  • This study examined teachers' perceptions about the components of the teacher's capacity according to the 4th industrial revolution. This study involved 100 elementary school teachers: 26 with less than 5 years of educational experience, 24 with more than 5 but less than 10 years, 25 with more than 10 but less than 20 years, and 25 with more than 20 years. From the results of recognition analyses of six competence components, 'Knowledge and application ability of knowledge information', 'ability to appropriately study content', 'collaboration ability among school members', 'ability to maintain relationship', 'value and attitude required for community', 'ability to communicate with others' were found to be important for teachers. The result of analyzing the importance and the retention of each competency element showed that the recognition difference according to the education career and the degree of retention was insufficient compared to most important competence component. Thus, in-service education and training programs must reflect the competencies required by actual teachers in education and education-teacher training institutions.

  • This research investigated recognitions on outside and inside electrodes in an electric circuit supplied by a galvanic cell, through survey and interview of teachers studying in Departments of Physics Education and Chemistry Education at H University Graduate School. Physics majors' designations on outside or inside parts of electrodes in a galvanic cell were different from Chemistry majors'. Teachers who had majored in physics had difficulties on the inside electrode of a galvanic cell, while teachers who had majored in chemistry had difficulties on the outside electrode. Reasonings for designations of electrodes were attributed to direction of electric current in case of physics teachers and redox in case of chemistry teachers, respectively, which are strongly dependent on backgrounds performed in their undergraduate course.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the change in the classes of beginning science teachers through the collaborative mentoring program that induce reflective thinking practice. Participants in this study were three mentor-teachers, two teachers in doctor's or master's course, one university professor, and three mentee-teachers who have less than four years of teaching experience. We collected data such as video recordings of the mentee-teachers' classroom teaching and transcription, lesson plans, recording of one-on-one mentoring and transcription, mentor and mentee's journals, and RTOP classroom teaching observation reports. RTOP was used for the analysis of classroom teaching and mentee-teachers' recognition and changes in their classes were found out through journals and one-on-one mentoring interview materials. According to mentee-teachers' recognition and changes in their classes during the mentoring program, they themselves recognized their teacher-centered teaching style, misconception, and lack of content knowledge. Furthermore, there were changes in the mentee-teachers' classroom teaching through their reflective practice and improvement. As a result of this study, the interactions with mentor-teachers through collaborative mentoring program stimulated mentee-teacher's reflections on their teaching. Therefore, these reflections led to their reflective practice that showed progressive changes in their teaching behavioral activities. The extent of these changes varied according to the mentee-teachers' individual disposition toward reflection and the issue of whether mentee-teachers' reflective practice was in accordance with priorities in motivational ZDP or not. Also based on the results of this study, the teachers' reflection was not all accompanied by reflective practice even if the beginning science teachers made some partial changes in reflective practice through reflection. It means that it is hard to lead reflective practice for mentee-teachers through mentoring in a short period of time. Therefore, we consider that a systematic and long-term mentoring program is necessary for beginning science teachers.

  • The purpose of this study was to search for effective strategies on teaching open-inquiry by comparing students' and teachers' recognition of its difficulties and helpful strategies. This study focused on the cases of science high school students and their teachers, who carried out open-inquiry to participate in KYPT. This research was conducted through participant observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The research findings were as follows: students stated that planning and doing experiments were the most difficult parts, whereas teachers viewed that their students had difficulties in analyzing data and making a conclusion. With respect to the effective strategy, students stated that they gained many ideas from peer discussions although they have had to carry out their individual tasks. On the contrary, teachers thought that reference materials and the discussions with teachers were most helpful. There were clear differences between students' and their teachers' recognition toward open-inquiry and the gap needs to be closed. Consequently, it would be useful to guide students to form teams and to spend more time in peer discussions especially when doing experiments and to encourage teachers to understand students' actual difficulties and needs.

  • The purpose of this study is to observe, to analyze of the preservice teachers' naive theories about the change of season. And it is to find a instruction strategy which can solve problem about this. The general idea about the change of season is observed by the 3 methods which are simply explaining with words, explaining with pictures and models. The author is to find the similarity. difference and relationship which the preservice teachers have about the general idea about the change of season. The important changable primary factors, which can effect to the general Idea formation, are naturally dragged out through the observation of preservice teachers participation. For this study, 4 first year preservice teachers of one of national university of education are used. Before the interview. the author tries to form rapport with the preservice teachers. Experiment materials, pencil. paper, camcorder, digital recorder and interview note were used for the study with reflection of them just way they are. As the result of the interview. all of 4 preservice teachers had not being understand the concept about the change of season and the three ways of explanation methods were not matched each other, so it is revealed that the general Idea of the change of season, which the preservice teachers have, is not strongly formed. In spite of the repeated study of the change of season from elementary school to university, it has many problem about recognition of the general idea about the change of season which pre-elementary teachers have. Therefore it is needed to improve the experiment in elementary science text book and naive theories by the activity which is explaining the change of season in three dimension space. to prevent the naive theories which the preservice teachers may have.

  • In most child-care facilities, homeroom teachers take the responsibilities for safety education, which has been conducted in class hours on a regular basis. It was found that most homeroom teachers are lacking in teacher training opportunities, and the younger they are, the less training experience they get. Teachers with fewer teaching careers had a greater interest in safety education and training courses. In addition, homeroom teachers have been utilizing monthly toddler magazines as a method to acquire knowledges for safety education and prevention of safety accidents. The safety accidents which have most frequently occurred in care-care facilities turned out to be stumble and tear, and infants aged 3 years or younger were found to be easily exposed to the safety accidents mainly due to the frolic between peers during the free-choice activity time. The homeroom teachers recognized only traffic safety education among the range of safety training courses, which varied depending on teaching career such as traffic safety education and indoor/outdoor safety environment training, etc. In addition, it turned out that the safety training methods were limited to the utilization of discussion techniques, role-playing, description and demonstration.
