  • In this research, an attempt is made to derive the practical estimation of the degree of consolidation in soft clay from field measurements under embankments. For the practical estimation of pore water pressure in soft clay, the elasto-viscous rheological model was proposed, with a transform of parameters and a field geotechnical measurements in southern Korea. By using the rheological properties of soft clays and the dissipation of excess pore water pressure behaviour during step loading, a degree of consolidation or pore water pressure estimation in the future can be performed, and are shown to be generally close to the field measurements of pore water pressure. Finally, a pore water pressure behaviour in soft clay can be explained through measured data in field and the excess pore water pressure data can also be used to estimate settlement.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of vegetation on the cutting slope applied by vegetation system in the whole land. The engineering characteristics of slopes were investigated using the face mapping and physical tests. From the statistical methods, a relationship between a geologic stratum and degree of covering was independent. Therefore, the afforestation of slope was affected more by condition of vegetation as direction and opening of joints, and a topsoil state than by conventional classification of layer. It was concluded that the adjustable vegetation on the slope considering condition of geometric shape of slope, joint data and spontaneous type could make useful early afforestation.

  • With their deity groves, Japanese Shinto shrines form unique green spaces. Further, many shrines are located between a settlement and the rural or natural environment. This location relates to the nature-worship of the Shinto tradition. However, when visiting present shrine precincts, it gives the impression that their original landscape location and green space is impaired by urban changes. This study focuses on the point how the scenic condition of district shrines at the fringe of Tokyo is challenged in the present, and presents an example of a successful preservation in the urban area. The key point of such preservation is that it goes beyond the shrine precinct itself. If there still exists a natural or beautiful scenery next to a shrine with some distinct historical or religious relationship, both shrine and scenery should be preserved together.

  • The concept of ‘Open Space’ is conceived to be very valuable subject of interest in developing modern settlement system. In Korea, many new and old residential sites have been developed or renewed to fulfil the housing demands. And such trends seem to continue for the time being. What is more, the requirments for more comfortable residential environments, that is deeply concerned with ‘Open Space’, inorease gradually. As a basis for designing more efficent residential environments to fit Korean morden life style, self - grown, traditional and agricultural villages are studied. This study is concenturated on the Open Space System with its socio - cultural and physical backgrounds. For this, data and materials are some widely collected and are analysed focused on the systems and structures of ‘Open Spaee’. Some results from this study are summarized as follow ; 1. It is assumed that the number of houses per village is around 60, and that its area reaches to the radious of 3-4km. 2. ‘POONGSU’is a generally adopted theory based on natural elements like mountians, waters, and orientations when locating villages and composing their spatial structures. As a result of this, the basic structures of villages and Open Space are defined. 3. Circulation system is integrated to the hierachyal order system ; that is, Passing Road \longrightarrowEntry Road\longrightarrowCentral Read\longrightarrowDisperse and Access Road. 4. The natural and agricultural land uses are overlapped with diverse outdoor activities - religious services, play and recreation, relaxation, etc - without any physical modification. 5. At each villages, several artificial and spot - like green facilities are found. And distinctive functions, meanings, and locationalities are given to each of them. On that, they become a visual and psychological centers of each village. 6. In addition to its basic function of circulation, Central Road takes the sence of place for outdoor activities. Because of this charactor, it plays an important role of activating the village life and binding the various Open Space elements.

For the purpose, residential preference and values on the residential district were estimated according to the housing life cycle. Data were collected through questionnaires designed for this study, and the objects of this research were university students. To analyze the data were used spsswin program. The major results were as follows. 1. According to the housing life cycle, there were significant differences in the preference of the residential district, living area and housing type in the future. Metropolitan and seoul, residential area and commercial area, apartment, office-hotel and row house were preferred in the housing formative. In the stable period, seoul and metropolitan, tower apartment, residential area were preferred. But in the housing reductive period, they preferred a green zone in the rural, the detached house. 2. The degree of consideration of living convenience facilities was high in the housing formative period. Both education-leisure, business facilities and marketing facilities were highly valuated in the housing stable period. But the value of welfare facilities was high in the housing reductive period. 3. The 4 dimensions of values in environmental conditions were extracted through factor analysis. They were natural, human, social, and economic factors. According to the housing life cycle, there were significant differences in factors being considered as the environmental conditions. The values of human and economic factors were high in the housing formative and stable period. Natural factor were highly considered in the housing reductive period.

  • In this paper, the purpose of this study is to melt the process of returning to farming through games and settle down in a stable manner to ensure that there are no more prospective young farmers who wish to return to farming but cannot proceed with their dreams due to various barriers of reality. The game was designed to develop in the order of fields, greenhouses, automation systems, and smart farms, and to grow the crops they want at the early level, and added a community system to highlight that rural areas are community life, not individualistic life. Support benefits or information provided by local governments or governments were inserted into the community system so that prospective farmers could naturally access the information.

  • Since 2000, people who lived in the city begin to see returning to farming in a new perspective. People returning to the farming became a trend and therefore, the number of people who are returning to farm are increasing. Because of the concept of take up farming is developing as an idea of establishing a new business, the government agency and the government-related organization are very supportive as the government is interested in the business. The conclusion is below regarding the analysis result In order to receive the analysis of actual proof, we conducted a survey targeting 300 people who returned to farming village in the whole country, excluding Jeju Island from Aug 1st 2013 to Aug 30th 2013. Except uncandidness answers, we used 252 survey results of our sample. Also we used SPSS Wim Ver. 18.0 to draw a conclusion regarding the collected sample. First, regarding of Hypothesis 1 "Personal characteristic will give positive effects in returning to farming village", was partially supportive Second, regarding of Hypothesis 2 "Reason of settling will give positive effects in returning to farming village", was partially supportive Third, regarding of Hypothesis 3 "Geographic characteristics will give positive effects in returning to farming village", was partially supportive Fourth, the effect of social support between the individual characteristic, reason of settling, and geographic characteristics, the result indicated that the social support was partially supportive in farm returners regarding reason of settlement. However, there were no social support effect in returning to farm satisfaction regarding of geographic characteristic. Fifth, after analysing the difference of personal characteristic regarding demographic characteristic, reason of settlement, and geographic characteristic, the result indicated that people who are age 40+, who graduated graduate school lived in metropolitan city, settling to Jeollabuk-do felt higher satisfaction of returning to village than people who are in their 30s, graduated university, lived in city/district, and now settling to Kyung-book and Choong-nam.

  • User movement is an important factor in determining the amount of the acquired knowledge and information about space contexts. A reasonable circulation plan affects the spatial usage, space revitalization, and activity satisfaction, and is ultimately a means to increase spatial usefulness. On the other hand, a disorderly circulation system causes negative experiences due to difficulties in wayfinding. This research identified the importance of a pedestrian circulation system analyzing the correlation between the spatial configuration index and pedestrian movement, and visitors' movement in the leisure space by using Space Syntax. The research area, Ouam-ri, where numerous guests visit this designated folk village, is a typical case in which a settlement space is used as a leisure space. There was a great deal of risk that visitors would get lost while wandering through the space. Also, it is difficult to induce visitors to tour economically even though the pedestrian circulation configuration of Ouam-ri forms the natural moving line because of its typical tree structure. Additionally adjusting and to supplementing the pedestrian system is required in order for the traditional village, a settlement space, to be used as a leisure space.

  • The experiment of model soil structures has been executed for the soil retaining wall in various conditions of excavation, in this study, to analyze the behavior of the corner of opening. The ground for experiment has been constituted with the sandy soil of relatively loose density, the construction condition has been divided into the opening length of corner, embedded depth, existence of strut, etc., and the excavation has been carried out for 4 stages in total. The behavior characteristics at the corner of opening area has been verified by concentrate analysis of the displacement of wall and the subsidence of ground surface, for each construction and excavation condition, using the measuring instrument mounted inside the model soil structure. In the result of experiment, it has been analyzed that the opening area of corner is unstable structurally compared to the linear area, as it shows that the wall displacement and subsidence of ground surface have been increased when the opening length of corner gets longer. The longer the embedded depth, ground surface settlement of coner was decreased 40%. To apply deeper embedded depth than designed estimate was an advantage in the safety. As a result of the analysis of coner behavior with added struts, maximum surface settlement and maximum horizontal displacement was evaluated 40% and 30%, respectively. Hence increased embedded depth with the added struts in coner edge was effective in the safety.
