대학 강의 질 개선을 위한 강의 평가 문항 분석 - 서울대학교 이공계열 교양과목을 중심으로 - (Analysis on Evaluation Inquiry of Lectures for the Improvement on University Lecture Quality - Focused on Liberal Art Courses of Engineering and Science Schools at SNU -)

  • 대학의 교육경쟁력 강화가 곧 국가경쟁력 강화와 연계된다. 서울대학교는 그간 대학교육의 경쟁력 향상을 위하여 여러 방안을 시행하여 왔으며 그 중 대표적인 한 방법이 강의 질의 개선을 위한 강의평가라고 할 수 있다. 현재 대학에서 시행되고 있는 강의평가는 학생과 교수가 평가의 주체가 되지 못할 뿐 아니라 대학의 본부나 평가 위원회에서 개설된 강좌나 담당교수에 대한 평가로 사용하고 있다. 이때 잘못된 강의평가 방식을 사용할 경우 강의평가가 원 목적인 교수와 학생과의 대화증진으로 인한 강의 개선의 역할보다는 강의 평가 점수를 이용한 강좌의 서열화 및 교수의 업적 평가의 용도만 사용될 우려가 있다. 본 연구에서는 강의의 서열화나 교수의 업적 평가를 위한 강의 평가가 아닌, 교육의 효과를 높이는데 기여할 수 있는 강의 평가 방식을 연구하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 서울대학교 교수들을 대상으로 현재 시행중인 강의평가방식에 대 한 의견을 조사하고, 국내 대학에서 활용하고 있는 강의평가 방식과 평가 문항을 분석하였다. 특히 서울대학교 이공계열 교양과목을 평가하기 위하여 활용하는 수강소감서 문항을 분석하고 현재 시행하고 있는 서울대학교 강의평가 방법에 대한 고찰과 함께 개선 방안을 연구하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 강의 평가를 위한 평가 방식의 문제점을 고찰함과 동시에 평가가 강의의 질 개선에 효과적으로 활용되기 위한 개선점을 모색하였다.

인식 행위로서 수업 담화 분석: 초등 과학 수업을 중심으로 (An Analysis of Classroom Discourse as an Epistemic Practice: Based on Elementary Science Classrooms)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the epistemic process in elementary science classrooms by analyzing classroom discourse as a epistemic practice. Data came from four elementary teachers in the form of video-recordings. A total of 12 elementary science lessons were examined to reveal the discursive modes and sequences in which the teacher and students participated when they constructed and developed scientific knowledge during the lessons. Three representative discursive patterns were found in the elementary science lessons explored: (i) 'Retrieving-Retrieving-${\cdots}$' by which well-established scientific knowledge was retrieved repeatedly, (ii) 'Exploring-Building on the Shared' which allowed introducing new scientific knowledge based on the scientific phenomena explored by the teacher and students together through practical work, and (iii) 'Retrieving-Elaborating/Reformulating/Narrating' or 'Building on the Shared-Elaborating/Reformulating/Narrating' which expanded and strengthened scientific knowledge already learned. These discursive patterns were suggested as discursive-epistemic mechanisms employed frequently in the epistemic process in elementary science lessons and as a basis for defining epistemic cultures of science classrooms.

과학 포트폴리오 체제의 적용이 초등학생의 사회심리학적 교실 환경에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of a Portfolio System on Elementary School Students' Socio-psychological Classroom Environment)

  • The purpose of the research is to investigate the effects of a portfolio system on students' socio-psychological classroom environments in elementary science class. Two schools were selected from a metropolitan area, a city, and one school from a rural area in central Korea. Two fifth-grade classes were sampled from each school selected, and one class is assigned to experimental group and the other to control group, respectively. The total number of participants of the study is 399. Portfolio system was administered to experimental group, and conventional teaching to control group for two and half month. WIHIC, an inventory to measure socio-psychological classroom environment, was administered as a pre- and post-test. Experimental group gained statistically higher scores on WIHIC after administering portfolio system. They showed more positive perceptions on sub-areas of WIHIC such as teacher support, task orientation, and equity. There is interaction between region and group: the effects of the portfolio system is highest in rural area, lowest in metropolitan area, and the city in between. Portfolio system have positive effects on students' socio-psychological classroom environments. Enhanced socio-psychological classroom environments is expected to contribute to positive self-concept, higher science achievements, and self-directed learning.

발생원에 따른 일부 학교 교실의 실내공기질 평가 사례연구 (Assessment of Indoor Air Quality of Classroom in School by Means of Source Generation - Case Study)

  • Indoor air quality has been addressed as an important atmospheric environmental issue and has caught attention of the public in recent years in Korea. Good indoor air quality in classrooms favour student's learning ability, teacher and staff's productivity according to other studies. In this study, each classroom at four different schools was chosen for comparison of indoor and outdoor air quality by means of source generation types such as new constructed classroom, using of cleaning agents and purchased furniture. Temperature, relative humidity (RH), carbon dioxide $(CO_2)$, formaldehyde (HCHO), total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) and particulate matter with diameter less than $10{\mu}m\;(PM_{10})$ were monitored at indoor and outdoor locations during lesson. HCHO was found to be the worst among parameters measured in new constructed classroom, HCHO and TVOCs was worst in classroom with new purchased furniture, and TVOCs was worst in classroom cleaned by cleaning agents, Indoor $(CO_2)$ concentrations often exceeded 1500 ppm indicating importance of ventilation. Active activity of students during break time made the $PM_{10}$ concentration higher than a lesson, Improvements and further researches should be carried out considering indoor air quality at schools is of special concern since children and students are susceptible to poor air quality.

공공도서관 독서교실 운영 방안 - 부산지역 공공도서관을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Scheme for Operation of Reading Classroom Program in Public Libraries : A Case Study of Public Libraries in Pusan)

  • 이 연구는 공공도서관 독서교실 운영 현황을 분석하여 그 문제점과 개선점을 파악하여 독서교실의 운영 방안을 제안하였다. 독서교실 운영 현황 분석을 위한 데이터 수집은 부산지역 22개 공공도서관에서 실시하였던 2007년 겨울 독서교실 운영계획서와 결과보고서를 활용하였다. 또한 부산지역 22개 공공도서관 독서교실 담당사서에게 질문지를 배포하여 답변을 듣고 독서교실의 문제점과 개선점에 대해 분석하였다. 공공도서관 독서교실 운영의 문제점과 개선점으로는 정체성과 참여도, 교육내용, 인력, 사서재교육, 예산 시설 업무조직임을 밝혔다. 공공도서관의 고유성과 전통성을 유지하기 위한 독서교실 운영방안으로는 운영과정 전반에 관해 안내하는 독서교실 운영 매뉴얼 개발이 필요하다.

과학고등학교 교사들의 영재교육에 대한 신념과 실제수업의 관련성 (The Relationship Between Science High School Teachers' Beliefs of Gifted Education and Classroom Practices)

  • 이 연구에서는 과학고 교사들의 영재교육에 대한 신념과 실제수업의 관련성을 알아보았다. 이 사례 연구의 자료는 한 과학 고등학교에 근무하는 세 명의 과학교사로부터 얻었으며, 면담과 수업관찰 등 질적 연구 방법을 통해 수집하였다. 과학고 운영과 교사의 수업에 관련된 다양한 자료도 함께 수집되어 상호검증을 통한 일 치도 확인 방법으로 자료 분석이 이루어졌다. 연구 결과, 과학고 근무경력이 가장 많은 교사는 교사중심의 신념 을 가졌고, 실제 수업 역시 교사 중심으로 운영되었다. 또한 과학고 근무경력이 가장 적은 교사는 학생 중심의 신 념을 가졌고, 실제 수업 역시 학생 중심으로 운영되었다. 반면 과학고 근무경력이 중간인 교사는 학생 중심의 신 념을 가졌으나, 실제 수업은 교사 중심으로 운영되어 신념과 실제 수업의 불일치를 보여주었다. 이러한 연구 결 과로부터, 학교 문화가 교사의 신념보다는 더 강하게 교사의 실제 수업에 영향을 준다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 과 학고 근무 경력이 많을수록 교사의 신념은 영재교육보다는 대학 입학을 위한 지식 교육을 위한 교사 중심으로 변 화되었다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 과학고 교사를 위한 교사교육 프로그램의 필요성을 제안하였다.

Patterns of Teacher Questioning Discourse in Korean Science Classrooms

  • This is a descriptive study to identify patterns of teacher questioning discourse. Transcripts from Korean secondary science classrooms were examined while extensive review of literature on classroom discourse was carried out. When it is assumed that teacher questioning discourse can be categorized into different patterns by considering together the apparent exchange structures and pedagogical functions, various patterns of teacher questioning discourse were revealed. Although most patterns found illustrate the centrality of the teacher, a few of them are considered alternatives to the typical IRE discourse. A framework for classifying teacher questioning discourse is suggested and its implications for science teacher education and future research discussed.

Cases of Exemplary Science Teachers' Professional Development Efforts

  • This qualitative research describes unique features of seven exemplary science teachers' professional development activities. Description of excellence in effective teachers' professional development efforts will provide some insights into required inservice initiatives and support systems for teachers' professional learning. Exemplary science teachers' professional development activities can be classified into four types: (1) practicing classroom supervision, (2) participating in voluntary communities of teachers, (3) playing instructional leader roles in teacher training programs, and (4) continuing one's studies at a graduate school. One of the common features of these exemplary teachers was that they can both articulate what makes teachers professionals and practice in accordance with their perspectives. These exemplary teachers not only improved their own classroom practices, but also participated actively in various professional communities to share their practical knowledge with their colleagues. The teachers have formed special-interest groups to investigate better ways of science teaching. They also took an active role in teachers' in-service education. Teachers' quality practices lie at the heart of classroom change. However, it's important to remember that there must be a support system that sustains and encourages teachers' initiatives. The implications for the support system to encourage teachers' professional development efforts are discussed.

Effect of Challenges with Class Size, Classroom Management and Availability of Instructional Resources on Science Teachers' Teaching Practices in Secondary Schools

  • This study set out to investigate the challenges to science teacher's teaching practices in the Anglophone sub-system of education in Cameroon secondary schools. A sample of 331 of these teachers was selected using the purposive sampling method. Data was collected by use of a questionnaire and was subjected to inferential analysis. The major findings from the multiple regression were challenges associated with the size and management of a science class have an effect on the teaching practices of a science teacher. However, challenges with availability of instructional resources did not have an effect on science teaching practices. Recommendations to solve the identified drawbacks include the provision of more classrooms to accommodate the ever growing population of students and the organization of many seminars through which teachers could be educated on how to handle classroom problems and improvise when necessary.

A Case Study on Using Uncritical Inference Test to Promote Malaysian College Students' Deeper Thinking in Organic Chemistry

  • In Malaysia, the students' poor performance in mathematics and sciences needs immediate attention and remedies. In order to tackle this problem, an active learning environment that encourages students' question-asking capability must be molded. Transformation from traditional teacher-based approach to active-learning classroom is the key to develop question-asking capability. The classroom activity that the authors used in this study is based on the uncritical inference test to promote students' deeper thinking which encouraged students to verify facts that was previously learnt in classroom through group discussion activity. Three sets of uncritical inference test were developed and applied to Malaysian college course of basic organic chemistry. Students' answers to the impact of using uncritical inference test with a group discussion on learning and communication skills were positive.
