In general, the causes of the electrical fire are overcurrent, short circuit, poor contact, etc. This study is aimed to recognize the risk of electric arc to prevent electrical fires due to the conductive dust accumulated on the circuit breaker. The experiment was carried out by the method that conductive metal dust collected from the field is being accumulated on the experimental electrodes with gap of 13 mm until the arc is generated. In case that arc was generated, the amount of conductive dust was measured and the thickness was calculated. This experiments was conducted by particle size. In order to distinguish particle size, mesh size(60~100, 100~150, 150~200, 200~250mesh) was classified using a sieve. As the results of experiment for each of the particle sizes, it was confirmed that there is differences in the generation of arc depending on the thickness of dust accumulated.
The Korean nuclear industry developed the SPACE (Safety and Performance Analysis Code for nuclear power plants) code and this code adpots two-phase flows, two-fluid, three-field models which are comprised of gas, continuous liquid and droplet fields and has a capability to simulate three-dimensional model. According to the revised law by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) in Korea, the multiple failure accidents that must be considered for accident management plan of nuclear power plant was determined based on the lessons learned from the Fukushima accident. Generally, to improve the reliability of the calculation results of a safety analysis code, verification work for separate and integral effect experiments is required. In this reason, the goal of this work is to verify calculation capability of SPACE code for multiple failure accident. For this purpose, it was selected the experiment which was conducted to simulate a Multiple Steam Generator Tube Rupture(MSGTR) accident with Passive Auxiliary Feedwater System(PAFS) operation by Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and focused that the comparison between the experiment results and code calculation results to verify the performance of the SPACE code. The MSGR accident has a unique feature of the penetration of the barrier between the Reactor Coolant System (RCS) and the secondary system resulting from multiple failure of steam generator U-tubes. The PAFS is one of the advanced safety features with passive cooling system to replace a conventional active auxiliary feedwater system. This system is passively capable of condensing steam generated in steam generator and feeding the condensed water to the steam generator by gravity. As the results of overall system transient response using SPACE code showed similar trends with the experimental results such as the system pressure, mass flow rate, and collapsed water level in component. In conclusion, it could be concluded that the SPACE code has sufficient capability to simulate a MSGTR accident.
This study was intended to find methods of fire extinguishing system designs that can improve the equipment's usability. In this study, the fire suppression experiment through fire extinguishers and the data drawn through the experiment were analyzed, and then the guideline for the improvement of designs was presented. The procedure is as follows. A fire suppression experiment with the use of fire extinguishers was done by 43 average adults. The whole process of the fire suppression was videotaped, and then captured major scenes were analyzed with the use of RULA, a human engineering measurement tool. The analyzed data were divided into 4 steps, and then the guideline for design improvement was presented. The summary of the study is as follows. Step 1, Fire extinguisher distance step. To reduce overload occurring at the process of holding fire extinguishers suddenly, wheels are attached to the body of extinguishers, or pedestals are installed. Step 2, Fire extinguisher transportation step. The length of hose is extended, or fire fighting water is sprayed far, so that overload of legs occurring at the process of travel can be reduced. In addition, the weight of fire extinguisher shouldn't be over 2 kg. Step 3, Safety pin removal stage. Safety pins should be applied with button type, so that excessive posture of lower limbs and excessive twisting of wrists won't happen during safety pin removal process. Besides, safety pins should be designed for easy identification and operation. Step 4, Fire extinguishing agent spraying step. To reduce overload occurring at sudden spraying of fire fighting water, pressure should be increased gradually until high pressure. With the above study results applied to existing fire extinguisher design, it may contribute to reducing any fire damage.
In the Oriental Medicine, the physical constitution of a human being can be classified into five characteristic elements. The remedy based on the five elements constitution has revealed excellent clinical effects so far. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to conduct job design researches considering the five elements constitution for improving the efficiency and safety of job. In this study, we examine whether the theory can be applied for job design through the experiment by ‘Digital-type Speed Anticipation Reaction Tester’ or not and suggest the desirable direction of job design.
There were many reports on the natural antioxidants, but only tocopherol has been widely used despite of its high market price because of its recognized safety. On the other hands, antimicrobial effects of various plant extracts also have been extensively studied. There exist many substances showing antimicrobial activity in plants and their activities have been studied.
A calculation model is developed to predict the transient free surface flow on the containment floor following a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) of pressurized water reactors (PWR) for the use of debris transport evaluation. The model solves the two-dimensional Shallow Water Equation (SWE) using a finite volume method (FVM) with unstructured triangular meshes. The numerical scheme is based on a fully explicit predictor-corrector method to achieve a fast-running capability and numerical accuracy. The Harten-Lax-van Leer (HLL) scheme is used to reserve a shock-capturing capability in determining the convective flux term at the cell interface where the dry-to-wet changing proceeds. An experiment simulating a sudden break of a water reservoir with L-shape open channel is calculated for validation of the present model. It is shown that the present model agrees well with the experiment data, thus it can be justified for the free surface flow with accuracy. From the calculation of flow field over the simplified containment floor of APR1400, the important phenomena of free surface flow including propagations and interactions of waves generated by local water level distribution and reflection with a solid wall are found and the transient flow rates entering the Holdup Volume Tank (HVT) are obtained within a practical computational resource.
In this paper, the arc and flame characteristics of wires were studied during a short-circuit. The short-circuit angle between wires was fixed as $90^{\circ}$ and the experiments were conducted on bare copper wires by varying the diameter of wires. The arc and flame patterns were taken by a high speed imaging system. The direction of arc and flame was explained with Lorentz force. After the short-circuit experiment, the shapes of molten wires were analyzed by a stereo microscope. In the results of experiment, the arc and flame of wires showed particular patterns. The flame characteristics by the diameter of wires were analyzed using a HSIS. We could find out the arc characteristics of wires which were different by the diameter.

This paper discribes an experimental explosion risk assessment study on refrigerators containing flammable hydrocarbon refrigerant. A refrigerator used in this study is a larder fridge type, 215 liter in volume. The hydrocarbon refrigerant used in the refrigerator is iso-butane(C$_4$H$_{10}$). For the explosion safety assessment of the refrigerator, temperature of compressor, cooling air circulation fan motor, defrost heater and inner lamp were measured during the operation. And to confirm the ignitablity of flammable gas by the electric spark of the switches of the refrigerator, ON-OFF test of all switches were conducted with compulsorily near the stoichiometric concentration atmosphere of iso-butane-air mixture. As the result of experiment above mentioned and another experiment for the explosion safety assessment, we can conclude that explosion hazard in connection with the use of hydrocarbon refrigerant was few.w.
