The purpose of this study is to examine appropriate sub-basin division numbers that best reflect the hydrological characteristics of the basin so as to propose the criterion for dividing the sub-basin in analyzing flood runoff in the future. The characteristics of flood runoff variations were based on the WMS HEC-1 model, and the area in the upstream of the Dongbyeon water level observatory and the Geum-ho water level observatory was chosen for analysis, and examined the characteristics of the changes in flood runoff. First of all, in the targeted basin, if the sub-basin division number was 4 (that is, the area of the divided sub-basin was about 25% of the total area). Next, as the sub-basin division number gradually increased, the peak rate of runoff increased as well, and in case the sub-basin was not divided, the peak rate of runoff occurred at the earliest time. Given these results, the spatial change characteristics will be best reflected when the sub-basin is divided for analysis of flood runoff in such a way that the area of the divided sub-basin is about 25% of the total area of the basin. However, as these results are based on a limited number (4) of storms, more storm events and other basins need to be included in the review of the sub-basin division methodology.

Attention has increasingly focused on the pollutant load discharged from rural area since the enforcement of total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) in korea. As one of the methods to control the inflow of pollutant load during wet weather events, local governments are attempting to apply non-point source control facility. To design those facilities appropriately, it is essential to understand the runoff characteristics of pollutants such as TSS, $BOD_5$, $COD_{Cr}$, TP and TN. In the paper, the quantitative analyses for pollutant runoff characteristics were examined in a small rural watershed with the area of about 53 hectares. For a dry weather day and wet weather events, variation patterns of dry weather flow and runoff characteristics of wet weather flows were monitored and investigated. The runoff model using XP-SWMM reflecting the landuse types of the watershed in detail was simulated to perform the sensitivity analyses for several factors influencing on their hydrograph and pollutographs. As a result, for the case of medium and small rainfall events (i. e. total rainfall of 35.8 and 17.5 mm), the impervious area including green house, roof and road which covers relatively low portion of total area (i. e. 16%) caused substantial first flush and the majority of total runoff load. Therefore, it has been concluded that the runoff characteristics of each pollutant and distribution of impervious area should be considered for the establishment of the control strategy of non-point pollutant runoff at a rural area.

The objective of this research was to experimentally test the effect of tillage methods on the reduction of runoff, non-point source (NPS) pollution load, sediment and discharge under a rainfall simulation. We used the runoff plots of $5m{\times}30m$ ($L{\times}W$) in size. Experimental treatments were conventional tillage (CT), CT-rice straw bundle (CT-RSB) and two no-till (NT) plots; slope of 3 % or 8 % ; and rainfall intensity of 30 mm/hr. The rainfall simulation was conducted to three times. The time to initial runoff from NT plots was less than that from CT plots regardless of the slope and it was delayed about 65~90 % compared to that of CT plot. And sediment discharge of 8 % slope reduced to 55 % compared to CT plot. But the sediment discharge was not occurred at 3 % slope. The NT and CT-RSB methods have a great possibility of reducing runoff and NPS pollution loads. Runoff rate of NT plots was significantly lower than those of CT plot. The average NPS pollution loads of the NT plots and CT-RSB plot reduced about 55~80 % and 2.1~40 % compared to those of the CT plots, respectively. It was also shown that runoff and NPS pollution loads reduction by NT method could be very significant and contribute to improve the water quality of streams in agricultural regions. It was concluded that the use of NT method on agricultural fields could reduce soil erosion and muddy runoff significantly and help improve the water quality and aquatic ecosystem.
In this study, the U.S. Geological Survey's DR3M-II(Distributed Routing Rainfall-Runoff Model) was applied for small urban drainage. DR3M-II is a watershed model for routing storm runoff through a branched system of pipes and natural channels using rainfall input. The model was calibrated and verified using short term rainfall-runoff data collected from Sanbon basin. Also, the parameters were optimized using Rosenbrock technic. An estimated simulation error for peak discharge was about 7.4 percent and the result was quite acceptable. Results of the sensitivity analysis indicate that the percent of effective impervious area and ${\alpha}$ defining surface slope and roughness were the most sensitive variables affecting runoff volumes and peak discharge for low and high intensity storm respectively. In most cases, soil moisture accounting and infiltration parameters are the variables that give more effects to runoff volumes than peak discharge. Parameter ${\alpha}$ showed the opposite result.

This study was conducted to find end-members and tracers which are effective to be applied in the End Member Mixing Analysis (EMMA) model for runoff separation at the Gwangneung coniferous forest catchment (13.6ha), Gyeonggido, Korea. We monitored three successive rainfall events during two weeks from June 26, 2005 to July 10, 2005, and analysed chemical properties of rainfall, throughfall, stemflow, groundwater and soil water considered as main components of storm runoff. The followings are the results of analyses of each component and tracer. Groundwater, soil water and rainfall (or throughfall) were dominant runoff components. Rainfall and groundwater were selected as main components for the two components-one tracer mixing model, and groundwater, soilwater and throughfall were selected as main components for the three components-two tracers mixing model. Tracers were selected from anion ($Cl^-$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$), cation ($Na^+$, $K^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, and $Ca^{2+}$) and Acid Neutralizing Capacity (ANC) in event 1, 2, and 3. $Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}$ and ANC were selected in the two components-one tracer mixing model and ${SO_4}^{2-}-K^+$, ${SO_4}^{2-}-Na^+$, ${SO_4}^{2-}-Ca^{2+}$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$-ANC, and $Ca^{2+}$-ANC were selected in the three components-two tracers mixing model. Selected main runoff components and tracers can provide basic information to determine the contribution rate of each runoff component and identify the runoff process in a forest watershed.
Recently, various Best Management Practices (BMPs) have been applied at a field to reduce soil erosion. Hourly Runoff and Sediment Model for Best Management Practices (HRSM4BMP) model could be used to evaluate soil erosion reduction for various agricultural BMPs at fields. Runoff and sediment yield from source areas have to be predicted with greater accuracies to evaluate sediment reduction efficiently with BMPs. To achieve this, the best parameters related with runoff and sediment modules of the HRSM4BMP model should be identified with proper calibration processes. Although manual calibration is often utilized in calibrating runoff and sediment using the HRSM4BMP, objective calibration method would be recommended. The purpose of the study was to develop an automatic calibration tool of the HRSM4BMP model with PARASOL method. This automatic calibration tool was applied to Bangdongri, Chuncheon-si to evaluate its calibration performance. The $R^2$, NSE and RMSE value for runoff estimation were 0.92, 0.92, $0.3m^3$, and for sediment yield estimation were 0.94, 0.94, 0.0027 kg. As shown in this result, automatic calibration tool of HRSM4BMP model would be used to determine the best parameters and can be used to simulate runoff and sediment yield with acceptable accuracies.
For an accurate rainfall-runoff simulation in the river basin, not evaluation of runoff model but accurate runoff data are very important. In this study, SSARR model was applied to the Geum River basin and these results are compared with runoff data observed at the Gongju gauging station. The model results didn't good fit the discharge data determined from the rating curve at Gongju gauging station during normal and dry season, especially. For the reliability analysis for the existing rating curve, we observed new stream discharge set from 2003 to 2005. We also estimated long term runoff data from the base flow separation method and defined the hydraulic characteristics. The results show that the new observed stream discharge is similar to the rainfall-runoff model results but existing rating curve seems to be overestimated about 10-20% during normal and dry season. We found that the continuous monitoring and update for the existing rating curve at the gaging station are needed for accurate estimation of runoff data.

The MFFn(Mass first flush), EMCs(Event mean concentrations) and runoff loads were analyzed for various rainy events(monitoring data from 2011 to 2012) in transportation area(rail road in station). The pollutant EMCs by volume of stormwater runoff showed the BOD5 9.6 mg/L, COD 29.9 mg/L, SS 16.7 mg/L, T-N 3.271 mg/L, T-P 0.269 mg/L in the transportation areas(Railroad in station). The average pollutant loading by unit area of stormwater runoff showed the BOD5 $27.26kg/km^2$, COD $92.55kg/km^2$, SS $50.35kg/km^2$, T-N $10.13kg/km^2$ and T-P $10.13kg/km^2$ in the transportation areas. Estimated NCL-curve(Normalized cumulated-curve) was evaluated by comparison with observed MFFn. MFFn was estimated by varying n-value from 10% to 90% on the rainy events. The n-value increases, MFFn is closed to '1'. As time passed, the rainfall runoff was getting similar to ratio of pollutants accumulation. The result of a measure of the strength of the linear relationship between observed data and expected data under model was good.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of Land Surface Model (LSM) for estimating the runoff on East Asia. Global geographical and weather data are used as input for the model and for the model verification, the simulated runoff results are compared with observed data from 34 global observation stations provided by Global Runoff Data Center (GRDC). K$\ddot{o}$ppen's climate zone is used to calculate the model parameter for ungaged basins. As a result, the simulated runoff shows good performance comparing with observed data in 17 basins assumed as ungaged basins. The Hydrologic components on East Asia area are estimated from the model and the continental water balance components are seasonally similar to each country. Also, it reveals that runoffs from southern China, Japan and Taiwan are much higher than those from mongolian and northern China.
In this paper, the experiments with installing a rainfall storage tank in the sub-surface were conducted and the reduction rates of the total runoff volume were investigated. The analysis were conducted based upon the variations of the rainfall intensity, surface coverage and surface slope. The reduction rate of the runoff volume was varied from 42.3% to 52.9% with the soil in the bank of the Seung Gi stream. In the experiments, the rainfall intensities were varied from 40mm/hr to 100mm/hr and the results indicate that the direct runoff reduction can be obtained with the installation of the rainfall storage tank in the sub-surface. The variation of the stored volume in the tank is very large in the mild slope but very small in the steep slope with over 3% slope. With this results, the reduction of the direct runoff volume for the longtime flood is expected with the installation of the rainfall storage tank in the region haying the steep slope such as the mountain area.
