  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of seasonal change in characteristics of hygiene activity on domestic hot water energy consumption. With 16 residents of 4 households, the data about frequency of hygiene activity and water temperature was collected from February to August, 2017. The results of collected data discovered that the frequency of hygiene activity was higher especially in summer, whereas the consumption of warm water they used was higher in winter. The seasonal change in characteristics of hygiene activity was analyzed to be changed and strongly influenced by outdoor temperature. The influence of characteristics of hygiene activity on hot water consumption was analyzed. There was 13% of difference between consumption that was calculated taking characteristics of hygiene activity into account and consumption that was not. Therefore, this study suggested hygiene activity schedule, hot water profile and hot water consumption pattern, which can be utilized for improving simulation as well.

  • This study investigated the relation between seasonal variation of clothing weight and its resting metabolic rate to determine the relation between proper living temperature and cold/heat tolerance. Thirty six subjects(18 males and females twenties) were composed to obtain the clothing weight(Total clothing weight) and resting metabolic rate for a year and grouped four seasons : spring (Mar-May) Summer(Jun-Aug) Fall(Sep-Nov) and Winter(Dec-Feb). The data of males and females were respectively divided into three groups by cluster analysis with clothing weight. 1. The resting metabolic rate of male(41.1kcal/m2/hr) was higher than that of female(33.2kcal/m2/hr). It is suggested there is gender difference in the resting metabolic rate(p<.001) 2. The resting metabolic rate of male and female was the highest in Winter. It is suggested there is seasonal variation in the resting metabolic rate(p<.001) 3. It was found that there was relation between clothing weight and resting metabolic rate. The difference of resting metabolic rate between Summer and Winter which is profitable to adaptation to living temperature was significant in light clothing weight in male as well as in female. 4. In comfortable sensation most subjects responded that he/she felt 'comfortable' except Winter. However the heavy clothing weight group felt 'a little uncomfortable' throughout all seasons. l In thermal sensation most subjects responded that he/she felt 'neutral' And then the heavy clothing weight group responded warmer in summer and cooler in winter than light clothing weight group. From the results it was confirmed that male and female showed seasonal variations in clothing weight and resting metabolic rate. Also the resting metabolic rate of male and female was influenced by the clothing weight. In short seasonal variation of resting metabolic rate was larger in light clothing weight group than in heavy clothing weight group. Therefore light clothing weight group is advantgeous in living temperature to improve cold/heat tolerance and it also shows that living with the light clothing weight may enhance the degree of adaptation to change of living environment

  • This study was investigated to the seasonal variation of attached diatoms communities in the Hantan River in November 2001, February, Ma and August 2002. It was identified the total 107 taxa which were composed of 95 species, 11 varieties and 1 unidentified speCies. The standing crops ranged 298,5004,776,000cells${\cdot}cm^{-2}.$and showed marked irregularly seasonal variations. It was higher value at the lower station than the upper station in fall. But it was similar values from the upper to the lower station by the effect of typhoon in summer. Chlorophyll concentrations ranged $13.4~304.2{\mu}m{\cdot}cm^{-2}.$ Standing crops and chlorophyll showed similar trends during investigation. Low diversity index values probably indicated the effects of envi~onmental stresses(water temperature, flow and current velocity) other than organic pollution. An assessment of organic pollution using epilithic diatoms(DAlpo) was $\alpha$-oligosaprobic states at the upper and mid stations, and was $\alpha$-mesosaprobic states at the lower stations.

  • This is the first report describing the seasonal conditions affecting shoot regeneration by the chrysanthemum cv. Baeksun. The shoot regeneration from petal explants was found to be more favorable from September to December, reaching the highest values in December. In addition, the quality of the shoots was also influenced according to the season of the explant collection, where healthy and uniform plants were derived from the explants collected in December. Choosing the proper season for explant collection affected the successive plant growth parameters (i.e., plant height and fresh weight). Thus, the current results strongly suggest that season plays an important role in plant tissue culturing, which is an essential tool for micropropagation and Agro-bacterium-mediated genetic transformation studies.

  • A study on the seasonal changes in the phytoplankton community was carried out in four aquaculture ponds of Bangladesh over a period of 16 months from August 2000 to November 2001. Out of 45 phytoplankton species identified, 30 belong to Cyanophyceae, 7 to Chlorophyceae, 5 to Bacillariophyceae and 3 to Euglenophyceae. The highest phytoplankton abundance was observed in spring followed by early autumn, summer, and the lowest was in winter. The annual succession of Cyanophyceae was characterized by spring and early autumn period dominated by Microcystis sp. Anabaena sp. and Planktolymbya sp. with Microcystis sp. as the main blue-green algae represented. Chlorophyceae was characterized by rainy season domination of Chlorella vulgaris, Pediastrum sp. and Scenedesmus denticulatus with maximum abundance of Chlorella vulgaris. Whereas Bacillariophyceae was dominant during the winter period. Navicula angusta and Cyclotella meneghiniana were the most frequently occurring species of Bacillariophyceae throughout the study period. Euglenophyceae was dominant in late autumn and Euglena sp. was the dominant species. The effect of various physicochemical water quality parameters on the seasonal distribution and succession of the above mentioned phytoplankton population as well as the interaction and eutrophication are discussed.

  • In order to find the effect of intertidal sediments on nutrient cycle in coastal environment, we measured ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, and silicate concentrations every hour during at least 12 hours in the entrance of Keunso Bay during four seasons. The content of ammonia and silicate do not change considerably with season, but nitrate shows large seasonal variation. In summer, nitrate concentration was much lower than in other seasons, which resulted from large biological uptake and active denitrification in intertidal sediments during summer. Phosphate also exhibit seasonal variations, but not that large like nitrate. N/P and N/Si ratios were lower in summer than in other seasons, which was due to active denitrification in the intertidal sediments during summer. For all seasons, ammonia concentrations were higher at low tide than at high tide, but nitrate concentrations were higher at high tide. Dissolved inorganic nitrogen concentrations measured in spring, summer, and winter were higher at high tide than at low tide, but in fall, they were higher at low tide than at high tide. For spring and winter, phosphate and silicate concentrations were higher at low tide than at high tide, while in summer and fall, they were higher at high tide than at low tide. In Keunso Bay, intertidal sediments affect significantly the nutrient cycle around the coastal areas. The intertidal sediments act as a source for ammonia and silicate, but as a sink for nitrate. However, phosphate is not considerably influenced by intertidal sediments.

  • It was measured the energy expenditure in each season, the cold tolerance in winter and the heat tolerance in summer. Farmers' adaptability to the change of environment was compared with those of city-dwellers such as indoor workers and street cleaners to determine the effect of living environment, especially living temperature, on the health of human body. It turned out that farmers had experienced wide range of temperature that was higher in summer and lower in winter than indoor workers. Farmers and street cleaners showed seasonal adaptation in energy expenditure, which was high in winter and low in summer. However, indoor workers did not show seasonal changes. Energy expenditure had an inverse correlation with the temperature in work place where subjects spend the longer time in a day except in female indoor workers in Seoul. And It was proved that farmers and street cleaners had stronger cold tolerance and heat tolerance than indoor workers.

  • The study is conducted to evaluate loading of organic matter as seasonal changes during non-storm period into Lake Paldang which is used to a major drinking water source. Samples were taken in Lake Paldang intake during non-storm period and were analyzed loading of organic matter. From the results of the survey, improving of the water quality showed remarkable tendency depending on the changing periods from summer to fall and from fall to winter. Dilution effect from the increase of base run-off caused by the concentrated rainfall in rainy season, the characteristics of Korea's climate seems to have to be the reason. On the other hand, deteriorating of the water quality showed tendency depending on the changing periods from winter to spring and from spring to summer. Increase of Cyanobacteria etc. is explained by seasonal effects which are a small amount of the rainfall in winter and spring and gradational increase of water temperature.
