  • The addition of poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS) to $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}$ solutions shifted the emission peak by 3 nm to red, and increased emission intensity by 1.8 times. By contrast, poly(vinylsulfonate) (PVS) had little effect on the fluorescence spectrum. The effects of PSS on the spectral properties of $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}$, were attributed to the presence of a hydrophobic phenyl group in PSS, which interact with $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}$ by, at least in part, hydrophobic effect. The binding constant of $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}$ to PSS in 0.1 M NaCl was $6{\times}10^4\;M^{-1}$, and this value was about $10^3$ times higher than those of methyl viologen ($MV^{2+}$) and $Cu^{2+}$. The Stern-Volmer constants of emission quenching of $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}$ by $MV^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ in 0.1 M NaCl solutions were 426 and 40 $M^{-1}$, which correspond to second order rate constants($k_q$) of $1.1{\times}10^9\;and\; 1.0{\times}10^8\;M^{-1}s^{-1}$, respectively. The presence of PSS enhanced $K_{SV's}\;by\;{\sim}50$ times, whereas PVS increased the values only 1-4 times. The large enhancing effect of PSS, despite of lower charge density than PVS, was explained in terms of longer life-time of photoexcited $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}$ bound to PSS and strong association of $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}$ to PSS due to a specific interaction involving hydrophobic effect. The variation of $K_{SV's}$ on the concentrations of PVS and PSS were also investigated for $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}-MV^{2+}\;and \;Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}-Cu^{2+}$ photoredox systems.

  • $AlFe_2B_2$ produced by using a conventional arc melter has a ferromagnetic material with a Curie temperature ($T_C$) of around 300 K, but the arc-melt generates paramagnetic $Al_{13}Fe_4$ impurities during the synthesis of $AlFe_2B_2$. Impurities are brought to cause a decrease in magnetocaloric effects (MCEs). To investigate the effects of $Al_{13}Fe_4$ impurities on MCEs, we prepared and compared ascast and acid-treated samples, where the acid treatment was performed to remove the $Al_{13}Fe_4$ impurities. For the structural analysis, powder X-ray diffraction was carried out, and the measured data were subjected to a Rietveld refinement. The presence of $Al_{13}Fe_4$ impurities in the as-cast sample was observed in the phase analysis measurements. Magnetic properties were investigated by using Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) measurements for the as-cast and the acid-treated $AlFe_2B_2$ samples. From isothermal magnetization measurements, Arrott plots were obtained showing that the transition of $AlFe_2B_2$ has a second-order magnetic phase transition (SOMT). The $T_C$ and the saturation magnetization increased for the acid-treated sample due to removal of the paramagnetic impurities. As a consequence, the magnetic entropy change ($-{\Delta}S$) increased in the pure $AlFe_2B_2$ samples, but the full width at half maximum in the plot of $-{\Delta}S$ vs. T decreased due to the absence of impurities.

Also, this research provide some strategic insights for improving business performance. In the proposed model, self-determination consists of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, and entrepreneurship consists of innovation, initiative and risk sensitivity, and proactiveness. More specifically, this study proposes a framework that entrepreneurship and operational performance will play mediating roles between self-determination and financial performance. Research design, data, methodology: In this study, an online survey was conducted on SME CEOs for analysis, and a total of 122 samples were used. In the analysis process for hypothesis verification and evaluation, frequency analysis was first performed to identify the demographic characteristics of the respondents, and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to assess the reliability and validity of the measurement model. In addition, a structural model analysis was conducted to examine the structural relationships between CEO's self-determination, entrepreneurship, and business performance (operational and financial performance) using SmartPLS 3.0. Results: The findings and summary are as follows. First, the autonomy of self-determination has a positive effect on entrepreneurship. Second, the competence of self-determination affects entrepreneurship and operational performance. Third, it affects the innovation, initiative and risk sensitivity of the CEO's entrepreneurship, and ultimately, its operational performance. The results show that the business performance of Start-up also increases when self-determination can be a factor in increasing entrepreneurship in three sub-dimensionalities. Conclusions: The conclusion of this study is that in order for SMEs to develop into a sustainable company by securing competitiveness after start-up, external motivation such as external help and support from the state (local government) is important, but competence and relationship, which are components of self-determination. The intrinsic motivation of the CEO may be more important. To this end, CEO's should prioritize learning for competency development, and the government should pay attention to providing various educational programs through establishment of education policies and education systems to enhance the competency of start-up CEO's.
