The purpose of this study was to examine the relational components of parent education curriculum for college students and home economics curriculum for middle and high school students in Korea. The continuity and hierarchy of the parent education curriculum for college students and the 'human development and family' domain of home economics curriculum for middle and high school students were examined. The major findings were as follows. First, the components of 'human development and family' domain of middle school home economics curriculum in 2015 revision were considerably related with the components of parent education curriculum for college students. Second, the components of 'human development and family' domain of high school home economics curriculum in 2015 revision were considerably related with the components of parent education curriculum for college students. Third, the components of 'human development and family' domain in middle and high school home economics curriculum in 2015 revision and parent education curriculum for college students showed a hierarchical pattern in range and depth of contents. On the basis of these findings, the effectiveness of teaching parent education in middle and high school curriculum was discussed.
The purpose of this study was to examine the factors related to adolescence' post-sexual assault attitudes and behaviors. 906 students from 5girls high schools completed self-reported questionnaires. Independent variables are sexual attitudes, rape myth acceptance, perceived importance of sexuality education, parent sexuality education, parent closeness, parent superintendence, family functioning and socioeconomic variables. The data were analyzed by Factor Analysis, Correlation Analysis, Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis using SPSS program. The significant influencing factors were home sexuality education, perceived necessity & importance of sexuality education, parent closeness, parent superintendence, family functioning, grade, vocational school, rape myth(rapists are mentally ill, dating partner would not be rapist. rapists are stranger), sexual attitudes(sexual permissiveness, gender equality, family planning, STDs & prostitution, marriage and divorce and abortion), and dating experience. Examination of barriers to post-sexual assault coping behaviors and attitudes is critical component of victim recovery and rape prevention. This study would gives basic information to the effective prevention and coping program development related to sexual assault.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parent-adolescent relationship and marital conflict perceived by adolescents on peer victimization. The subjects were 353 middle school students selected from two middle schools in the Incheon area. The instruments of research included the peer victimization index, the parenting behavior index, the parent-adolescent communication index, and the marital conflict inventory. The statistics used for this data were t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. This study showed that middle school student's peer victimization was influenced significantly by the gender. Correlation analysis indicated that parenting behavior and peer victimization were significantly correlated. That is, oppressive, over protective and/or permissive attitudes of the parent were positively correlated with peer victimization. Intimacy and reasonable attitude were negatively correlated with middle school student's peer victimization. Also, parent-adolescent communication and peer victimization were significantly correlated. Especially, open communication was negatively correlated with peer victimization while problematic communication was positively correlated with peer victimization. Marital conflict perceived by adolescents was positively correlated with peer victimization. It was also found that gender, oppressive attitude, permissive attitude, open communication, and marital conflict were significant predictors of middle school student's peer victimization.
This study investigates the differences in parent-related stress, social support, and school adjustment according to self-esteem of children with disabled and non-disabled parents. The data were collected from 176 students between 4th and 6th grade in Chungbuk area. For a data analysis, mean, frequency, percent, three-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation were used. The results show that children's perceived parent-related stress, social support, and school adjustment are varied according to their self-esteem. Those with higher self-esteem were found to have tusker perception level in social support and school adjustment. On the contrary, they were found to have lower level in parent-related stress. The findings indicate further that girls have a closer relationship with their teachers than boys and that children with disabled parents have a closer relationship with their teachers than those with non-disabled parents. However, as opposed to prediction, parental disability itself caused no difference in the level of parent-related stress.
Purpose: This study was done to compare factors influencing children's self-esteem between two parent families and single parent families. Methods: The participants were 692 children aged 11 to 13 yr (388 in two parent families and 304 in single parent families) recruited from 20 community agencies and 5 elementary schools in Gyeonggi Province and Seoul City, South Korea. Data were collected from May to July, 2007 using a survey questionnaire containing items on self-esteem, internal control, problematic behavior, school record, family hardiness, parent-child communication and social support. The data were analyzed using SPSS 15.0 program and factors affecting children's self-esteem were analyzed by stepwise multiple regression. Results: Scores for the study variables were significantly different between the two groups. The factors influencing children's self-esteem were also different according to family type. For two parent families, internal control, problematic behavior, school record, and parent-child communication significantly predicted the level of self-esteem (adjusted $R^2$=.505, p<.001). For single parent families, social support, family hardiness, internal control, problematic behavior, school record, and parent-child communication significantly predicted the level of self-esteem (adjusted $R^2$=.444, p<.001). Conclusion: Nurse working with children should consider family type-specific factors influencing their self-esteem.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the effect of perceived parent-adolescent communication on SNS addiction tendency among high school students and to investigate the mediating effects of self-control on the relationship between above variables. 567 students who were registered in three high schools located in D city completed a questionnaire on parent-adolescent communication, SNS addiction tendency, and self-control. Structural equation models were conducted to compare the research model (complete mediating effect) and the competing model (partial mediating effect), and bootstrapping was conducted to investigate the mediating effects of self-control with SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The results are as follow: First, while the parent-adolescent communication did not directly have an effect the SNS addiction tendency, the self-control had a direct effect on the SNS addiction tendency. Second, the research model was selected as a final model which implied that parent-adolescent communication had an indirect effect on SNS addiction tendency among high school students. Third, self-control had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between parent-adolescent communication and high school students' SNS addiction tendency. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that parent-adolescent communication had an indirect effect rather than a direct effect through self-control on high school students' SNS addiction tendency. This result indicates that the SNS addiction tendency rate of high school student can be lowered, by mediating self-control. Finally, this study suggests that the implicit points on counseling methods to remedy self-control of high school students, and shortcomings and limits of this study and advice for follow-up studies all be discussed.
This study examined the effects of social capital and ego-resilience of children perceived parent-child relationship and sociodemographic variables on their school adjustment. The subjects were 384 4th, 5th and 6th grade students living in Gyeong-gi and Incheon. Collected data was subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, Pearson’s correlation, t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. Results were : (a) Children’s school adjustment varied with their grade in school, birth order and mother’s employment. (b) Social capital of parent-child relationship, ego-resilience, and school adjustment were correlated with one another. (c) Control was the strongest predictor for children’s school adjustment.
The purpose of this study was to test the emotional intelligence development program and to verify the effects of the emotional intelligence development program for the increase of emotional intelligence and school life adaptation in elementary school students of single parent family To verify the previous hypotheses, 16 children of single parent family(experimental group I : n=8, control group 1 : n=8) and 16 children of two parent family(experimental group II : n=8, control group II : n=8) were selected at random, which are a total of high-grade students from P elementary school in J city, Jeon-buk province. Disposal about experimental group executed the emotional intelligence development program for the humanity education of Moon - yong - lin(1999) and the emotional intelligence development program which was reconstructed guidance for elementary school children of Her - seung - hee (2004) as the level of elementary school for 50 minutes, 16times, twice a week. In order to verify the effects after experiment, 1 collected materials for estimation by providing the subject children with questionaries about emotional intelligence and the ability of school life adaptation before and after the experiment, and then analyzed the average differences in number of marks between the experiment group and the control group before and after the experiment through and by using One-Way ANOVA, and SPSS WIN 12.0 program. The results of the study were as follows : First, there was significant increase between experimental group and control group received the emotional intelligence development program on emotional intelligence in statistic data(p<.01). Second, there was significant increase between experimental group and control group received the emotional intelligence development program on the school life adaptation in statistic data(p<.001). Third, there was no significant difference between the single parent family's children and the two parent family's children of the experimental group received the emotional Intelligence development program on the emotional intelligence and the ability of school life adaptation(p>.05). But single parent family's children were higher significant increase than two parent family's children on the relationship with teacher(<.01). The results obtained in this study indicated that the emotional intelligence development program was effective on the emotional intelligence and the ability of school life adaptation. Also, these showed that this program helps the school life adaptation and positive relationship with teacher of single parent family's children.
The present study examined the effect of parent-adolescent communication style and school life satisfaction on the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation among adolescents. The participants were 1,099 middle school and high school students in Chungnam province. The instruments used were the 'Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory', 'The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale', 'Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire', and 'School Life Satisfaction Scale'. The collected data were analyzed by t test, F test, the Scheff$\'{e}$ test for a post hoc test, Pearson's productive correlation, hierachical multiple regression, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for reliability by SPSS program(18.0 version). The results were as follows: First, there were significant differences in parent-adolescent open communication style, school life satisfaction, and suicidal ideation by school level, and in the relationship with the teacher in school life satisfaction by gender. Second, the more depressed they were, the more they had suicidal ideation by school level and gender. Also, the more they communicated openly with their parents and the more satisfied they were with their school life, the less depressed they were and the lower degree of suicidal ideation they had. Finally, there were significant effects of both parent-adolescent communication style and school life satisfaction on the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation among adolescents.
The present study investigated the parent's educational views according to sex, age, educational level of parent, and social class. The study also examined parent's educational views resulting from participation of parent education and the types of parent education of marital partner. The subjects were consisted of 162 couples(324 persons) whose children were attending elementary school in Seoul. The instrument was "A tools of Parent's Educational Views Measurement". The major findings are: 1. Parent's educational views showed a tendency to be adult oriented rather than child centered regardless of parent's sex and age. However, the higher parent's education and SES are, the more child oriented views are. 2. Mothers who had participated in the specialized parent education were found to be child oriented educational views. 3. The fathers whose wives participated in the specilized parent education showed the child oriented educational views, probably because of mothers' influence on fathers' educational views.
