This study proposes a system reliability analysis of rack storage facilities subjected to forklift colliding events. The proposed system reliability analysis consists of two steps: the first step is to identify dominant failure modes that most contribute to the failure of the whole rack facilities, and the second step is to evaluate the system failure probability. In the first step, dominant failure modes are identified by using a simulation-based selective searching technique where the contribution of a failure mode to the system failure is roughly estimated based on the distance from the origin in the space of the random variables. In the second step, the multi-scale system reliability method is used to compute the system reliability where the first-order reliability method (FORM) is initially used to evaluate the component failure probability (failure probability of one member), and then the probabilities of the identified failure modes and their statistical dependence are evaluated, which is called as the lower-scale reliability analysis. Since the system failure probability is comprised of the probabilities of the failure modes, a higher-scale reliability analysis is performed again based on the results of the lower-scale analyses, and the system failure probability is finally evaluated. The illustrative example demonstrates the results of the system reliability analysis of the rack storage facilities subjected to forklift impact loadings. The numerical efficiency and accuracy of the approach are compared with the Monte Carlo simulations. The results show that the proposed two-step approach is able to provide accurate reliability assessment as well as significant saving of computational time. The results of the identified failure modes additionally let us know the most-critical members and their failure sequence under the complicated configuration of the member connections.

Pasture composition, an important attribute determining sward condition and value, is normally assessed by hand separation, drying and measuring weight contribution of each species in the mixture. This is a tedious, time and labour consuming procedure. NIRS has demonstrated the potential for predicting botanical composition of swards, but most of the work has been carried out on dry samples. The aim of this work was to evaluate the feasibility of developing NIR models for predicting the white clover and ryegrass content in fresh or dry mixtures artificially prepared from pure samples of both species. Mixtures from pure stands of white clover(Trifolium repens) and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) were prepared with different proportions (0 to 100%) of each species (fresh weight). A total of 55 samples were made (11 mixtures,5 cuts). Spectra (400 to 2500 nm) were taken from fresh chopped (rectangular cuvettes, transport sample module) samples, in a NIR Systems 6500 scanning monochromator controlled by the software NIRS 3 (Infrasoft International), which was also utilized for calibration development. Different math treatments (derivative order, subtraction gap and smooth segment) and a scatter correction treatment of the spectra (SNV and Detrend) were tested. Equations were developed by modified partial least squares. Prediction accuracy evaluated by cross-validation, showed that percentage of clover or ryegrass, as contribution in dry weight, can be successfully percentage of clover or ryegrass, as contribution in dry weight, can be successfully predicted either on fresh or dried samples, with equations developed by different math treatments. Best equations for fresh samples were developed including a first, second, or third derivative, whereas for dry samples best equations included a second or third derivative. Standard errors of ross validation were about 6% for fresh and 3.6% for dry samples, Coefficient of determination of cross validation (1-VR) were over 0.95 times the value of SECV for fresh samples and over 8 times the value of SECV for dry samples. Scatter correction (SNV and Detrend) in general improved prediction accuracy. It is concluded more precise on dried and ground samples, it can be used with an acceptable error level and less time and labour, on fresh samples.
A consistent finite element formulation and analytic solutions are presented for stability of thin-walled circular arch. The total potential energy is derived by applying the principle of linearized virtual work and including second order terms of finite semitangential rotations. As a result, the energy functional corresponding to the semitangential moment is newly derived. Analytic solutions for the out-of-plane buckling of symmetric thin-walled curved beam subjected to pure bending or uniform compression with simply supported boundary conditions are obtained. For finite element analysis, the cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions and $16{\times}16$ stiffness matrix for curved beam elements and $14{\times}14$ stiffness matrix for straight beam elements are evaluated, respectively. In order to illustrate the accuracy of this study, analytical and numerical results for lateral buckling problems of circular arch are presented and compared with available analytical solutions.

This study proposes a method to quickly and accurately acquire distance information on direction signs. The proposed method is composed of the recognition of the sign, pre-processing to facilitate the acquisition of the road sign distance, and the acquisition of the distance data. The road sign recognition uses color detection including gamma correction in order to mitigate various noise issues. In order to facilitate the acquisition of distance data, this study applied tilt correction using linear factors, and resolution correction using Fourier transform. To acquire the distance data, morphological operation was used to highlight the area, along with labeling and template matching. By acquiring the distance information on the direction sign through such a processes, the proposed system can be output the distance remaining to the next junction. As a result, when the proposed method is applied to system it can process the data in real-time using the fast calculation speed, average speed was shown to be 0.46 second per frame, with accuracy of 0.65 in similarity value.

Although commercial PIV systems have been widely used for the non-intrusive velocity field measurement of fluid flows, they are still under development and have considerable room for improvement. In this study, a single-frame double-exposure PIV system using a high-resolution CCD camera was developed. A pulsed Nd:Yag laser and high-resolution CCD camera were synchronized by a home-made control circuit. In order to resolve the directional ambiguity problem encountered in the single-frame PIV technique, the second particle image was genuinely shifted in the CCD sensor array during the time interval dt. The velocity vector field was determined by calculating the displacement vector at each interrogation window using cross-correlation with 50% overlapping. In order to check the effect of spatial resolution of CCD camera on the accuracy of PIV velocity field measurement, the developed PIV system with three different resolution modes of the CCD camera (512 ${\times}$ 512, lK ${\times}$ IK, 2K ${\times}$ 2K) was applied to a turbulent flow which simulate the Zn plating process of a steel strip. The experimental model consists of a snout and a moving belt. Aluminum flakes about $1{\mu}m$ diameter were used as scattering particles for the liquid flow in the zinc pot and the gas flow above the zinc surface was seeded with atomized olive oil with an average diameter of 1-$3{\mu}m$. Velocity field measurements were carried out at the strip speed $V_s$=1.0 m/s. The 2K ${\times}$ 2K high-resolution PIV technique was significantly superior compared to the smaller pixel resolution PIV system. For the cases of 512 ${\times}$ 512 and 1K ${\times}$ 1K pixel resolution PIV system, it was difficult to get accurate flow structure of viscous flow near the wall and small vortex structure in the region of large velocity gradient.

The objective of this study was to determine the criteria for density and moisture content measurements made with a nuclear density meter on common materials in the construction field. The study also sought to test a full-type nuclear density meter in controlling the density of overlay layers( 2.5~5.0cm). In order to determine the accuracy and reliablility of nuclear guage measurements made on construction materials, laboratory and field tests were conducted. Wooden blocks( 65 x 45 ${\times}$ 50 cm) and a special steel compactor( 4.7kg) were constructed in order to carry out tests which were conducted on three different materials; coarse gramed soil, fine grained soil, and AC material. Throughout all laboratory and field tests, the nuclear density and moisture content were determined using Humboldt 5OOLP nuclear gauge. The tests on subgrade material entailed obtaining density measurements by means of both the sand replacement method and the nuclear density meter. The results of the sand replacement method were then compared to the readings recorded bu the meter. As in the subgrade material tests, density measurements made during AC pavement tests were also determined using the unclear meter in addition to a second means; through the core method. The meter readings and core densties were compared as was done in the tests on subgrade materials. The correlation between the results of the sand replacement test( also, the core method) and meter readings on subgrade material was then determined. Sirnilarly, the observed results were then analyzed through linear regression. The tests to determine thin-lift density by means of a full-type nuclear density meter also conducted on the overlay layers( about 4. 8cm thickness) above AC pavements at road construction sities in Korea.
We propose an efficient block classification of the document images using the second-order statistical texture features computed from spatial gray level dependence matrix (SGLDM). We studied on the techniques that will improve the block speed of the segmentation and feature extraction speed and the accuracy of the detailed classification. In order to speedup the block segmentation, we binarize the gray level image and then segmented by applying smoothing method instead of using texture features of gray level images. We extracted seven texture features from the SGLDM of the gray image blocks and we applied these normalized features to the BP (backpropagation) neural network, and classified the segmented blocks into the six detailed block categories of small font, medium font, large font, graphic, table, and photo blocks. Unlike the conventional texture classification of the gray level image in aerial terrain photos, we improve the classification speed by a single application of the texture discrimination mask, the size of which Is the same as that of each block already segmented in obtaining the SGLDM.
Effective interaction between user and device is considered an important ability of IoT devices. For some applications, it is necessary to recognize human facial expressions in real time and make accurate judgments in order to respond to situations correctly. Therefore, many researches on facial image analysis have been preceded in order to construct a more accurate and faster recognition system. In this study, we constructed an automatic recognition system for facial expressions through two steps - a facial recognition step and a classification step. We compared various models with different sets of data with pixel information, landmark coordinates, Euclidean distances among landmark points, and arctangent angles. We found a fast and efficient prediction model with only 30 principal components of face landmark information. We applied several prediction models, that included linear discriminant analysis (LDA), random forests, support vector machine (SVM), and bagging; consequently, an SVM model gives the best result. The LDA model gives the second best prediction accuracy but it can fit and predict data faster than SVM and other methods. Finally, we compared our method to Microsoft Azure Emotion API and Convolution Neural Network (CNN). Our method gives a very competitive result.

We in this paper propose the method for diagnosis patients through the reasoning based on the diagnosis ontology in oriental medicine. In prior studies, it is simply diagnosed with the information of main symptoms, optional symptoms, and tongue / pulse. In addition, ontology itself has subjective opinions of oriental medical doctors for patients in form of axioms. There is a problem in latter case that it is difficult for other oriental medical doctors to change knowledge within the ontology. In order to solve these problems, we have constructed the diagnosis ontology and the reasoning algorithm as followings: First, in order to raise the diagnosis accuracy, we constructed the diagnosis ontology with pattern identifications, main symptoms, optional symptoms, and tongue / pulse. We also utilize the diagnosis points described in the pathology textbook, which has been studied in all of domestic oriental medical colleges. This information is represented as OWL instances in ontology, not OWL axioms so that it can be easily updated. Second, we suggest the algorithms for diagnosis reasoning and learning method based on the ontology. We have implemented the reasoning and learning system according to the diagnosis algorithm. In future study, we will construct the diagnosis ontology with all of pattern identifications and symptoms within the pathology textbook.

In this paper, we propose an improved single view metrology (SVM) algorithm to accurately measure the height of objects. In order to accurately measure the size of objects, vanishing points have to be correctly estimated. There are two methods to estimate vanishing points. First, the user has to choose some horizontal and vertical lines in real world. Then, the user finds the cross points of the lines. Second, the user can obtain the vanishing points by using software algorithm such as [6-9]. In the former method, the user has to choose the lines manually to obtain accurate vanishing points. On the other hand, the latter method uses software algorithm to automatically obtain vanishing points. In this paper, we apply image resizing and edge sharpening as a pre-processing to the algorithm in order to improve performance. The estimated vanishing points algorithm create four vanishing point candidates: two points are horizontal candidates and the other two points are vertical candidates. However, a common image has two horizontal vanishing points and one vertical vanishing point. Thus, we eliminate a vertical vanishing point candidate by analyzing the histogram of angle distribution of vanishing point candidates. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms conventional methods, [6] and [7]. In addition, the algorithm obtains similar performance with manual method with less than 5% of the measurement error.
