Fourteen model pile load tests using a calibration chamber and instrumented model pile were preformed to investigate the variation of the behaviors of driven piles in sands with soil and lateral cyclic loading conditions. Results of the model tests showed that the first loading cycle generated more than 70% of the pile head rotation developed for 50 lateral loading cycles. Lateral cyclic loading also made an increase of the ultimate lateral load capacity of piles for $K_0$=0.4 and an decrease for $K_0$ higher than 0.4. Higher portion of the increase or decrease in the ultimate lateral load capacity by lateral cyclic loading was generated for the first loading cycle due to densification of loosening of the soil around the pile by lateral cyclic loading. It was also observed that a two-way cyclic loading caused higher ultimate lateral load capacity of driven piles than a one-way cyclic loading. When the pile was in the ultimate state, the maximum bending moment developed in the pile increased with increasing $K_0$ value of soil and was insensitive to the magnitude and number of lateral cyclic loading.

The main objective of this paper is to develop an improved model for the analysis of liquefaction potential and to predict excess pore pressure (EPP) using the proposed model that can simulate behavior of saturated sand under earthquake loading conditions. The damage concept is adopted for the development of the proposed model. For the development of the model, a general formulation based on experimental results and damage potential using cumulative absolute velocity (CAV) is proposed for a more realistic description of dynamic responses of saturated sand. Undrained dynamic triaxial tests are conducted using earthquake loading conditions. Based on test results, the NCER-NCW function in terms of $w_d$ and CAV is developed. Procedure for the evaluation of EPP and determination of model parameters for the proposed model is presented as well. For the determination of initial liquefaction, the minimum curvature method using the NCS-NCW curve is proposed. It is observed that predicted initial liquefaction using the proposed method agrees well with measured initial liquefaction. From results of additional undrained dynamic triaxial tests, it is seen that predicted EPP generation using the proposed model agrees well with measured results for earthquake loading cases.

In this study, SCP method was used by purpose to improve loose sand and soft clay that is drilled Sand Compaction Pile in underground. Settlement behavior of field analyzed through SCP method. When sand Compaction Pile drilled in clay, forming composite ground that foundation and Sand Compaction Pile behavior. According to SCP method can expect bearing capacity improvement, Settlement reduction, lateral flow protection. SCP increase the consolidation settlement of ground and it reduce settlement for that purpose increase liquefaction resistance, lateral Resistance. Because SCP had been widely used for sand. Area of Inchon-A by sand compose clay and silt to upper Ground and compose soft clay to under ground. After pre-loading, it measured settlement by extensometer and settlement extensometer that purpose of ground improvement with 13% in replacement ratio. The result analyzed settlement behavior is similar to Multi-layered Ground that it happened to elastic settlement at upper ground and to consolidation settlement at under ground.
A total of 104 laboratory model tests on a square footing subjected to eccentrically inclined loads supported by sand reinforced with randomly distributed polypropylene fibers were conducted in order to compare the results with those obtained from unreinforced sand and with each other. For conducting the model tests, uniform sand was compacted in a test box at one particular relative density of compaction. The effect of percentage of reinforcement used, thickness of the reinforced layer, angle of inclination of load to vertical and eccentricity of load applied on various prominent factors such as ultimate load, vertical settlement, horizontal deformation and tilt were investigated. An improvement in ultimate load, vertical settlement, horizontal deformation and tilt of foundation was observed with an increase in the percentage of fibers used and thickness of reinforced sand layer under different inclinations and eccentricities of load. A statistical model using non-linear regression analysis based on present experimental data for predicting the vertical settlement ($s_p$), horizontal deformation ($hd_p$) and tilt ($t_p$) of square footing on reinforced sand at any load applied was done where the dependent variable was predicted settlement ($s_p$), horizontal deformation ($hd_p$) and tilt ($t_p$) respectively.
A compression to tensile load transforming (CTT) device was developed to determine indirect tensile strength of concrete material. Before CTT test, Particle flow code was used for the determination of the standard dimension of physical samples. Four numerical models with different dimensions were made and were subjected to tensile loading. The geometry of the model with ideal failure pattern was selected for physical sample preparation. A concrete slab with dimensions of $15{\times}19{\times}6cm$ and a hole at its center was prepared and subjected to tensile loading using this special loading device. The ratio of hole diameter to sample width was 0.5. The samples were made from a mixture of water, fine sand and cement with a ratio of 1-0.5-1, respectively. A 30-ton hydraulic jack with a load cell applied compressive loading to CTT with the compressive pressure rate of 0.02 MPa per second. The compressive loading was converted to tensile stress on the sample because of the overall test design. A numerical modeling was also done to analyze the effect of the hole diameter on stress concentrations of the hole side along its horizontal axis to provide a suitable criterion for determining the real tensile strength of concrete. Concurrent with indirect tensile test, the Brazilian test was performed to compare the results from two methods and also to perform numerical calibration. The numerical modeling shows that the models have tensile failure in the sides of the hole along the horizontal axis before any failure under shear loading. Also the stress concentration at the edge of the hole was 1.4 times more than the applied stress registered by the machine. Experimental Results showed that, the indirect tensile strength was clearly lower than the Brazilian test strength.
A study on the undrained behavior of isotropically consolidated clay-sand mixtures was carried out using the automated triaxial testing apparatus. Overconsolidated ratio, effective mean pressure and clay content( up to 20% bentonite) were the factors varied in the experimental investigation. Undrained behavior(strength and pore water pressure generation during shear in triaxial loading) depends upon overconsolidation ratio, confining pressure and clay content. Significant changes in undrained compression characteristics occurred at around 20% of clay contents in the sand. The test results were analyzed and their behaviors were interpreted within the framework of plasticity constitutive model for clay-sand mixtures. Possible physical bases for the proposed forms are discussed. Validation of the applied model using the laboratory results is also given.

This paper is focused on studying the undrained cyclic triaxial behavior of saturated Nak-dong River sand, using anisotropically consolidated specimens. A test of isotropically consolidated specimens was performed to compare the results of the anisotropically consolidated specimens. The cyclic shear stre3ngth of the sand under various combinations of initial static shear stress and relative density was considered. Failure was defined as a 5% double amplitude cyclic strain and a 5% residual axial strain for both reversal stress and no reversal stress conditions. Using this definition, the cyclic strength of the anisotropically consolidated specimens was affected by the initial static shear stress. For anisotropically consolidated Nak-dong River dense sand, the cyclic strength is greater than that of Toyolura silica sand but is smaller than that of Dogs Bay carbonate sand. By comparing the experimental and predictecl results, it was possible to predict the residual pore pressure of Nak-dong River sand using Hyodo's model with initial static shear stress subjected cyclic loading.

This study investigates how to apply composite material to the blast loading protection devices, mainly used for military purpose. Traditionally, earth-filled blast walls have been used for protecting important parts of military facilities and personnels. However these types of blast walls show difficulty in fabrication and portability because of their nature of heavy weight. Composite materials are known to have relatively higher specific stiffness and strength than any other metallic and earth-filled materials such as sand and gravels. Totally 4 times of TNT blast experiments were performed on the carbon/epoxy blast walls. After the end of each test, the improvement of blast wall was implemented to the structure. The test results show that the use of composite material in the blast protecting area is the one of very effective and reliable alternatives.

This is a fundamental study aiming at scrutinizing the effect of reinforcement and deformation characteristics of soft clayey foundation improved by vanous technical treatments. Among many methods proposed thus far, geotextile was selected for the purpose of improvement of the model soil foundation on which plate loading test was subsequently performed. Loading test has been carried out with the variation of the location and number of covering layers of geotextile, and actual values for ground deformation and geotextile effect were secured. As for technique on deformation analysis, elasto-plastic model for soil, elastic model for sand, and beam theory for geotextile were coupled with satisfactory results between observed and numerical values.
The effects of synthetic fibers, cement content, and sand content on the flexural performance of cement-clay-sand mixtures has been evaluated through a flexural performance test with a third-point loading. Beam specimens for the flexural performance test were fabricated with a various amount of cement, sand, and synthetic fibers. Two types of fibers, PVA (Polyvinyl alcohol) and PP (Polypropylene) fibers, were employed in the test. The test results have exhibited that the factors considered in the test have significant effects on the flexural performance of the mixtures in several aspects. The flexural performance of the mixtures has been improved if the mixtures were reinforced with synthetic fibers. The flexural strength and the flexural toughness of the mixtures has been increased as the fiber content was increased. A multiple linear regression analysis has been performed to evaluate the effect of fiber content, cement dosage, and sand content on the flexural performance of the mixtures in terms of flexural strength and flexural toughness. Cement content and sand content were estimated as important factors to have an influence on the first-crack strength and the peak strength whereas the fiber content has the most significant influence on the post-crack behavior. The first-crack strength and the ultimate strength were increased as the cement content and the sand content were increased. As the fiber content was increased, the flexural toughness was increased.
