2) and "activity of quality improvement" (F1) received relatively low scores for performance despite their high importance scores; thus the performance of these tasks requires significant improvement. In conclusion, the job descriptions of clinical dietitians developed from this study are useful for the qualitative improvement of clinical nutrition services in hospitals.

They were divided into experimental and comparison groups, each consisting of 20 members. The data were collected during the period from December 1, 1999 to April 11, 2000. Tools of the study included the protocol of supportive nursing intervention which was developed by researcher with reference to a literal review and esperts' advice. The measurement tool of anxiety was consisting of totaled 20 question items which was prepared by Spielberger and translated by Kim et al., the device of depression measurement consisting of total 20 question items which was the output of Song's translation the device of depression self-evaluation from Zung. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/PC 9.0 program. The homogeneity of the subjects were tested using x2-test and t-test. 5 hypoteses were tested using t-test. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. 1.The first hypothesis that the experimental group receiving supportive nursing intervention shows a little anxiety than the control group not receiving supportive nursing intervention was supported(t=3.817, P=.000). 2.The second hypothesis that the experimental group receiving supportive nursing intervention shows a little depression than the control group not receiving supportive nursing intervention was supported(t=8.089, P=.000). Consequently, supportive nursing intervention was found an effective nursing intervention strategy to reduce anxiety and depression of head and neck cancer patients. Providing supportive nursing intervention in nursing practice can enhance the quality of life of those cancer patients.
The purpose of this study was to investigate activity participation level and functional disability based on ICF for the elderly aged over 65 years. Subjects were 100 senior citizens. We performed data collection using Korean Activity Card Sorting(KACS) and World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0(WHODAS 2.0). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression. As a result of the survey of activity participation levels, retained level of activity participation of instrumental activity was highest at 75.06%. Among the WHODAS 2.0 sub-domain, 'getting along with people', 'participation in society' had the most difficulties and 'self-care', 'life activities' were the lowest. An analysis of the correlation between the activity retention rate and functional disability showed that there was a significant negative correlation. Significant factors influencing functional disability were activity participation level of social activity, instrumental activity and main work(retirement). We confirmed that activity participation level was important factor on functional disability. Further, we need standardization study for generalization.
The purpose of this study was to contribute to family nursing for reducing stress and improving coping of the parents of mentally retarded children. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires during a period of 2 months between November 1994 and January 1995 in the Kyoung-in area. The subjects consist of 180 parents (90 mothers and 90 fathers) of mentally retarded children attending schools for the handicapped and 186 parents (93 mothers and 93 fathers) of normal children. The levels of general stress and of parental role stress were measured with the General stress scale and the Parental role stress scale, respectively, while the Coping scale was adopted to measure the level of coping. The data were analyzed by using Chi-square test. fisher's exact test, Repeated masured ANOVA, oneway ANOVA and Scheffe comparison test. The results were as follows ; 1. The level of general stress was significantly higher in the mothers and the fathers of the men-tally retarded than in the respective parents of the normal. Of the parents, the mothers experienced significantly greater level of general stress than the fathers did in both groups of the retarded and of the normal. 2. As for the parental role stress, the mothers and the fathers of the mentally retarded experienced significantly greater stress than respective parents of normal children did. In particular, the stress was significantly higher in the mothers than the fathers of these children in both groups. The difference in the levels of parental role stress experienced by mothers and by fathers was significantly bigger among those of the mentally retarded tnan among those of normal children. 3. No significant difference in the level of coping was observed between the mothers of both groups and the fathers of both groups. By contrast, the fathers revealed significantly greater scores in coping than the mothers in both groups. 4. General stress experienced by the fathers of the mentally retarded was different by health status, satisfaction with spouses, and the supports from their spouses. Health status, satisfaction with spouses, and monthly income Influenced parental role stress experienced by those fathers. Their level of coping was associated with their satis-faction with spouses and family life. 5. Of the mothers of the mentally retarded, the level of general stress was different by their health status, while parental role stress was related to the satisfaction with their spouses and the child's age. The level of coping among the mothers was different by the supports from their spouses. The above findings indicate that those parents of the mentally retarded did not take more coping strategies than those of the normal did, despite greater stress experienced among themselves. Hence, nursing intervention for managing stress should be given to those parents including fathers of mentally retarded children. Mothers of the mentally retarded, in particular, should receive high priority in planning nursing care, since they experience greater levels of both general stress and parental role stress than their spouses, which is most likey due to primary responsibility in child rearing given to them at home.
