In this study, axial vibration analysis has been conducted on a propulsion and lift shafting system for an air cushion vehicle using ANSYS code. The shafting system is totally flexible multi-elements system including wood composite material of air propeller. aluminum alloy of lift fan and thin walled shaft with flexible coupling. The analysis calculated the axial natural frequencies and mode shapes of the shafting system taking into account an equivalent mass-elastic model for shafting system as well as the three-dimensional models for propeller blade and fan impeller. Such a flexible shafting system has very intricate vibrating characteristics and especially, axial natural frequencies of flexible components such as propeller blade and impeller of lift fan can be lower to the extent that causes a resonance in the range of operating revolution. The results for axial vibration analysis are presented and compared with the results of axial vibration test for lift fan conducted during Sea Trial.
Successful field test results for high-current time-lapse electrical imaging in marine sediments area are discussed. Because field trial by commercially available equipments were failed, self-developed system which supports transmitting current up to 5 ampere was used. Some weak zones due to local fractures were detected, but the weak zone effect in this area by time-lapse measurements from sea level change was minor.

As the increase of the fuel oil price, the demand for saving of the ship running cost is growing. To meet the needs of the shipowners, the method for low load operation has been developed by engine licenser. As one of low load operation, the turbocharger cut-out system can be utilized flexibly both full and part load operation. It can be possible to optimize fuel consumption at both full and part load operation. Tests by engine licenser with 12K98MC engine have proven that the fuel oil consumption can be reduced approximately 5%. In this paper we will study the application of main engine turbocharger cut-out system onboard a vessel. One of four turbochargers with MAN Diesel & Turbo 12K98MC-C and 12K98ME-C engine is cut out with swing gate valve. The fuel oil consumption is measured during sea trial and engine shop test.
In active sonar system, clutters degrade performance of target detection/tracking and overwhelm sonar operators in ASW (Antisubmarine Warfare). Conventional clutter reduction algorithms using consistency of local peaks are studied in multi-ping data and tracking filter research for active sonar was conducted. However these algorithms cannot classify target and clutters in single ping data. This paper suggests a single ping clutter reduction approach to reduce clutters in mid-frequency active sonar system using echo shape features. The algorithm performance test is conducted using real sea-trial data in heavy clutter density environment. It is confirmed that the number of clutters was reduced by about 80 % over the conventional algorithm while retaining the detection of target.

Heavy-weight high speed underwater vehicle(HSUV) is launched from the submerged mother ship. For the safety point of view, it is important to confirm whether the HSUV would touch the launching mother ship. In this paper, the hydrodynamic force and moment were modeled by the polynomials of motion variables and the simple lift and drag acting on a plate and cylinder which consist of the HSUV's several parts. The mother ship was assumed as the Rankine half body to consider the flow field near the moving ship. Such hydrodynamic force and moment were included in the 6 DOF equations of motion of the HSUV and the dynamic simulations for the various conditions of the HSUV until the propeller activation were performed. Developed simulation program is expected to reduce the number of expensive sea trial test to develop safety logic of the HSUV at the initial firing stage.

This paper represents the hull form development of a high speed container ship based on the thin ship theory, Hess & Smith method, the reference ship data and model test results. The high efficiency propeller designed by the lifting surface theory shows good performance in the cavitation and the pressure fluctuation force. Also, the optimum design technique based on the finite element method was adopted for the hull structure design and the hull vibration analysis. Finally, the performance of a newly developed container ship has been compared with the sea trial results and the excellent performance in speed, vibration, etc. was confirmed.

A study was conducted to investigate the propeller singing place of an 86, 000 ton Deadweight Crude Oil Tanker. In preliminary study, proper use of finite element analysis was verified by comparing with the result of hammering test in the air. Then the finite element analysis was carried out for the blade in the water and compared with the noise measurement during sea trial, which enabled to confirm the local resonances of blade structure. Result of the study showed that the singing occurred most probably at trailing edges on the blade tip over 95% of propeller diameter. Owing to edge cutting of a successfoul remdial action, the singing excitation forces seemed to be reduced whereas the vibration characteristics of the blade was not changed.

The prediction of wave conditions is crucial in the field of marine and ocean engineering. Hence, this study aims to predict the significant wave height through machine learning (ML), a soft computing method. The adopted metocean data, collected from 2012 to 2020, were obtained from the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology. We adopted the feedforward neural network (FNN) and long-short term memory (LSTM) models to predict significant wave height. Input parameters for the input layer were selected by Pearson correlation coefficients. To obtain the optimized hyperparameter, we conducted a sensitivity study on the window size, node, layer, and activation function. Finally, the significant wave height was predicted using the FNN and LSTM models, by varying the three input parameters and three window sizes. Accordingly, FNN (W48) (i.e., FNN with window size 48) and LSTM (W48) (i.e., LSTM with window size 48) were superior outcomes. The most suitable model for predicting the significant wave height was FNN(W48) owing to its accuracy and calculation time. If the metocean data were further accumulated, the accuracy of the ML model would have improved, and it will be beneficial to predict added resistance by waves when conducting a sea trial test.

Shipbuilders carry out the operation test to check the conditions of the main propulsion system and auxiliaries for moored vessel in the quoy before the sea trial. The estimation of the thrust and torque for the partially submerged propeller should be prepared to ensure the safety of mooring line and the ship. In this paper, the variations of the thrust and torque according to the shaft submergence and the propeller rotating speed in bollard pull condition are investigated with the model test and the numerical analysis. Based on these resaearch, the empirical formula representing the physical phenomena of the partially submerged propeller is derived and validated through comparison to measurement results of full-scale propellers under the quoy operation test.

Effect of dietary inclusion of various sources of green tea on growth, immune system and challenging test of juvenile olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus was investigated. Five experimental diets with triplicates were prepared: control, raw leaves, dry leaves, by-product and extract. Twenty five (an initial body weight of 52.5 g) were randomly distributed into 15 of 180 L flow-through tanks. Nutrient requirements of the experimental diets satisfied growth of juvenile olive flounder. The feeding trial lasted for 7 weeks. After 7-week feeding trial, blood were sampled from three randomly chosen fish for serum analysis of Iysozyme and bactericidal activity, and ten fish were infected with Edwardsiella tarda for challenging test from each tank. Weight gain (g/fish) of fish fed the diet containing extract and control diet was significantly higher than that of fish fed the other diets. Feed efficiency ratio for fish fed the diet containing extract and control diet was significantly higher than that for fish fed the diets containing raw leaves and by-product, but not significantly different from that for fish fed the diet containing dry leaves. Serum Iysozyme activity (units/ml) of fish fed the diets containing dry leaves and extract was significantly higher than that of fish fed the diets containing raw leaves and by-product, but not significantly different from that of fish fed the control diet. Serum bactericidal activity (${\times}10^6$ bacteria/ml) of fish fed the diet containing dry leaves and extract was significantly lower than that of fish fed the diets containing raw leaves, by-product and control diet in 3 hour. However, serum bactericidal activity of fish fed the diet containing extract was significantly lower than that of fish fed the other diets in 6 hour. And serum bacterial activity was low in fish fed the diets containing dry and raw leaves, by-product, and control in 6 hour in order. Accumulative mortality (%) of fish fed the control diet was low compared to that of fish fed the diets containing raw leaves and by-product, but high compared to that of fish fed the diets containing dry leaves and extract although no significant difference was found among treatments. In considering above results, dietary inclusion of extract and dry leaves of green tea seemed to be highly effective to improve immune system and endurance against E. tarda infection of juvenile olive flounder.
