The ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector is a ㄱ type flat steel plate with a number of holes punched through. This connector can be effectively used in girder with high shear. The ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector exhibit very stiff behaviour under service load conditions and also had the characteristic of retaining a significant amount of load after the attainment of ultimate capacity. The ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector with safety factor of 3 is applied shear connector of CFT composite girder. From static test result of CFT composite girder, relative displacement of 0.01mm measured at the service load moment. At design of the ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector, applying safety factor of 3 was more conservative than test result.
The author studied the stability Tualities of stern trawlers in the North Pacific Ocean according to Kato's simple judging method. The author selected 1,000 gross tonnage of A and B types, and calculated each characteristics for various conditions under 5 different free-board and S different KG. Finally, authour obtained some data of stability factors for the two types, and pointed out the zone of safety and danger between stability factor, GM and GZ max. The results obtained here are summarized as follows: The A type of ship is judged that it has the condition of safety when displacement is 2,400 tonnage and the value of K¢ was 3.40m or 3.70m. The B type of ship is judged that it only has the condition of some safety when displacement was 2,400 tonnage and the value of KG is 3.40 m, but ships of the both types have the condition of danger when displacement is 1,300-2,200 tonnage and the value of KG is 3.40-4.60m. Any types of ships under various condition must have appropriate dimensions among GM, free-oard and GZ max for the stability of ships.
This study was carried out for safety evaluation, the practical application and improvement of design method of the agricultural reservoir embankment according to backside extension. Seepage analysis, slope stability analysis and finite element analysis were performed for steady state and transient conditions. Also, the pore water pressure, seepage quantity, safety factor and stress-strain behavior according to high water level and rapid drawdown were compared and analyzed. The pore water pressure at contact region between backside extension and old embankment was kept high after rapid drawdown. Therefore, backside extension is recommended that design method is required to be improved and reinforced more than the others raising embankment. The hydraulic gradients before and after backside extension showed high value at the base of the core, but they showed stable state at the upstream slope and downstream slope. The seepage quantity per 1 day and the leakage per 100 m for the steady state and transient conditions appeared to be safe against the piping. The safety factor of slope stability showed high at the steady state, and transient conditions did not show differences depending on the rapid drawdown. The safety factor was appeared high at the upstream slope before backside extension and downstream slope after extension. The excess pore water pressure for steady state and transient conditions showed negative(-) at the upstream slope, it was small at the downstream slope. The mean effective stress (p') showed high at the base of the core and to be wild distribution after the extension. The displacement after extension showed 0.02-0.06 m in the upstream slope, the maximum shear strain after extension was smaller than that before extension.
Field monitoring data for embankments in thirteen road construction sites at coastal area of the Korean Peninsula were analyzed to investigate the characteristics of lateral flow in soft grounds, to which vertical drain methods were applied. First of all, the effect of the embankment scale on the lateral flow was investigated. Thicker soft soils and lager relative embankment scale produced more horizontal displacements in soft grounds. Especially, if thick soft grounds were placed, the relative embankment scale, which was given by the ratio of thickness of soft ground to the bottom width of embankments, became larger and in turn large horizontal displacement was produced. And also higher filling velocity of embankments induced more horizontal displacements in soft grounds. The other major factors affecting the lateral flow in soft ground were the thickness and undrained shear strength of soft grounds, the soil modulus and the stability number. Maximum horizontal displacement was induced by less undrained shear strength and soil modulus of soft grounds. Also more stability numbers produced more maximum horizontal displacements. When the shear deformation does not develop, the stability number was less than 3.0 and the safety factor of bearing was more than 1.7. However, if the stability number was more than 5.14 and the safety factor of bearing was less than 1.0, the unstable shear failure developed in soft ground. 50mm can be recommended as a criterion of the allowable maximum horizontal displacement to prevent the shear deformation in soft ground, while 100mm can be recommended as a criterion of the allowable maximum horizontal displacement to prevent the shear failure in soft ground.

This paper explains outline of a behavior analysis program for underground structures, and its application to a tunnel problem. The program can deal with elasto-plastic behavior of medium and supporting structures, discontinuous behavior due to existing joint, creation and propagation of cracks. in-situ loading condition, and incremental behavior due to stepwise excavation, etc. The program also has additional capabilities such as graphic output of mesh, displacement pattern, stress condition, and safety factor contour, and automatic mesh generation during the excavation steps.
The following results were obtained by analyzing the displacement, strain and stability of ground at the soft ground excavation using sheet pile. 1. Before setting the strut, the horizontal displacement was large on the upper part of excavated side, but after setting the strut, it showed concentrated phenomenon while being moved to go down to the excavated side. 2. After setting the strut, the displacement of sheet pile was rapidly decreased about a half compared with before setting the strut. The limitation of excavation depth was shown approximately GL-8m after setting double stair strut. 3. Maximum shear strain was gradually increased with depth of excavation, and local failure possibility due to shear deformation at the bottom of excavation was decreased by reinforcement of strut. 4. Maximum horizontal displacement of sheet pile at GL-7.5m was shown 0.2% of excavation depth in elasto-plastic method, and 0.6% in finite-element methods, and the maximum displacement was occurred around the bottom of excavation. 5. To secure the safety factor about penetration depth in the ground of modeling, D/H should be more than 0.89 in the case of one stair strut, and more than 0.77 in the case of double stair strut. 6. The relation of safety factor and D/H about the penetration depth was appeared, Fs=0.736(D/H) + 0.54 in the case of one stair strut, and Fs=0.750(D/H) + 0.62 in the case of double stair strut.

An analytical model was developed to understand the physics and predict the functional performance of a pin puller. The formulated model is based on one-dimensional gas dynamics for an ideal gas. Resistive forces against pin shaft movement were measured in quasi-static mechanical tests, the results of which were incorporated into the model. The expansion chamber pressure and the pin shaft displacement were measured from an actual firing test and compared to the model prediction. The gas generation rate was adjusted by a correction factor, and the heat transfer rate was obtained through parametric analysis. The validity of the model is assessed for additional firing tests with different amounts of pyrotechnic charge. This model can provide knowledge on how the pin puller functions, and on which design parameters contribute the most to the actuation of the pin puller. Using this model, we estimate the functional safety factor by comparing the energy generated by the pyrotechnic charge to the energy required to accomplish the function.

Elastomeric bearing is used as one of the most useful way for isolation structures, because the horizontal stiffness is much lower than the vertical stiffness. In the design criteria of Elastomeric bearing, the stability of the bearings is evaluated by shear strain due to compression, lateral displacement, and rotation. The question how soft rubber can sustain heavy structure is now able to be solved by Ultimate capacity test of Laminated Elastomeric Bearings, which results 1,200kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ of the max. compressive stress and this shows what a sufficient safety factor Elastomeric bearing has !

This paper describes the seismic performance evaluation of reinforced concrete bridge columns under constant and varying axial forces. For this purpose, nine identical circular reinforced concrete columns were designed seismically by KIBSE (2021) and KCI (2021). A comparison of lateral forces with theoretical strength shows that the safety factor for columns under varying axial forces is less marginal than those under constant axial forces. In addition, columns under varying axial forces exhibit significant fluctuations in the hysteretic response due to continuously varying axial forces. This is particularly prominent when many varying axial force cycles within a specific lateral loading cycle increase. Moreover, the displacement ductility of columns under varying axial forces does not meet the code-specified required ductility in the range of varying axial forces. All varying axial forces affect columns' strength, stiffness, and displacement ductility. Therefore, axial force variation needs to be considered in the lateral strength evaluation of reinforced concrete bridge columns.
A landslide was occurred due to soil cutting for construction to expand the Donghae express highway in Dong-hae-City, Korea. The total area of the landslide was about $9,550m^2$ with 100 m of width and 87m of height. The landslide was occurred due to the internal factor of the unstable geological structure including the clay layer and the external factor of continuous heavy rainfalls. As the result of field instrumentation during the landslide, the horizontal displacement of the slope ground increases with increasing the accumulated rainfall by continuous rainfall during the rainy season. Also, the depth of sliding failure was decided by the horizontal displacement distribution during landslide occurrence. It makes sure that the horizontal displacement starts from the depth of sliding failure and the depth of sliding failure matches well with the location of the clay layer. As the slope stability analysis using Bishop's Simplified Method at the landslide area, the safety factor of slope during the rainy season was 0.53. This safety factor of slope was enough to trigger the landslide at this area. The depth of sliding failure obtained by analytical method matches well with the depth of the clay layer.
