  • This study was performed to investigate the nutrition knowledge, dietary attitudes, and dietary behaviors among high school students by gender. The subjects were 275 students (127 male, 148 female) in Incheon metropolitan area. Self-administered questionnaires consisted of general characteristics and anthropometric data, nutrition knowledge, dietary attitudes, and dietary behaviors. The average score of nutrition knowledge was significantly higher in female subjects (9.4) compared to male subjects (8.2) (p<0.01). Male subjects had a higher score for dietary attitudes than female subjects (p<0.001). Frequency of meals was significantly higher in male subjects compared to female subjects (p<0.05). Duration of meal time in male subjects was significantly higher ('5-10 minutes') compared to female subjects (p<0.001). Unbalanced diet was significantly higher in female subjects (66.3%) compared to male subjects (48.9%) (p<0.01). Male subjects showed significantly higher consumption frequency of 'dairy' (p<0.001) and 'beans' (p<0.001) compared to female subjects. For snack consumption, male subjects showed higher consumption frequency of 'nuts' (p<0.001), 'soda' (p<0.05), 'fast foods' (p<0.001), and 'ramyeon' (p<0.01), but lower consumption frequency of 'biscuits and bakery' (p<0.01) compared to female subjects. • This study aimed to develop an engineering design-based science education program for high school students and to investigate its effects on students' science-related attitudes and engineering design abilities. "Creating healthy shoes for maintaining proper posture program" was developed as an activity to come up with creative solutions using the methodology of an engineering design process to solve problems in daily life. The creating healthy shoes for maintaining proper posture program consisted of the following five stages: "defining the problem," "ingathering information related to the problem," "generating the solution," "implementing the best solution," and "evaluating the solution & reflecting." As a result of applying this engineering design-based science education program, it improved the high school students' science-related attitudes and engineering design abilities. Therefore, the program developed in this study has a positive effect on enhancing high school students' science-related attitudes and engineering design abilities. These findings imply that the continuous operation and expansion of activities incorporating an engineering design process in science education are necessary as a teaching and learning strategy for cultivating future science talents.

  • Peer status, friendship, and school adjustment were measured for 326 third and fourth graders (171 boys, 155 girls). School adjustment was assessed by academic performance, and social behaviors were rated by teachers while attitudes toward school were reported by children. Examination of the relative contributions of peer status and friendship to school adjustment revealed both unique and joint explanations. Children's academic performance was mainly explained by peer status; popular children had higher performance than rejected children. Attitudes toward school were more positive for children who reported higher friendship quality. Prosocial behaviors were higher for the popular group and for children with more stable reciprocal friends; aggressive behaviors were higher for the rejected group and competitive children with close friends; withdrawal behaviors were higher for the neglected group and children with few reciprocal friends.

  • The purpose of this thesis was to improve the plans and methods of teaching and learning activities and contribute to developing teachers` quality and reeducating them by investigating teachers' attitudes toward teaching and learning have a significant effect on the students' attitudes toward mathematics and the students' ability development at mathematics. The inventory was composed of 56 items : three main areas and eight sub-areas. Added seven background factors were sex, by whom was established (is it a public or nongovernmental \ulcorner), teaching career, age, what kind of school (is it general or vacational high school or middle school\ulcorner), region, college. For this analysis of materials used SAS program. And analysis of variance was applied on the seven background factors. All subjects in this study were 341 secondary school mathematics teachers in pusan city and Kyungsangnam-do were surveyed by the questionnaire of Likert type to which the respondents' seven background elements were added. Main results this study were as follows : 1. The overall attitude of the measured secondary school mathematics teachers tends to be positive but a little indifferent. Also attitude toward the students was a little more positive than the other attitudes. 2. There were significant differences (1%) among the sub-level areas except three of them. (r = 0.17~0.60) 3. There were significant differences (5%) by the result of Multiple comparison test among the schools in learning and teaching. So the teachers working at middle schools and general high schools were more positive than those working at vocational high schools. 4. The result of comparison among region was that teachers working in towns and cities were more positive than those working in the country. But there was no significant difference between the teachers working in large cities and those working in other region. 5. There was no significant difference in the overall attitudes toward teaching and learnig among the sex, by whom was established(is it public or nongovernmental\ulcorner), teaching career, age, college. The study left much deficiency to be desired and has to be followed by a continuing study to make it better. For the following study, it is necessary to examine the validity and reliability of the measuring tools more thoroughly and investigate the attitudes with sufficient samples all over the country.
