  • A full-scale instrumented low-rise building with gable roof was built at a coastal site with a high incidence of tropical cyclones for monitoring of wind effects on the building during windstorms. This paper presents the field measurements of the wind velocity field around and the wind-induced pressures on the low-rise building during the passage of severe tropical storm Soudelor. Near-ground wind characteristics such as wind speed, wind direction, turbulence intensity, gust factor, turbulence integral length scale and wind velocity spectra were investigated. The wind-induced pressures on the roof of the building were analyzed and discussed. The results revealed that the eave and ridge edges on the roof were subjected to the most severe suction pressures under quartering winds. These suction pressures showed obvious non-Gaussian behavior. The measured results were compared with the provisions of ASCE 7-10 to assess the suitability of the code of practice for the wind-resistant design of low-rise buildings under tropical cyclones. The field study aims to provide useful information that can enhance our understanding of the extreme wind effects on low-rise buildings in an effort to reduce tropical cyclone wind damages to residential buildings.

  • In case of Korea, The Large-scale fire is consistently being such as 2015 Uijeongbu Fire, 2017 Jecheon Fire, 2018 Sejong Hospital Fire. Such a fire has a problem that the fire is spreading upper due to external flame spread. As a countermeasure the fire safety, the study about axial temperature prediction of external flame spread is consistently doing. But in korea, Vertical spandrel is specified as 40cm, and improvement is urgently needed. In this study, a repair material was selected to prevent the fire from spreading to a building where a flammable exterior material was installed and then pilot construction was carried out. Also, fire safety measures for buildings constructed with flammable exterior materials were examined.

  • The fire that broke out in a residential and commercial complex in Ulsan in October 2020 was large, but no deaths occurred. For this reason, there was a difference from the previous cases, so it was analyzed through field survey. The fire was expanded to the entire building by aluminum composite panels constructed by external heat method and SMC panels in evacuation safety zones, and fire was expanded to nearby mart due to wind on the day of the fire, and there were many evacuation spaces such as 15th, 28th, and rooftop heliports.

  • About 70% of the data generated on building construction sites consists of unstructured data, such as text, photos, videos, etc. However, the text data, which constitutes the largest proportion of unstructured data, has been restrictively utilized. When using standardized data to evaluate safety performance, there are a few difficulties in addressing issues such as lack of data, omissions, and errors. This copes with limitations on the practical evaluation of safety performance on building construction sites. Despite generating extensive text-centric documents, the previous researches on evaluating safety performance levels using unstructured data are still in its infancy. This study proposes a framework for evaluating the safety performance by preprocessing and refining text-based construction supervision documents. In this framework, relevant keywords related to safety performance are extracted from supervision documents, tokenized, and analyzed for association rules among keywords. Based on the results of the association rule analysis, keywords are selected, and the unsatisfactory or satisfactory level of safety performance is quantified using logistic regression analysis, considering the frequency of their occurrence. While the proposed framework focuses on quantifying the safety performance levels of construction sites, it can be expanded to implement integrated performance diagnostics on-site by linking with tools that evaluate diverse performance levels. This extension will allow for a comprehensive assessment of on-site performance. Furthermore, the framework can serve as a tool supporting practical and proactive inspections and responses of safety managers by utilizing unstructured data alongside the traditional approach focused on standardized data for safety performance assessment.

  • Nuclear containment building is used as second blockage to protect us from a radiation leakage caused by the natural disaster or any accidents, so it's safety is important and must be kept with continuous surveillance. In this study, we measured the strain of a nuclear containment building's wall by using FBG sensor and investigated the structural safety of a nuclear containment building. 50 FBG strain sensors and 18 FBG strain sensors were attached on the side wall and upper dome of a nuclear containment building, respectively. We measured the strains of the outside concrete wall during the Structural Integrity Test (SIT) of a nuclear containment building. The strain of an upper dome was larger than that of a side wall, about $200{\mu}{\varepsilon}$. And the very small strain was measured at vertical direction of a side wall. These experimental results were used to evaluate the structural health of nuclear containment building.

  • Looking at recent safety accidents in buildings, most of them due to lack of FM expertise, and this is due to human resources. In each all industry areas, some companies are competitive, representational, and leading in the market through long-term expertise and research in their respective fields. In the field of FM industry, some companies offer core-competencies in internal and external innovative building management through competition with others. However, old custom and old management form still exist in the FM field. However, an old custom and old management system still exist in the FM field; it forces cost-cutting and caused by carelessness in technical development competitiveness and safety measures. The government control by safety inspection and facility inspection through legislation of building management, but the management is still weak as a side of in the facility management section due to inspect sth as a mere formality and submit a paper report. These facts exist different kind of usage of the building have a three-party encounter between a building owner, user, and FM enterprises. In this research identify survey, especially building owner (manager)'s choice perception priority for optional factors to choose FM enterprises. Based on this, FM enterprises will be forced to seek a new dimension for better building management. In this light, the purpose of the research is to shape changes in the FM market culture safely and providing better service in building management and understanding building owner's insight through this research's information.

  • As global climate change leaded to extensive natural disaster and radical deterioration of infrastructures, there was increased attentions for the evaluation of infrastructures. After the collapse of Seongsu Bridge in 1994, Korea has enacted the "Special act on safety and maintenance of facilities" and secured the safety of facilities using systematic and periodic safety inspections. However, current facility inspections are mainly performed by the physical defect and structural analysis, and do not properly consider the serviceability of infrastructure such as capacity of facility and user's satisfaction. Thus, the purpose of the study is to develop an evaluation criteria for serviceability of infrastructures and finally leading to the revision of "Special Act on safety and maintenance of facilities in rational manner.

  • This study focuses on improving quality management system of naval ships to enhance safety. Recently, there were problems caused by the lack of quality management system when building Korea naval ships. Foreign naval ships are designed and built through certification by professional organizations in the commercial sector to reduce budget and enhance ship safety. Merchant ships are designed, built, operated and maintained by the organizations in accordance with the Ship Safety Act. When naval ships are exported, the ordering country requires the certification from the international classification to ensure the safety and reliability of ships. Through this study, as a method of improving the quality management system of naval ships, design verification, equipment certification and construction survey using expertise of the organizations are proposed when designing and building the naval ships.

  • Although the disaster rate of the industry as a whole is on a downward trend, the disaster rate of the construction industry is on an ongoing trend. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed safety accident statistical data of the construction site over the past three years. As a result of the analysis, the incidence of disasters at small construction sites was very high. And the proportion of disaster occurred for workers who worked in less than 6 months even roughly 92.6%. In addition, as a result of analyzing the form of disaster occurrence, the crash was 34.1% and the fall was 15.1%. The analysis results of these construction safety accidents are to provide as a basic material for developing a policy that can prevent safety accidents and a safety accident prediction model.

  • In Singapore, the construction industry's performance in safety has often been the worst among the other industries. This paper seeks to compare the efforts of the shipbuilding and repair industry and the construction industry in improving the level of safety performance. One key factor identified in the paper will be the subcontractors' role in the safety aspect. Based on the analysis of statistic carried out by the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore and many others, this paper aims to identify the success of the shipbuilding and repair industry and gives thought as to how the construction industry can further improve its safety record.
