  • The morphology of the $D_2O$-induced reverse micellar structure of an amphiphilic block copolymer of poly( ethylene oxide )-b-poly(propylene oxide )-b-poly( ethylene oxide )($EO_{76}PO_{29}EO_{76}$) was investigated in hydrophobic media by small angle neutron scattering (SANS). Increasing $D_2O$ in the styrene/divinylbenzene solution of $EO_{76}PO_{29}EO_{76}$ led to a change in morphology of the reverse micelles from a short range ordered molecular aggregate to a hexagonally arranged micelle, and further to a spherical micelle.

  • Radiative transfer models in a spherical, turbulent interstellar medium (ISM), in which the photon source is situated at the center, are calculated to investigate the correlation between the scattered light and the dust column density. The medium is modeled using fractional Brownian motion structures that are appropriate for turbulent ISM. The correlation plot between the scattered light and optical depth shows substantial scatter and deviation from simple proportionality. It was also found that the overall density contrast is smoothed out in scattered light. In other words, there is an enhancement of the dust-scattered flux in low-density regions, while the scattered flux is suppressed in high-density regions. The correlation becomes less significant as the scattering becomes closer to being isotropic and the medium becomes more turbulent. Therefore, the scattered light observed in near-infrared wavelengths would show much weaker correlation than the observations in optical and ultraviolet wavelengths. We also find that the correlation plot between scattered lights at two different wavelengths shows a tighter correlation than that of the scattered light versus the optical depth.

  • The influences of fluorophor, scatterer, and absorber in turbid material by light scattering were interpreted for the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength. The molecular properties have been studied by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy in phantom. It has been found that the effects of optical properties in scattering media could be investigated by the optical parameters(${\mu}_a$, ${\mu}_a$, ${\mu}_t$). Experimental and Monte Carlo Simulation method for modelling light transport in tissue was applied. The experimental results using a phantom were discussed and compared with those obtained through Monte Carlo Simulation. It may also aid in designing the best model for oil chemistry, medicine and application of medical engineering.

The molecular properties have been studied by Monte Carlo simulation in resin of New Austria Tunnel Method. It has been found that the effects of optical properties in scattering media could be investigated by the optical parameters(${\mu}_s$, ${\mu}_a$,${\mu}_t$). Monte Carlo Simulation method for modelling of light transport in the civil engineering and construction field was applied. The results using a phantom were discussed that the admixture for shrinkage compensating concrete in NATM-rasin from source to detector is measured, and scattering intensity is stronger with those obtained through Monte Carlo Simulation. It may also aid in designing the best model for coatings and corrosion for the durability of metal constructions.

  • The influences of fluorescence, scattering, and flocculation in turbid material by light scattering of N-propyl-N,N-dimethylethanolamine, fluorescence agent and absorption agent were interpreted for the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength. They have been studied the molecular properties by the spectroscopy of laser induced fluorescence (LIF) and flocculation. The effects of optical properties in scattering media have been found by the optical parameters(${\mu}_s$, ${\mu}_a$, ${\mu}_t$). Flocculation is an important step in many solid-liquid separation processes and is widely used. When two particles approach each other, interactions of several colloid particles can come into play which may have major effect on the flocculation and LIF process. The values of scattering coefficient ${\mu}_s$ are large by means of the increasing scattering of scatterer, The values have been found that the slope decays exponentially as a function of concentration from laser source to detector by our experimental result. It may also aid in designing the best model for oil chemistry, bio-pharmaceutical, laser medicine and application of medical engineering on LIF and coagulation in particle transport mode.

  • Novel poly(aspartic acid) derivatives conjugated with $\gamma$-amino butyric acid, GABA, moieties, and their amphiphilic analogs were synthesized and characterized. The chemical structures of these polymers were confirmed by FT-IR and $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy. Their physicochemical properties in aqueous media were characterized by electrophonetic light scattering spectrophotometry (ELS), acid-base titration, and UV-spectroscopy. In addition, the in vitro cell activity of the GABA-conjugated polymer was examined. These results indicated that GABA-conjugated poly(aspartic acid) derivatives showed cell-growth activity and nanoparticle formation of a suitable size within aqueous media. These polymers have potential application in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical fields.

  • Pressure-dependent structural and morphological changes of two amphibole minerals, tremolite and actinolite, were investigated up to 7.0 GPa using synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction underthree different pressure transmission media (PTM): water (W), $CO_2$ and silicone oil (SI). The elastic response of tremolite and actinolite are found to be dependent on the PTM used. When using water (W) as PTM, tremolite and actinolite show normal volume contractions with bulk moduli of 74(1) and 78(1) GPa, respectively. When using $CO_2$ as PTM, we observe the formation of calcite from tremolite above 3.8(1) GPa, whereas actinolite did not show any carbonation reaction. Under silicone oil PTM, we observe modulated volume contraction behaviors in both samples, compared to water and $CO_2$ PTM, with bulk moduli in the order of 90(1) and 94(4) GPa for tremolite and actinolite, respectively.

  • Ultrasonic testing of composite materials is much more difficult than that of isotropic materials, because of the beam skew phenomenon caused by their elastic anisotropy. An established analytical method exists for elastic wave propagation in anisotropic media as a result of previous research efforts. Yet, due to the complexity of the analytical method, solution of real problems must resort to the numerical method. In this work, analytical solutions have first been obtained for the wavefield due to a point source in a unidirectional fiber-reinforced composite, which may be modeled as transversely isotropic. Then, the corresponding numerical solutions have been obtained using the mass-spring lattice model(MSLM). The two solutions have agreed well with each other. Other problems such as reflection from free boundaries and scattering from cracks have also been solved numerically, and the results have been investigated from the viewpoint of wave mechanics. The numerical model whose validity has been confirmed by this work will be of great use in simulating ultrasonic testing of composite materials.

  • Almost half of primeval galaxies show P-Cygni type profiles in the Ly$\alpha$ emission line. The main underlying mechanism for the profile formation in these systems is thought to be the frequency re-distribution of the line photons in expanding scattering media surrounding the emission source. A Monte Carlo code is developed to investigate the Ly$\alpha$ line transfer in an optically thick and moving medium with a careful consideration of the scattering in the damping wings. Typical column densities and expansion velocities of neutral hydrogen investigated in this study are $N_{H1}{\~}10^{17-20}\;cm^{-2}$ and ${\Delta}V{\~} 100 km\;s^{-1}$. We investigate the dependence of the emergent profiles on the kinematics and on the column density. Our numerical results are applied to show that the damped Ly$\alpha$ absorbers may possess an expanding H I supershell with bulk flow of ${\~}200 km\;s^{-l}$ and H I column density $N_{H1}{\~}10^{19}\;cm^{-2}$. We briefly discuss the observational implications.
