The performance of a multi-head, computerized combination scaling system to automatically identify a group of agricultural products having a total weight within the target range has been optimized to reduce the package cycle time of the merchandise. First, the structure of the scale was modified to enable faster measurement by enhancing the dynamic stability during the process. Second, the high frequency noise in the measured signal was eliminated by a high frequency filter to provide more accurate weight data. Finally, the algorithm to identify a group of products with a total weight within the target range was modified to enable a user to select an optimal number of scales. According to the experimental verifications, this modified system reduced the package cycle time significantly and also was accurate in measuring the total weight of the selected products.

This paper presents a method of improving the pose recognition accuracy of objects by using Kinect sensor. First, by using the SURF algorithm, which is one of the most widely used local features point algorithms, we modify inner parameters of the algorithm for efficient object recognition. The proposed method is adjusting the distance between the box filter, modifying Hessian matrix, and eliminating improper key points. In the second, the object orientation is estimated based on the homography. Finally the novel approach of Auto-scaling method is proposed to improve accuracy of object pose estimation. The proposed algorithm is experimentally tested with objects in the plane and its effectiveness is validated.
Microprocessors are becoming increasingly vulnerable to soft errors due to the current trends of semiconductor technology scaling. Traditional redundant multi-threading architectures provide perfect fault tolerance by re-executing all the computations. However, such a full re-execution technique significantly increases the verification workload on the processor resources, resulting in severe performance degradation. This paper presents a pro-active verification management approach to mitigate the verification workload to increase its performance with a minimal effect on overall reliability. An anomaly-speculation-based filter checker is proposed to guide a verification priority before the re-execution process starts. This technique is accomplished by exploiting a value similarity property, which is defined by a frequent occurrence of partially identical values. Based on the biased distribution of similarity distance measure, this paper investigates further application to exploit similar values for soft error tolerance with anomaly speculation. Extensive measurements prove that the majority of instructions produce values, which are different from the previous result value, only in a few bits. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme accelerates the processor to be 180% faster than traditional fully-fault-tolerant processor with a minimal impact on overall soft error rate.
In this paper, we propose a unified method to solve the various robust filtering problem for a class of uncertain discrete time systems. Generally, to solve the robust filtering problem, we must convert the convex optimization problem with uncertainty blocks to the uncertainty free convex optimization problem. To do this, we derive the robust matrix inequality problem. This technique involves using constant scaling parameter which can be optimized by solving a linear matrix inequality problem. Therefore, the robust matrix inequality problem does not conservative. The robust filter can be designed by using this robust matrix inequality problem and by considering its solvability conditions.

This paper proposes the human arm motion tracking algorithm based on the signal processing for surface EMG (electromyogram) sensors attached on both upper arm and shoulder. The signals acquired by using surface EMG sensors are processed with choosing the maximum in a short period, taking the absolute value, and filtering noises out with a low-pass filter. The processed signals are directly used for the motion generation of virtual arm in real time simulator. The virtual arm of simulator has two degrees of freedom and complies with the flexion and extension motions of elbow and shoulder. Also, we show the validity of the suggested algorithms through the experiments.

Recently, we have many kinds of picture format and display, and resizing (scaling) of picture becomes important. In this processing, quality of picture depends on re-sizing method. For this, some methods to improve the PSNR have been proposed. However, subjective picture quality is more important. Especially, degradation caused by re-sizing, such as jaggy (aliasing) and ringing, should be reduced. To solve them, we have proposed the method using directional adaptive interpolation. To improve the performance of this method, we consider the shape analysis this time. In the proposed method, directional adaptive processing is applied for pure edge only. In the texture area and flat area, 8 tap re-sampling filter is used. As the results of processing, the reductions of jaggy and incorrect interpolated pixels are recognized. The subjective picture quality of proposed method is significantly better than 8-tap re-sampling which gives good PSNR.
The range resolution of echo sounders can be improved by enhancing the transducer bandwidth. We designed a bandpass matching network for expanding the bandwidth of a transducer by scaling in both impedance and frequency after transforming a lowpass network into a bandpass configuration for a third-order Bessel filter. We measured the effect of the Bessel matching network for a 50 kHz sandwich type transducer on the transmitting voltage response (TVR), receiving sensitivity (SRT) and figure of merit (FOM), using a chirp echo sounder system. Both the simulation and experimental results indicated that the transducer with a bandpass matching network was capable of producing a symmetrical acoustic output over a wider bandwidth (8.25 kHz) than was the transducer without a matching network (3.75 kHz). By implementing the Bessel matching network, we achieved a 120% bandwidth enhancement.

High-level design aids are mandatory for design of a continuous-time delta-sigma modulator (CTDSM). This paper proposes a top-down methodology design to generate a noise transfer function (NTF) which is compensated for excess loop delay (ELD). This method is applicable to low pass loop-filter topologies. Non-ideal effects including ELD, integrator scaling issue, finite op-amp performance, clock jitter and DAC inaccuracies are explicitly represented in a behavioral simulation of a CTDSM. Mathematical modeling using MATLAB is supplemented with circuit-level simulation using Verilog-A blocks. Behavioral simulation and circuit-level simulation using Verilog-A blocks are used to validate our approach.

In this paper, we propose an image downscaler used in multimedia video applications, such as DTV, TV-PIP, PC-video, camcorder, videophone and so on. The proposed image downscaler provides a scaled image of high-quality and high-performance. This paper will explain the scaling theory using two-dimensional digital filters. It is the method that removes an aliasing noise and decreases the hardware complexity, compared with Pixel-drop and Upsamling. Also, this paper will prove it improves scaling precisians and decreases the loss of data, compared with the Scaler32, the Bt829 of Brooktree, and the SAA7114H of Philips. The proposed downscaler consists of the following four blocks: line memory, vertical scaler, horizontal scaler, and FIFO memory. In order to reduce the hardware complexity, the using digital filters are implemented by the multiplexer-adder type scheme and their all the coefficients can be simply implemented by using shifters and adders. It also decreases the loss of high frequency data because it provides the wider BW of 6MHz as adding the compensation filter. The proposed downscaler is modeled by using the Verilog-HDL and the model is verified by using the Cadence simulator. After the verification is done, the model is synthesized into gates by using the Synopsys. The synthesized downscaler is Placed and routed by the Mentor with the IDEC-C632 0.65${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ library for further IC implementation. The IC master is fixed in size by 4,500${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$4,500${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The active layout size of the proposed downscaler is 2,528${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$3,237${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

EMR(Electronic Medical Record) is an emerging technology that is highly-blended between non-IT and IT area. One of methodology to link non-IT and IT area is to construct databases. Nowadays, it supports before and after-treatment for patients and should satisfy all stakeholders such as practitioners, nurses, researchers, administrators and financial department and so on. In accordance with the database maintenance, DAS (Data as Service) model is one solution for outsourcing. However, there are some scalability and strategy issues when we need to plan to use DAS model properly. We constructed three kinds of databases such as plain-text, MS built-in encryption which is in-house model and custom AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) - DAS model scaling from 5K to 2560K records. To perform custom AES-DAS better, we also devised Bucket Index using Bloom Filter. The simulation showed the response times arithmetically increased in the beginning but after a certain threshold, exponentially increased in the end. In conclusion, if the database model is close to in-house model, then vendor technology is a good way to perform and get query response times in a consistent manner. If the model is DAS model, it is easy to outsource the database, however, some technique like Bucket Index enhances its utilization. To get faster query response times, designing database such as consideration of the field type is also important. This study suggests cloud computing would be a next DAS model to satisfy the scalability and the security issues.
