QoS oriented bandwidth management scheme on the ATM based IMT-2000 networks (ATM 기반 IMT-2000망에서 QoS에 기반한 대역폭 관리기법)

  • In this paper, we propose bandwidth management scheme to efficiently guarantee the QoS of various services on ATM based IMT-2000 networks. The proposed bandwidth management scheme consists of the call admission control to reduce a handoff failure probability and the scheduling scheme to efficiently allocate a time slot based on the QoS requirements in wireless links. The simulation results show that the proposed bandwidth scheme has better performance than the previous works in terms of the handoff failure probability and packet delay time.

  • The theory of constraints (TOC) has become a valuable system in modern operations management. Using the ideas and methods of the TOC, companies can achieve a large reduction of work-in-process and finished-goods inventories, significant improvement in scheduling performance, and substantial earnings increase. The purpose of this paper is to calculate the optimal size of the time buffer which is used to accommodate disruptions in production processes and provide maximum productivity of capacity constrained resources. After the problem formulation in terms of single server queueing model, we observed the system behavior by sensitivity analyses.

  • Labor management has been considered as an important task in construction industry. However, labor management has not yet been systematically performed because of the wide variety of factors of construction industry such as the field work, the complexity of the work process, the daily employment. Most of the present labor managements are performed to collect the information of the number of labors input during the work period, and to calculate labor cost. The information of activities performed by labors can be effectively used to analyze project status related to schedule, cost and productivity, but the present labor management systems are not based on the activities. The main objective of this research is to develop a labor information management system using IT tools in order to measure the number of labors input on the activities, and to convert the labor information into productivity data. It is anticipated that the effective use of the developed system would be able to effectively assist the scheduling and cost management of a project.

Design of Contact Scheduling System(CSS) for Customer Retention (고객유지를 위한 접촉스케줄링시스템의 설계)

  • Customer retention is one of the major issues in life insurance industry, in which competition is increasingly fierce. There are many things for the life insurers to do many things to retain the customers. One of those things is to make sure to keep in touch with all customers. When an insurance-planner resigned, his/her customers must be taken care of by some planner-assistants. This article outlines the design of Contact Scheduling System (CSS) that supports planner-assistants for contacting the customers. Planner-assistants are unable to share the resigned insurance-planner's experience and knowledge regarding the customer relationship management. The CSS developed by employing both Classification And Regression Tree (CART) technique and Sequential Pattern Mining (SPM) technique has a two-stage process. In the first stage, it segments the customers into eight groups by CART model. Then it generates contact scheduling information consisting of contact-purpose, contact-interval and contact-channel, according to the segment's typical contact pattern. Contact-purpose is derived by schedule-driven, event-driven, or business-rule-driven. Schedule-driven contact is determined by SPM model. In the operation of CSS in a realistic situation, it shows a practicality in supporting planner-assistants to keep in touch with the customers efficiently and effectively.

  • Preliminary scheduling at the initial stage of planning phase is usually performed with limited information and details. Therefore, the reliability and accuracy of preliminary scheduling is affected by personal experiences and skills of the schedule planners, and it requires enormous managerial effort (or workload). Reusing of historical data of the similar projects is important for efficient preliminary scheduling. However, understanding the structure of historical data and applying them to a new project requires a great deal of experience and knowledge. In this context, this paper propose a framework and methodology for automated preliminary schedule generation based on historical database. The proposed methodology and framework enables to automatically generate CPM schedules for airport projects in the early planning stage in order to enhance the reliability and to reduce the workload by using structured knowledge and experience.

  • Currently, reconstruction and remodeling are conducted to improve the performance of aged housing. Recently reconstruction has caused many problems such as wastes generation, wasting resources and real estate speculation, remodeling is drawing attention. Accordingly, remodeling business for aged housings gradually increasing, but the use of scheduling method not considering characteristics of remodeling deters construction in some construction types. Especially, in case of dismantling construction, the dismantling is delayed since the scheduling method not considering characteristics of remodeling is used. In case of remodeling, dismantling construction is ahead of other processes, if the dismantling construction is delayed, whole construction will be delayed and if speedy construction is conducted, the costs for remodeling will increase. Furthermore, existing remodeling for aged housing has been for rahmen(crossbeam and pillar) structure apartments, but since most apartments to be remodeled are wall-slab structure where dismantling takes a lot of weight, it is highly possible the dismantling construction is delayed. Thus, this paper is to establish scheduling method for the dismantling construction reflecting characteristic of remodeling to prevent delay of dismantling construction for remodeling of aged housing with wall-slab structure.

  • The duration of highrise building projects is more shorter than its increasing of the numbers of floors. The project is liable to overrun of the time in which the project must be complete. AS highrise buildings are increased, time management has been reorganized as critical success factor. To improve time management, time management softwares are introduced and the software's education is made lively in construction company. However a large amount of time management works still have been based on not the software but scheduler's experience. We often can find the time overrun risk of highrise building because of the shortage of scheduler's experience. To diminish the mistake of the scheduler who does not have much experience, we suggested HRB Expert which uses expert's knowledge to make the time plan of highrise building. We made an example of knowledge acquiring and knowledge usage which cased on reinforced concrete work of highrise building by literature review and interview with scheduling expert. The precision of time plan will be enhanced and time overrun will be prevented on condition that HRB Expert is constructed and used

  • Currently, the existing schedule management of ship repair has depended on hand-written notes of engineering manager in the repair ship yard. Simple management based on the hand-written notes is inefficient because current states of equipments and staff are not graspable in real-time. To solve this problem, the ICT based scheduling method is required in ship repair industry. In this paper, we propose a system based on ICT which manages schedules for repairing ships. The proposed system solves the problem occurred by the management to use the hand-written notes. Because the system has a function to report the current state of ship repair, it is able to cope with various problems, such as delay, wrong repair and so on. Moreover, the system is able to maximize the efficiency of ship repair process due to efficient management to staff and equipment.

  • Fog computing aims to provide the solution of bandwidth, network latency and energy consumption problems of cloud computing. Likewise, management of data generated by healthcare IoT devices is one of the significant applications of fog computing. Huge amount of data is being generated by healthcare IoT devices and such types of data is required to be managed efficiently, with low latency, without failure, and with minimum energy consumption and low cost. Failures of task or node can cause more latency, maximum energy consumption and high cost. Thus, a failure free, cost efficient, and energy aware management and scheduling scheme for data generated by healthcare IoT devices not only improves the performance of the system but also saves the precious lives of patients because of due to minimum latency and provision of fault tolerance. Therefore, to address all such challenges with regard to data management and fault tolerance, we have presented a Fault Tolerant Data management (FTDM) scheme for healthcare IoT in fog computing. In FTDM, the data generated by healthcare IoT devices is efficiently organized and managed through well-defined components and steps. A two way fault-tolerant mechanism i.e., task-based fault-tolerance and node-based fault-tolerance, is provided in FTDM through which failure of tasks and nodes are managed. The paper considers energy consumption, execution cost, network usage, latency, and execution time as performance evaluation parameters. The simulation results show significantly improvements which are performed using iFogSim. Further, the simulation results show that the proposed FTDM strategy reduces energy consumption 3.97%, execution cost 5.09%, network usage 25.88%, latency 44.15% and execution time 48.89% as compared with existing Greedy Knapsack Scheduling (GKS) strategy. Moreover, it is worthwhile to mention that sometimes the patients are required to be treated remotely due to non-availability of facilities or due to some infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Thus, in such circumstances, the proposed strategy is significantly efficient.

  • This research is a development of useful S/W program for real industry about optimal product scheduling in real plant for manufacturing polymer products. For this, we used a fine model with total amount of losses in weight(ton) as an objective for optimal scheduling and a genetic algorithm for optimization in this factory they manufacture three different products. Major products are A and B but the product which can be process in the period of products change over. They also sells them as a chap product in market. The major products have several types of packing process-bulk, pack for domestic market, pack for export. The demands of product with each packing type are increased, and frequently they failed keep the deadline for sail. Based on realistic production situation, we composed a fine modeling for optimal scheduling. And we also develop a S/W program for optimal scheduling which can be used by non-specialist in scheduling problem. We used a modified genetic algorithm and it gave us a better solution in process. We can have a result of reducing the total amount of losses in weight by half compared with the losses when existing production schedule.
