Anterior Talofibular Ligament and Superior Extensor Ankle Retinaculum Thicknesses: Relationship with Balance

  • Purpose: This study determined if anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL)/superior extensor ankle retinaculum (SEAR) thicknesses are related to dynamic balance in individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI). Materials and Methods: The subjects were 14 males and 15 females (age=24.52±3.46 years). Ankle instability was assessed using the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT) with a cut off score of 25 to define two groups. SonoSite MTurbo (Fugifilm Sonosite, Inc.) musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) unit was used to assess ATFL and SEAR thicknesses. Dynamic balance was measured with the Y Balance Test (YBT) and two NeuroCom balance tests. Results: There were no significant differences in the average ATFL thickness between stable and unstable ankles in those subjects with CAI (0.25±0.03 cm and 0.21±0.05 cm, respectively) or in the SEAR thickness (0.09±0.04 cm and 0.10±0.03 cm, respectively). There were also no significant differences in the right and left ATFL thicknesses (0.23±0.07 cm and 0.21±0.04 cm, respectively) or the SEAR thicknesses (0.09±0.01 cm and 0.09±0.01 cm, respectively) in those without CAI. There were no differences between limbs in composite scores on YBT in those with CAI (p=0.35) and those without CAI (p=0.33). There was a moderate correlation between the left SEAR thickness and the large forward/backward perturbations on the NeuroCom (Natus) motor control test (r=0.51, p=0.006 and r=0.54, p=0.003, respectively). Conclusion: There were no differences in the ATFL/SEAR thicknesses or balance measures between or within the groups, likely because CAI is multi-factorial and related to mechanisms other than tissue changes alone. More sensitive technology and a better definition of the measurement process may provide more definitive results.

양이온-비이온 혼합계면활성제의 첨가가 영가철을 이용한 TCE환원에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Surfactant on Reductive Dechlorination of Trichloroethylene by Zero-Valent Iron)

  • 트리클로로에틸렌(trichloroethyele, TCE)는 지하 환경으로 누출되었을 경우 대표적인 고밀도 불용성 유체(dense non aqueous phase liquids, DNAPLs)를 형성하여 토양과 지하수를 오염시키며, 계면활성제를 이용한 SEAR(Surfactant-enhanced aquifer remediation) 공법으로 처리를 하여도 소량이 계면활성제와 함께 지하수에 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 SEAR공법으로 처리 후 잔존하는 TCE가 계면활성제와 함께 존재할 때, 영가철(zero valent iron, ZVI)로 이루어진 투수성 반응벽체(PRB)에서의 TCE 거동을 조사하였다. 특히 계면활성제의 독성과 반응속도의 영향을 고려하여 양이온과 비이온 혼합 계면활성제의 영향을 중점적으로 다루었다. 혼합 계면활성제를 사용할 경우 ZVI를 이용한 TCE의 분해는 계면활성제의 구조에 따라 상당히 다른 경향을 보였다. TCE의 제거율을 살펴보면 비이온 계면활성제의 친수성기인 polyoxyethylene(POE) 사슬이 짧을 경우 양이온 계면활성제와 상관없이 거의 일정하였고, 상대적으로 긴 POE사슬일 경우 양이온 계면활성제의 종류와 첨가량에 따라 차이가 발생하였다. 친수성기가 트리메틸암모늄 (trimethylammonium)인 양이온 계면활성제가 피리디늄(pyridinium)를 가지는 양이온 계면활성제보다 더 높은 TCE 제거율을 보였다. 이러한 연구결과는 SEAR 후처리를 위해 PRB 적용시 잔존하는 계면활성제의 영향을 살펴보았으며 실제 현장적용의 중요한 자료로 이용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • 유기물에 의한 지하수 자원의 오염이 중요한 환경 문제로 대두되고 있다. 계면활성제 증진 대수층 복원(SEAR)은 유기 오염물에 대하여 가장 유망한 원위치 복원법 중 하나로 인식되고 있다. 계면활성제 또는 계면활성제/폴리머 용액은 복원 프로세스를 촉진시켜 물 세척 시보다 처리 시간을 크게 감소시킨다. 유기물로 오염된 대수층 복원을 위하여 계면활성제 기반의 처리법을 설계할 때 충분한 수치 시뮬레이션을 통한 사전 분석이 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 3차원 다상 다성분 유한 차분 모델인 UTCHEM을 이용하여 유기물 오염 대수층에 대한 SEAR 과정 중 미세에멀젼의 형성과 유동을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 고려한 복원 프로세스 변수로는 주입 유체의 배열, 유체 주입 및 추출율, 계면활성제 슬러그 및 추격수 내 폴리머 농도, 계면활성제 슬러그 주입 시간 등이다. 각 변수에 대하여 주입 및 생산정에서의 변화와 유기상의 공간적 분포를 비교하였다. 이 결과로부터 정화 시간 및 누적 유기물 회수량을 검토하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 비수상 액체로 오염된 대수층의 정화 시 설계 전략을 수립하는데 중요한 정보를 제공한다.

  • In press forming of sheet metals, the material sheet is usually subjected to very large plastic strain under in-plane stressing. Moreover, the sheet also very often is subjected to out-of-plane compressive force between tools such as the upper and lower dies, the blank holder and the die, and so forth. In this paper, it is clearly demonstrated theoretically that out-of-plane stress may notably raise the forming limit strain and thus it cm be effectively utilized to avoid earlier fracture of the sheet in press forming.

VPA를 이용한 트랙터 좌석 진동의 전달 특성 구명 (Investigation of Transmission Characteristics of Tractor Seat Vibrations Using Vibration Path Analysis Method)

  • This work was intended to investigate the effect of vibration transmission paths on the ride vibration of tractor during the rotavating and transporting operations by applying the vibration path analysis method. Accelerations at the cab mounts were measured during the rotavating and transporting operations. Ride vibrations at the sear were than calculated using the measured accelerations at the cab mounts, and the frequency response functions and inertances between the seat and cab mounts, which were derived experimentally by the impact hammer test in static condition. The human sensitivity to vibration frequency was also taken into consideration for the calculation of ride vibrations at the 1/3 octave center frequencies in the frequency domain. Vibrations transmitted through rear cab mounts affected more significantly the ride vibration of tractor. The peak accelerations at the seat occurred at the frequencies of the engine and crank speed, and the frequency induced by tire lugs on the road transportation. It was found that the rear cab mounts should be improved in order to reduce the ride vibrations more effectively.

  • In this paper, elastic deformations of several gear teeth are analyzed. The contact between a gear and pinion is modeled as a contact problem. The deformation overlap, which is defined as the interference due to deformation of gear teeth, is defined to represent the deformation characteristics of profile shifted spur sear system. The calculated deformation overlap shows teeth interference in the deformed state of a Rear system.

  • Estimation of damping ratio for vibration signals measured on the passenger car's sear is useful for the objective evaluation of impact harshness in car. The vibratio signal is a transient signal represented by many coupled modes of suspension system. Wavelet transform automatically decouples these modes in the time-frequency domain. Damping ratios for decoupled modes are obtained by logarithmic treatment for the Wavelet transformed signal. The objective evaluation using Wavelet transform has been well corresponded with subjective evaluation done by skilled engineers.

  • The paper deals with the implementation of prototype Risk Visualization Sytem (RVS). The RVS is one of the sub-system of Risk Management System (RMS) of National Maritime Police Agency in Korea. In this work, prototype RVS was constructed with virtual reality techniques. Using the prototype RVS, we carried out some performance tests for the various environmental conditions at sea. As results from tests, the prototype RVS can provide immersible virtual world. The results gave rise to the user interaction with 3D objects that give realistic reproduction of sear environments. Thus, we found that the prototype RVS should be a immersible visualization system of Risk Management System.

차동 링기어 방식의 고비율 유성기어 감속기 개발 (Development of High-Ratio Planetary Reduction Gears Applied Differential Ring Gear Type)

  • Automation facilities of greenhouses have been continuously developed. However, the conventional two-stage worm gear reducer reveals some problems, including low transmission efficiency. The worm gear reducer also have some difficulties in manufacturing and short life. Therefore, this study was performed to develop a planetary gear reducer, having a high Sear reduction ratio and high torque transmission efficiency. The planetary gear system consisted of a fixed ring gear and a 2-teeth differential ring gear turning slow, as the planetary pinion orbits fast around the fixed ring gear. The developed gear system can achieve a high speed reduction rate at one stage. The reducing system was employed to the greenhouse ventilation system. The reducer has the transmission efficiency of 70.5%, 2∼3 times longer life time, and twofold roll-up torque at an affordable price, comparing with conventional reducers. This reducer can be also applied to many industrial equipments, such as industrial crane, hoist, elevator and gondola etc.
