This study applied satellite radar imagery to identify flooded areas and examined post-flooding conditions using time-series satellite radar imagery for the development of flood damage mitigation strategies. Using time-series satellite radar images, this study constructed a map delineating areas vulnerable to frequent flood damage. The extracted flooded areas were combined with reference land use maps to examine flood damage by land use type. Major landuse types with severe flood damage were agricultural and forested areas. The analysis of the damage conditions, in terms of land use, served as the basis for developing flood damage mitigation policies, in conjunction with land use planning. The policies for flood damage mitigation can be summarized as land use regulations, land use planning, and flood damage mapping. A preventive measure to minimize flood damage of properties, which regulates developing areas with high flooding potential, is highly recommended. Although this study suggested a number of policies for flood damage mitigation, they represent only a small number of possible policies useful for mitigating flood damage and other environmental problems. Based upon the results of this study, it may be concluded that satellite radar imagery has great potential in providing basic data for large-scale environmental problems such as flooding and oil spills. Nevertheless, further examinations should be conducted and the application of satellite radar imagery should be used to examine other environmental problems.
Remotely sensed data have been utilized efficiently for damage detection immediately after the natural disaster since they provide valuable information on land cover change due to spatial synchronization and multitemporal observation over large areas. Damage information obtained at an early stage is important for rapid emergency response and recovery works. Many useful techniques to analyze the characteristics of the pre- and post-event satellite images in large-scale damage detection have been successfully investigated for emergency management. Since high-resolution satellite images provide a wealth of information on damage occurred in urban areas, they are successfully utilized for damage detection in urban areas. In this research, a method to perform automated damage detection is proposed based on the differences of the textural characteristics in pre- and post- high resolution satellite images.

One of future remote sensing techniques for the estimation of damage by storm and flood is the extraction of water area, which could be the basis of measuring the damage by storm and flood and estimate restoration cost. This paper introduces an approach to damage estimation using satellite Image. The project site was Ansung area and a set of Radarsat-1 SAR image at 6.25m resolution was used for the test. Authors investigated methods of SAR image processing such as shadow-effect removal, orthorectification of SAR image and calculation of damage area by flood. Consequetly, this study showed that technique improvement of image processing and the best of result for extracting water area. Also, found the new possibility of damage estimation using satellite image.
The paper presents a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system designed for satellite movement testing in the microgravity environment on the ground with two industrial robots. Especially, the paper deals with the contact between satellites during rendezvous and docking simulations of satellites using a robotic HILS system. For this purpose, the admittance control method plays a core role in preventing damage to the satellite or robot from contact force between satellites. The coordinate frames are transformed into the mass center of the satellite and the admittance control at the level of exponential coordinates is adopted to actively use the properties of Lie groups related to tracking errors. These methods effectively mitigate the risk of robot damage during inter-satellite contact and ensure efficient tracking performance of satellite movements.

When investigating the damage of a forest fire, quite a few are depending on the naked eye observation. However, if the damage spreads to another area, it is easy to use the satellite images because it is hard to reach all the damaged areas on foot. From this research, we did a statistical interpretation of after fire using satellite image data to classify the damage on first and second factor analysis. As a result, it was more easier to classify the river's plants and ridges between rice fields that were in the forest fire damage area in the second observation then the first observation. Also, we could classify the area by areas that were damaged more or less using the second factor analysis. To verify this, we used the forest fire images collected from the satellite images and the actual survey data collected from spectral radiometer to see if these two datawere correlated and as a result we found out that they were highly involved.

Our country's coast is vulnerable area to natural disaster which the repetitive damages occur every year including a loss of lives, the damage of facilities and erosion mostly except for the east coast because of a typhoon, tidal waves, sea water overflowing by topographic structure of low-lying gentle slope and shallow sea. However, as for prevention of natural disaster occurring every year, the situation is that it's centered on the restorationcentered measures and the general disaster prevention research to minimize damages at the time of disaster occurrence is insufficient. This study intendedlop t to devehe techniques possible for real time sampling of damage prediction areas on Web in order to support decision making for damage prevention and establishment of disaster prevention policy. For this, the thematic map was produced related to disaster based on high-resolution satellite picture, and the environmental DB similar to real world was constructed through topographic construction of three-dimension integrating the parts of land and the sea. In addition, the system was developed possible for the expression of damageable regions by real time grasp of dangerous regions at the time of disaster occurrence through over flowing simulation of three-dimension, and it's intended to prepare a basis to minimize damages to disaster situations through it.
This review is concerned with the MP (multipactor) phenomena of the diplexer for RFDU DM of next generation satellite. The MP discharge is serious problems to design RF components in space applications such ase damage of physical structure, performance degradation, and mission failure of the satellite. In this work, we employed the 3D finite element method (FEM) to calculate the critical gap points and adopted ESTEC curve, MP susceptibility zone, to analyze the maximum handling RF power in the diplexer. And this work also recommends that one should design the tx filter of the diplexer which is more wider bandwidth upto the points to escape the ears of the group delay especially the cavity type of RF components in space applications.
Drawing on its extensive experience with natural disasters, Japan has been dispatching Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) team to disaster-stricken countries to provide specialist assistance in rescue and medical operations. The JDR team has assisted in the wake of disasters including the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake in China. Information about the affected area is essential for a rapid disaster response. However, it can be difficult to gather information on damages in the immediate post-disaster period. To help overcome this problem, we have built on an Earthquake Damage Estimation System. This system makes it possible to produce distributions of the earthquake's seismic intensity and structural damage based on pre-calculated data such as landform and site amplification factors for Peak Ground Velocity, which are estimated from a Digital Elevation Model, as well as population distribution. The estimation result can be shared with the JDR team and with other international organizations through communications satellite or the Internet, enabling more effective rapid relief operations.

This study estimated the forest damage of Kangwon-Do fire disaster occurred April 2005. For the estimation, the delineation of fire damaged area was performed using SPOT-4 satellite image and DSM (Digital surface model)/DTM (Digital Terrain Model) was generated by airborne and ground LiDAR data to calculate forests height. The damaged amount of money was calculated in forest area using stand volume formula, combining the canopy height from forest height model and digital stock map. The total forest damage amounted to 3.9 billion won.

Damage of rivers construction is serious to natural disaster by concentration rainfall in summer. Specially, increase of soil erosion breeds flood calamity of river bed accumulation and pondage decline etc., and erosion increase in upper stream shows in rivers flood of earth and sand, farm land and form of urban district burying. Flood damage investigation through on-the-spot probe until present need effective and scientific modelling techniques because is not efficient. This research wished to examine practical use of monitoring data of high resolution satellite image through satellite image analysis of various space resolution. Research analyzed abstraction possibility of soil disaster information using high resolution satellite image. Also, studied soil disaster damage present condition interpretation practical use possibility through various resolution satellite image analysis, and studied practical use of KOMPSAT image for interpretation of river topography change analysis.
