The Activation of PPAR-α and Wnt/β-catenin by Luffa cylindrica Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extract

  • Luffa cylindrica (LC) is a very fast-growing climber and its fruit have been considered as agricultural wastes. We conducted to check the comparative qualities of ethanol solvent extraction (LCE) and supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (LCS) of L. cylindrica fruit and seed. LCS had higher antioxidant and polyphenol contents than LCE. LCS were significantly increased peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-a and involucrin expression as epidermal differentiation marker in 3D skin equivalent model. LCS also showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, a causative bacteria in atopic dermatitis. In addition, LCS inhibited the adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells. When treated with the extract at a concentration of 100 ㎍/mL, the Wnt/β-catenin pathway reporter luciferase activity of HEK 293-TOP cells was increased approximately by 2-folds compared to that of the untreated control group. These results indicate that L. cylindrica supercritical carbon dioxide extract may serve as a cosmeceutical for improving skin barrier function and the treatment of obesity.

검설뽕의 동질4배체 ′4원뽕26호′의 임성 및 재배학적 특성 (Fertility and Some Agronomic Characteristics of ′Sawonppong26′ Autotetraploid Artificially derived from Keomseolppong (Morus spp))

  • Autotetraploid 'Sawonppong 26'was induced by dropping clochicine solution in growing point of Keomseolppong which is of high rootability and some agronomic charactelistics are as follows. Sawonppong 26 is a tetraploid of Keomseolppong with 56 of the chromosome number. Its fertlization percent was 59.4% and the germination percent of sank seed was normal. Sugar degree of mulberry fruit was 13.3% and total acidity was 0.69%. Single fruit weight of Sawonppong 26 was increased by 79%, as compared to that of Keomseolppong. Even though percent of survival of hard wood cutting was 94%, number of rootings was less and diameter of root was slender, it is expectedly a promising variety to be used for a breeding parent from the aspect of rootability.

Growth of Sheet-like ZnO Nanostructures on ZnO nano rods using Chemical Bath Deposition

  • We demonstrate the growth of a sheet-like ZnO membrane on ZnO nano rod layers. The growth process is composed of 3 steps of ZnO seed formation, ZnO nano rod growth and sheet-like ZnO membrane formation on those nano rods. To confirm the fundamental growth mechanism, the lattice structures of each step were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurement. Analysis of the relation between the texture coefficient and the surface shape of the ZnO membrane on the ZnO nano rods shows that the surface morphology of ZnO nano structures can be controlled using the temperature of the growing solution and the concentration of the chemical solution.

  • Single crystals of zinc tungstates were grown by the Czochralski method. To obtain the seed crystals various methods were employed including 4 points platinum wirse which dipped the melt and the capillary action from the melt led the 3 differently oriented seeds such as [100], [010] and [001] directions. Optimum growing conditions were observed as neck diameter 2mm rotation speed 50-60 rpm maximum diameter 15mm and pulling rate 0-10 mm/hr. Dendrites covered on the olidified surface in a platinum crucible were turned out to be [001] direction because obviously this crystal has the strong [001] preferential growth habit. The (100) and (010) planes of single crystals showed the slip planes and the (010) plane showed the perfect cleavage surface.

  • 본 연구결과에서 개발 가공사료급여 시험구와 관행사료 급여구의 산란율과 부화율에서 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않고 있는 점은 관상조류에 개발 가공사료의 이용이 가능한 것으로 판단되었다. 다만 이를 이용하기 위해서는 조류의 사료 섭취습성을 이용한 가공사료의 형태적 측면을 고려하여야 할 것으로 사료되며, 새로운 사료에 대한 적응 및 길들이기를 위해서는 추가적인 연구가 필요한 것으로 판단된다.

  • MR 영상에서 간의 인식은 간에 존재하는 질병을 파악하는 것뿐만 아니라 간에 대한 치료 방법이나 수술방법을 결정하는 중요한 정보를 제공한다. 이러한 일반적인 간의 인식 방법은 영역 분할 알고리즘을 기반으로 처리되어진다. IT분야에서의 영역 분할 알고리즘은 대부분 밝기 정보, 형태 정보, 패턴 분석 등 다양한 입력 정보의 컴퓨팅 처리를 통해 처리되어 진다. 그러나 이러한 컴퓨팅 방법으로는 앞서 언급된 입력정보들이 의미가 없을 경우, 영역 분할에 많은 제약이 따르게 된다. 따라서 본 논문은 이러한 컴퓨팅 처리의 근본적인 제약사항을 해결하고자, MR 이론의 R2-map정보 기반의 효과적인 영역 분할 방법은 제안하였다. 본 방법은 간 영역이 포함된 영상에서 실험하였으며, R2-map맵의 일부 특징점을 Region growing의 Seed point로 설정하여 경계가 모호하더라도 영역 분할이 가능하게끔 하였다. 해당 영상의 실험 결과 8.5%의 평균 오차로 일반적인 영역 분할 알고리즘에 비해 높은 정확도가 산출되었다.

  • 코 내부의 복잡한 기하학적 형상으로 인해 nasal airway의 분리는 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 본 논문은 velocimetry of nasal airflow 와 코 수술 계획을 위하여 3차원 공간에서 nasal airway를 interactive semiautomatic으로 분리하고 시각화하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 ROI(Region-Of-Interest)와 multi-seed 3d region growing(MS3RG)기법을 적용하여 비강을 분리하며 볼륨렌더링 기법을 이용하여 분리된 영역을 3차원 공간에서 직관적으로 확인 할 수 있다. 또한 분리된 3차원 비강 모델은 유동흐름 실험을 위하여 3차원 프린터를 통해 실제 모형으로 제작 가능하다. 그리하여 CT dataset(512*512*175)을 가지고 매뉴얼 세그멘테이션에서 5시간 정도 걸리던 작업을 반자동 세그멘테이션 방법을 이용할 경우 최대 3분 이내에 분리 작업을 완료할 수 있으며 수치해석 실험 및 물리 실험에 이용할 수 있다.

Interactive Region Segmentation Method Using Agglomerative Clustering

  • Due to global warming, various natural disasters such as floods and droughts are increasing. If we can detect the possibility of natural disasters in advance, we can prevent massive damages caused by natural disasters. Recent advances in visual sensor technologies have enabled remote monitoring of a variety of natural environments, including lakes, rivers, and shores. In this paper, we propose a method to segment an image obtained from video sensor networks into regions in order to monitor the environment effectively. In the proposed method, we first partition the image into superpixels and model the connections between superpixels as a graph. Then, initial seeds for each region are set by using the prior information, and the initial seeds are expanded to form regions using agglomerative clustering. Experimental results show that the proposed method extracts the regions from natural environment images easily and accurately.

  • Mesh model generated from 3D reconstruction usually comes with lots of noise, which challenges the performance and robustness of mesh simplification approaches. To overcome this problem, we present a novel method for mesh simplification which could preserve structure and improve the accuracy. Our algorithm considers both the planar structures and linear features. In the preprocessing step, it automatically detects a set of planar structures through an iterative diffusion approach based on Region Seed Growing algorithm; then robust linear features of the mesh model are extracted by exploiting image information and planar structures jointly; finally we simplify the mesh model with plane constraint QEM and linear feature preserving strategies. The proposed method can overcome the known problem that current simplification methods usually degrade the structural characteristics, especially when the decimation is extreme. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method, compared to other simplification algorithms, can effectively improve the quality of mesh and yield an increased robustness on noisy input mesh.

White Rot of Korean Wild Chive Caused by Stromatinia cepivora

  • In May 2020, we surveyed disease occurrence on vegetables grown in Seosan area, Korea. During the disease survey, white rot symptoms were observed in Korean wild chive (Allium monanthum) plants growing in fields. The symptoms occurred mainly in the seed bulb-producing fields of the crop. The above ground parts of the diseased plants displayed premature yellowing and dying of older leaves and stunting of the plants. The bulbs and roots of the diseased plants turned black and rotted. The disease occurred in a range of 1-60% in four of the eight fields surveyed. Three isolates of Sclerotium sp. were obtained from the bulb lesions of diseased plants. All isolates were identified as Stromatinia cepivora based on the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis. Pathogenicity of the isolates on Korean wild chive was confirmed by artificial inoculation test. The lesions induced by the inoculation test were similar to those observed in the investigated fields. This is the first report of S. cepivora causing white rot in Korean wild chive.
