  • Power saving is one of the most important features that extends the lifetime of portable devices in mobile wireless networks. The IEEE 802.16e mobile broadband wireless access system adopts a power saving mechanism with a binary truncated exponent algorithm for determining sleep intervals. When using this standard power saving scheme, there is often a delay before data packets are received at the mobile subscriber station (MSS). In order to extend the lifetime of a MSS, the battery energy must be used efficiently. This paper presents a dynamically alternating sleep interval scheduling algorithm as a solution to deal with the power consumption problem. We take into account different traffic classes and schedule a proper sequence of power saving classes. The window size of the sleep interval is calculated dynamically according to the packet arrival rate. We make a tradeoff between the power consumption and packet delay. The method achieves the goal of efficiently reducing the listening window size, which leads to increased power saving. The performance of our proposed scheme is compared to that of the standard power saving scheme. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of our power saving scheme and its ability to strike the appropriate performance balance between power saving and packet delay for a MSS in an IEEE 802.16e mobile broadband wireless access system.

  • BE(Best-Effort)방식의 인터넷에서 제공되던 Text위주의 서비스 제공 방식이 Multimedia 위주의 서비스로 점차 바뀌어 감에 따라, 기존의 BE(Best-Effort)방식으로는 Multimedia QoS(Quality of Service)를 보장하기가 어려워졌다. 이에 IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)에서는 변화하는 인터넷 환경에서 QoS 보장을 위해 Diffserv(Differentiated Service)방식을 제안하게 되었다.

  • The Theory of Constraints (TOC) is an approach and a philosophy that is used to develop specific management techniques. It was first popularized by the novel, The Coal, that applied the principles to operations management. Since 1997 it has found application in two areas within project management The first application is scheduling of a sing1e project to reduce project duration and simplify project control. there is a further application to allocate resources that are shared by concurrent project. It is the objective of this paper to explore the fundamentals of critical chain and to pursue an application of critical chain method to construction project by a case study.

  • Delay claim should actually be supported by a set of proper information so that the contractors could prove their validity. The so-called information should be able to clarify the relationship between delay events and how they impact on the whole project. Therefore, exploiting an integrated system by people who are involved in construction business would certainly prove helpful. In the present study, delay analysis methods have been investigated along with selecting a relatively comprehensive method which has been modified, and eventually, a novel model and its required modules have been proposed for evaluating delay claims. The suggested integrated model is formed to identify delayed events, to classify delays, to measure the impacts of delays on the project scheduling, and finally to estimate the damages which were caused by those so-called delays. A decision support system (DSS) model which is related to the integrated system is actually extracted from Iran's general contract conditions, that is, 4311 magazine (equivalent to red FIDIC book). It is then programmed and coded by C# program. This DSS model can be used as an input of Easy Plan program. In addition, at the end of this research, the coded DSS has been used along with the so-called program so that a modified and developed model could be generated.

  • The reliability of sensor networks is generally dependent on the battery power of the sensor nodes that it employs; hence it is crucial for the sensor nodes to efficiently use their battery resources. This research paper presents a method to increase the reliability of sensor nodes by constructing a connected dominating tree (CDT), which is a subnetwork of wireless sensor networks. It detects the minimum number of dominatees, dominators, forwarder sensor nodes, and aggregates, as well as transmitting data to the sink. A new medium access control (MAC) protocol, called Homogenous Quorum-Based Medium Access Control (HQMAC), is also introduced, which is an adaptive, homogenous, asynchronous quorum-based MAC protocol. In this protocol, certain sensor nodes belonging to a network will be allowed to tune their wake-up and sleep intervals, based on their own traffic load. A new quorum system, named BiQuorum, is used by HQMAC to provide a low duty cycle, low network sensibility, and a high number of rendezvous points when compared with other quorum systems such as grid and dygrid. Both the theoretical results and the simulation results proved that the proposed HQMAC (when applied to a CDT) facilitates low transmission latency, high delivery ratio, and low energy consumption, thus extending the lifetime of the network it serves.

  • In multi-server environment there are many servers which are able to process job requests. So we bave to design a mechanism that selects appropriate servers for processing each job request while maximizing server throughput and minimizing average response time of requests. Conventional methods ac~ opt the load of each server as criteria of server selection. that is, they select a server whose load is not bigger than the others. In this work we propose an approach that uses the degree of server performance, server load and the estimated service time of requested job as guidelines of server selection. We incorporate fuzzification techniques and expert knowledge in this approach. Comparing the performances c~f our approach to that of conventional one, experiments show that the proposed approach provides better performances.

  • Construction accident have been increasing in despite of safety management activities and education in construction site. This study surveyed safety organization, education, safety management, scheduling, safety checklist with construction firms in order to grasp the actual condition. A improved method is suggested that safety checklist is supplemented with various safety materials and then stored as database. Furthermore, safety checklists are connected and operated with schedule in ender to more efficiently prevent construction accidents.

  • Construction work varies with the project types. However, the success of all project types depends upon three conditions i.e. schedule, quality and cost. If these three conditions are fulfilled, then project said to be successful. In this paper, scheduling of a construction Project has been dealt with the application of CCPM method. CCPM has been introduced as a new theory in construction industry in 1997 at the United States, but its application is still insufficient in domestic field due to the absence of systematic study, A simulation has been conducted in a Bridge construction project to validate the possibility of CCPM in order to complement PERT/CPM in construction field. The result of study shows that the CCPM could be effective to reduce the project time duration than existing PERT/CPM technique.

  • Cost and Schedule is the most important information, and how efficiently manage this information is the key issue for Construction Project Management. Domestically, systematic scheduling method such as CPM network is not only used widely but integration of time and cost information also is. In order to effectively integrate and use the time and cost information, it is suggested that WBS(Work Breakdown Structure) based QDB(Quantity Database) should be generated from the design phase and, WBS and QDB related system tool should be supported. It could be helpful to relate and integrate other construction project information.

  • Construction project has been more complex and bigger as various demands of the times. But current schedule management method in construction project uses only PERT or CPM made in 1950s without innovation. Also current schedule management focuses on not information flow between activities and variability of information exchanged but result. This paper suggest using the DSM(Dependency Structure Matrix) in schedule management of construction project to overcome limitations of current scheduling tools. DSM has been introduced as a new theory in construction industry in 1990s at the United States, but its application is still insufficient in domestic field due to the absence of systematic study.
