출생신고자료를 이용한 우리 나라 조산아 출생률의 계절변동 (Seasonal Variation of Pre-term Births in Korea)

  • Objectives : To investigate possible seasonal patterns of pre-term birth in Korea. Methods : A total number of 2,669,357 single live births reported to the National Statistical Office from 1995 to 1998 were analyzed. Composite monthly cohorts of ongoing pregnancies were constructed for each month of the year and the probability of pre-term birth was estimated. Results : Increases in the probability of a pre-term birth occurred during winter for the birth of first child and during summer for the birth of second or later child. This seasonal variation was similar among groups divided by sex, residency, age of mother, and education of mother. Conclusions : These findings suggests that some environmental factors related to season may partially explain the incidence of premature births.

  • An instrumental neutron activation analysis was used to measure the concentrations of about 24 elements associated with airborne particulates (PM10) that were collected in the most polluted urban region of Daejeon city, Korea from 2000 to 2002. Using the measurement data for various elements, both the extent of elemental pollution in the study area and the seasonality in their distribution characteristics were examined. Examinations of their distribution patterns indicated that most elements with crustal origin tend to exhibit seasonal peaks during spring, while most elements with anthropogenic origin tend to exhibit seasonal peaks during fall or winter. In order to explain the factors regulating their mobilization properties, the data were processed by a factor analysis. Results of the factor analysis suggested competing roles of both industrial and natural source processes, despite that the study site is located at a downwind position of the industrial complex. Based on the overall results of this study, it is concluded that the site may be strongly impacted by man-made sources but the general patterns of elemental distributions in the study area inspected over a seasonal scale are quite consistent with those typically observed from natural environment.

Seasonal Patterns of Sediment Supply to Coastal Foredune of Seungbong Island, Korea

  • The seasonal patterns of sediment supply were investigated during the period of June 1999 to June 2000 on a coastal foredune of Seungbong Island, Korea. Sediment supply was determined from measurements of geomorphic changes in the foredune and beach along six lines. Most sands were deposited on the dunefoot and foredune area during the winter and spring, from November to April. The largest amount of sands was deposited along the lines 5 and 6 near the sea-dike in the southern tip of the dune area. In general, the sand on the beach was gradually eroded in spring, summer and fall but deposited in winter. Total sediment accumulation over the study period was $484m^3$ for the foredune and $345m^3$ for the beach. The volume of the foredune increased in the winter and spring, whereas the volume of beach increased in the winter. Variation in sediment deposition appears to be controlled primarily by variations in the seasonal wind regime.

소리도 주변 해역 새우류의 종조성과 계절변동 (Species Composition and Seasonal Change of Shrimp Assemblage in the Coastal Waters of Sorido, Korea)

  • 소리도 주변해역에서 서식하는 새우류의 종조성과 계절변동을 파악하기 위하여 2000년 6월부터 2001년 5월까지 매월 1회씩 사리기간중 간조시에 채집하였다. 조사기간 동안 채집된 새우는 6과 16종이었으며, 그라비새우, Ρ. gravieri, 꽃새우, Τ. curvirostris, 마루자주새우, C. hakodatei, 중하, Μ. joyneri등이 연중 우점하였다. 월별 출현종수는 8월, 10월, 11월에 14종으로 가장 많이 출현하였으며, 하계인 6월과 7월에 각각 8, 10종으로 가장 적은 종이 출현하였다. 종다양도 지수는 0.14∼0.82의 범위를 나타내었으며, 5∼7월에는 비교적 낮은 값을 보였는데, 이는 균등도 지수에서도 마찬가지 결과였으며, 반면 9∼12월에는 비교적 높은 종다양도 지수 값을 보였다. 본 연구 해역에서 채집된 새우류는 출현 양상에 따라 주거종과 계절종, 일시방문종으로 나눌 수 있었다.

Global Patterns of Pigment Concentration, Cloud Cover, and Sun Glint: Application to the OSMI Data Collection Planning

  • To establish a monthly data collection planning for the Ocean Scanning Multispectral Imager (OSMI), we have examined the global patterns of three impacting factors: pigment concentration, cloud cover, and sun glint. Other than satellite mission constraints (e.g., duty cycle), these three factors are considered critical for the OSMI data collection. The Nimbus-7 Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS) monthly mean products and the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) monthly mean products (C2) were used for the analysis of pigment concentration and cloud cover distributions, respectively. And the monthly simulated patterns of sun glint were produced by performing the OSMI orbit prediction and the calculation of sun glint radiances at the top-of-atmosphere (TOA). Using monthly statistics (mean and/or standard deviation) of each factor in the above for a given 10$^{\circ}$ latitude by 10$^{\circ}$ longitude grid, we generated the priority map for each month. The priority maps of three factors for each month were subsequently superimposed to visualize the impact of three factors in all. The initial results illustrated that a large part of oceans in the summer hemisphere was classified into the low priority regions because of seasonal changes of clouds and sun illumination. Sensitivity tests were performed to see how cloud cover and sun glint affect the priority determined by pigment concentration distributions, and consequently to minimize their seasonal effects upon the data collection planning.

제주근해에 출현하는 현생 부유성 유공충 종과 계절변화 (Occurrence of Modern Planktonic Foraminiferal Species and their Seasonal Variations around Jeju Island, Korea)

  • To investigate the occurrence of modern living planktonic foraminiferal species and their seasonal variations around Jeju Island, we conducted planktonic foraminiferal sampling at KIOST's regular sampling sites during 16 months. In total seven genus and 16 modern planktonic foraminiferal species were identified with six dominant species. Dominant species were Gloigerinoides sacculifer, Globigerinoides ruber, Globigerina bulloides, Noegloboquadrina dutertrei, Pulleniatina obliquiloculata, and Globorotalia inflata. Most of the species were characterized as being typical subtropical species and showed seasonal variations and/or intermittent occurrence from season to season. The occurrence of living foraminifera revealed a strong relationship with water temperature, but not with salinity. Species succession seems to occur along with water temperature changes. Some patch distribution and water temperature dependences appear to be significant since there is a high degree of variation in the occurrence patterns of species and standing stock. More detailed quantitative study is necessary to confirm the species diversity and seasonal variations of planktonic foraminifera and related ocean environmental changes.

  • We report the seasonal prevalence of the mycoplasmal pneumoniae of swine (MPS) in slaughter pigs from July of 1999 to June of 2000. Gross finding of lung lesion observed and examined by dot-ELISA. In gross finding of lung lesion from 750 pig samples, 465 (62.0%) was MPS, and 129 (17.2%) was single or double infection with actinobacillosis and pasturellosis. However, 156 (20.8%) had no lesion. In seasonal detection, the prevalence was found to be winter (69.5%), autumn (63.5%), summer (60.0%) and spring (54.7%) in orderly frequency.   • Objectives : The study designed to analyze annual, seasonal tendency of outpatients in ophthalmology & otolaryngology & dermatology clinic of Korean Medical hospital from 2012 to 2016. Methods : We investigated annual, seasonal population-social characteristics such as sex or age, departmental characteristics such as ophthalmology, otolaryngology, dermatology, many others, main diagnosis, cost characteristics of treatment period and frequency of treatment those who were received treatment as outpatients in Dunsan Korean Medical Hospital ophthalmology & otolaryngology & dermatology clinic from March 2012 to March 2016. The data was obtained from EMR chart, and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 19.0. Results : We analyzed population-social characteristics, utilization of new patients in the year, in the season, and we obtained various results. Conclusions : In the analysis of annual, seasonal utilization patterns that outpatients offered in ophthalmology & otolaryngology & dermatology clinic of Korean Medical hospital from 2012 to 2016, the report draws 3 different conclusions.

한반도 서해안과 남해안의 반페쇄된 만에서 조간대 퇴적물의 계절변화에 관한 비교 연구: 서해안의 함평만과 남해안의 광양만 (Seasonal Variation Patterns of Tidal Flat Sediments in Semi-enclosed Hampyong and Kwangyang Bays, West and South Coasts of Korea)

  • 한반도 서해안과 남해안에 위치한 반폐쇄된 함평만과 광양만에서 조간대 퇴적물의 계절변화를 조사하기 위하여 2${\sim}$4년 동안 입도와 집적률에 대한 모니터링을 실시하였다. 함평만 조간대의 경우, 니질조간대에서는 겨울에 퇴적되고 여름에 침식되는 반면, 혼합조간대에서는 여름에 퇴적되고 겨울에 침식되는 상반된 경향을 보였다. 이와 같은 현상은 함평만 조간대에서는 일차적으로 몬순계절풍에 의한 파랑의 발달과 조간대 지형이 퇴적물의 계절변화에 중요한 요소로 작용하기 때문이다. 그러나 광양만 조간대에서는 가을과 겨울, 봄에 퇴적되고 여름에 침식되어 함평만 조간대와는 다른 양상을 보였다. 이와 같은 현상은 광양만 조간대는 함평만 조간대와는 달리 지형적 특징에 따라 파랑의 발달이 제한되어 상대적으로 창조우세의 조류가 중요한 요소로 작용하기 때문이다. 그러나 여름에는 간헐적으로 발생하는 태풍과 폭우가 조간대의 침식을 가속화하며, 이러한 태풍과 폭우는 파랑의 발달이 제한된 남해안의 반폐쇄된 조간대에서 여름 동안 중요한 침식유발 요인으로 작용할 것으로 생각된다.

Tall fescue 품종의 환경적응성 VI. 계절생산성의 품종간 차이 (Environmental Adaptation of Tall Fescue varieties in Mauntainous pastures VI. Varietal Differences in seasonal produntion)

  • This experiment was undertaken to study the relationship between dry weight of plant(DW) and yield components. varietal differences in seasonal production at each of three cutting. and to classiQ them into some patterns of seasonal production in tall fescue varieties. The varieties examined were Barvetia. Fuego, Demeter. Safe, Barcel. Forager, Johnstone. Enforcer and Stef. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The Fuego and Barcel with high number of tiller per plant(NT) which had more dry wieght of plant(DW) than those of varieties with low number of tillers per plant(NT) at each cutting. 2. The dry weight of plant(DW) in 1st cutting indicated positive significant correlation with the number of tillers per plant(NT) and dry weight of a tiller(WT). But there was only positive correlation between the number of tillers per plant(NT) and dry weight of plant(DW) in 2nd and 3rd cutting. 3. Mean relative yield of each cutting were 3 1 %. 29.7% and 39.3% in 1st. 2nd and 3rd cutting, respectively. 4. Tall fescue varieties could be classified into 3 different seasonal growth patterns according to their mode of relative yield at each cutting. Barvetia, Fuego, Johnstone. Enforcer and Stef belong to the group of ABA with high relative yield in 1st and 3rd cutting. Demeter, Safe and Forager belong to the group of CBA with relative yield increased linearly up to 3rd cutting. And, Barcel belong to the group of BAB with high relative yield in 2nd cutting.
