Computational Study of the Magnetically Suspended Centrifugal Blood Pump (2nd Report: Pressure Fluctuation and Stability of Impeller Rotation for Different Volute Shapes)

  • The turbo-type blood pump studied in this paper has an impeller that is magnetically suspended in a double volute casing. The impeller rotates with minimal fluctuations caused by fluid and magnetic forces. In order to improve stability of the rotating impeller and to facilitate long-term use, a careful investigation of the pressure fluctuations and of the fluid force acting on the impeller is necessary. For this purpose, two models of the pump with different volute cross-sectional area are designed and studied with computational fluid dynamics software. The results show that the fluid force varies with the flow rate and shape of the volute, that the fluctuations of fluid force decrease with increasing flow rate and that the vibratory movement of the impeller is more efficiently suppressed in a narrow volute.

Ultimate flexural and shear capacity of concrete beams with corroded reinforcement

  • Assessment of structural behaviour of corrosion affected structures is an important issue, which would help in making certain decisions pertaining to the inspection, repair, strengthening, replacement and demolition of such structures. The paper presents formulations to predict the loss of weight and the loss of cross-sectional area of the reinforcing bar undergoing corrosion based on the earlier study carried out by the present authors (Bhargava et al. 2006). These formulations have further been used to analytically evaluate the ultimate bending moment and ultimate shear force capacity of the corroded concrete beams. Results of the present study indicate that, a considerably good agreement has been observed between the experimental and the analytically predicted values for the weight loss and reduction in radius of the corroded reinforcing bars. A considerably good agreement has also been observed between the experimental and the analytically predicted values of ultimate bending moment and ultimate shear force capacity for the corroded concrete beams.

Study of the effect of varying shapes of holes in energy absorption characteristics on aluminium circular windowed tubes under quasi-static loading

  • In this paper, energy absorption characteristics of circular windowed tubes with different section shapes (circular, ellipse, square, hexagon, polygon and pentagon) are investigated numerically and experimentally. The tube possesses the same material, thickness, height, volume and average cross sectional area which are subjected under axial and oblique quasi-static loading conditions. Numerical model was constructed with FE code ABAQUS/Explicit, the obtained outcome of simulation is in good matching with the experimental data. The energy absorbed, specific energy absorption, crash force efficiency, peak and mean loads along with the collapse modes with their initiation point of simple and windowed tubes were evaluated. The technique for order of preference by similarity ideal solution (TOPSIS) approach was employed for assessing their overall crushing performances. The obtained results confirm that efficacy of crash force indicators have improved by introducing windows and tubes with pentagonal and circular windows achieves the maximum ranking about 0.528 and 0.517, it clearly reveals the above are best window shapes.

횡방향철근이 감소된 중공사각단면 교각의 내진거동 특성 (Seismic Characteristics of Hollow Rectangular Sectional Piers with Reduced Lateral Reinforcements)

  • 콘크리트 교량의 합리적인 내진설계는 지진이 발생할 때 연성파괴메커니즘이 유도될 수 있도록 적절하게 교각 연성도를 확보하는 것이다. 현행 기준에서는 이를 위해 휨모멘트의 설계지진력을 산정할 때 응답수정계수를 도입하고 있으며, 연성도 확보를 위한 횡방향철근량을 규정하고 있다. 그러나, 이러한 내진규정은 일반적으로 단면이 크게 설계되는 우리나라에서는 횡방향철근이 과다하게 산정되는 비합리적이었다. 이를 개선하기 위해 소요연성도에 기반한 새로운 내진설계법이 제안되었으나 거동특성과 횡방향철근의 유효구속력이 다른 중공단면에 적용하기 위해서는 향후 많은 검증과 보완이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 축방향철근의 겹침이음과 횡방향철근량을 변수로 한 중공단면기둥을 제작하여 준정적 재하실험을 수행하였으며 다양하게 내진거동특성을 분석하고 내진성능을 확인하였다. 본 연구 결과는 향후 중공단면교각의 연성도(성능)기반 내진설계를 위한 기초자료로 제공될 수 있다.

공군조종사의 직무소진이 안전행동에 미치는 효과와 안전분위기의 조절효과에 관한 연구 (The effect of job burnout on safety action, and the moderating effect of safety climate in Korean Air Force)

  • This paper reviewed the effect of job burnout on safety outcomes, and the moderating effect of safety climate in Korean Air Force. The prevalence of burnout in air force pilots has not been determined and reviewed. It is also unknown whether pilots' burnout may affect their safety outcomes(safety action & compliance). The primary objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of burnout and it's effect on safety outcomes. For cross-sectional survey, 910 questionnaires were sent to pilots in air force, and 722 questionnaires among them were returned effectively. The questionnaire was divided into 4 parts examining pilots' demographic factors, job burnout, safety outcomes, and safety climates. To test and review proposed hypotheses, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used. The results of statistical analysis appeared as follow; 1) EE(emotional exhaustion) and RPA(reduced personal accomplishment) effected negatively on safety action. 2) EE and RPA effected negatively on safety compliance. 3) EE effected more positively on safety action in higher SS(superior support) group than in lower SS group. 4) RPA effected more positively on safety compliance in higher SS(superior support) group than in lower SS group. 5) RPA effected more positively on safety action in higher CW(coworker support) group than in lower CW group.

복심곡선 레일이상마모 발생 저감 사례 (The Reduction Case of Occurrence of Abnormal Wearing of Rail in Compound Curve Part)

  • Rail provides running tract for train and broadly and widely conveys the weight of the train exerted from the train wheels that the rail directly supports onto the cross tie and roadbed, and supports the cross-sectional pressure exerted by centrifugal force at curvatures. That is, stationary rail provides surface on which dynamic train runs and guarantees cross-sectional resistance to enable the vertical snake motion of the train wheels as well as to maintain lateral force at curvatures. Rail provides running surface on which train wheels can run smoothly, and secures vertical and lateral force. However, it undergoes continuous destructive reactions (wearing and damages) and abrasion of the cladding by the train wheels. It is obvious that wearing will result when two metal parts act against each other. However, occurrence of abnormal wearing such as rapid wearing of the rail side due to complex generation of various mechanisms at the contact surface between the rail and train wheel flange. It is not easy to simply examine the causes of occurrence of abnormal wearing of rail and train wheel flange. Although countless number of academicians and specialists are conducting researches on abnormal wearing of rail and vertical wearing of train wheels, I believe it is too early to argue on pros and cons due to insufficiency of officially verified information on the issue. This review will be focusing on the examples of repairs that reduced the generation of abnormal wearing of rail by reviewing and improving characteristics of wearing and slack, speed of the train and cant as well as status of lubricator by choosing the compound curves present in the section between the $Anguk{\sim}Jongno3-ga$ Stations of the Route No. 3 among the compound curve tracks of the Seoul Metro Routes No. 3 & 4 at which abnormal wearing is generated continuously.

변단면 파일벤트 구조의 수평거동 분석 (Analysis of Laterally Loaded Pile-Bent Structure with Varying Cross-sectional Area)

  • 본 연구에서는 수평하중을 받는 파일벤트(pile-bent) 구조의 변단면에 따른 거동특성을 분석하기 위하여 beam-column 모델을 적용하여 수평변위 및 모멘트, 부재력(응력)을 단일단면 파일벤트 구조의 수평거동과 비교하였다. 분석결과 지표면에서 변단면 파일벤트 구조의 수평변위량이 동일하중 재하시 단일형 파일벤트 구조의 수평변위량보다 커지는 경향을 보였으나, 동일지반, 동일하중조건의 경우에는 변단면 존재유무에 관계없이 최대휨모멘트 발생위치는 일정한 경향을 보였다. 또한 말뚝재료의 부재력 검토 결과 파일벤트 구조의 변단면 부분에서의 부재력이 최대침모멘트 발생 깊이에서의 부재력보다 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이는 일체형 말뚝의 구조적 특성으로 최대침모멘트 발생위치보다 변단면 부분의 단면축소로 인해 취약해지기 때문에 변단면 발생부분에 대한 보강이 필수적으로 요구됨을 알 수 있었다.

  • 터널 유지관리 단계의 계측을 통해 획득한 내공변위 자료를 이용하여 라이닝 단면에 작용하는 축력 및 휨 모멘트의 단면력을 역산하기 위한 기법을 제시하였다. 계측을 위해 Digital방식의 DOCS시스템을 지하철 단면에 적용하였다. 역산결과 매설식 계측기기에 의해 측정된 측정하중과 일치함을 알 수 있어 기법의 효용성이 입증되었다. 또한, 계측기 센서의 진동, 시험 열차 운행, 터널내 온도변화 및 고전압에 의한 영향을 검토하여 향후 유지관리 방안을 제시 하였다.

  • 국내 도로교설계기준에서는 날개벽 길이가 8m 미만인 경우에 대해서 날개벽을 4개 구역으로 나누고 캔틸레버 구조로 간편하게 수계산하여 단면력을 산정하도록 하는 간편법을 제시하고 있다. 이러한 간편법은 수계산에 의존하던 때에 만들어진 규정으로 과도한 안전율을 고려하게 되어 경제성 면에서도 불리한 설계가 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 불합리한 교대 날개벽 관련 도로교설계기준을 개선하기 위해서, 날개벽을 2변 고정 판구조로 해석하고 시방서 단면력과 비교검토를 실시하여 현시방서의 문제점을 정량화하고 개선책을 제시하였다.

  • An analytical method to predict the flexural behavior of composite girder is presented in which the early-age properties of concrete are specified including maturing of elastic modulus, creep and shrinkage. The time dependent constitutive relation accounting for the early-age concrete properties is derived in an incremental format by expanding the total form of stress-strain relation by the first order Taylor series with respect to the reference time. The sectional analysis calculates the axial and curvature strains based on the force and moment equilibriums. The deflection curve of the box girder approximated by the quadratic polynomial function is calculated by applying to the proper boundary conditions in the consecutive segments. Numerical applications are made for the 3-span double composite steel box girders which is a composite bridge girder filled with concrete at the bottom of the steel box in the negative moment region. The one dimensional finite element analysis results are compared with those of the three dimensional finite element analysis and the analytical method based on the sectional analysis. Close agreement is observed among the three methods.
