  • The Fix-to-Fix Navigation is the technique for aircraft pilots to find out estimated Heading when crossing from present fix to other fix to want to go in the air. Because this is based on the Rule of Thumb method from one's experience, it could not find out exact estimated Heading. Furthermore if the pilot nears going fix, Bearing Pointer and Course Indicator of HSI are too close to use this technique, that makes the pilot lost in the air. In this paper, We take Limits of Trigonometric Functions into the Fix-to-Fix Navigation to overcome these disadvantages. This study introduces two solutions using Limits of Trigonometric Functions when doing Fix-to-Fix Navigation and analyzes the error of this solutions.

  • Conductive and radiative thermal model configurations of an imager of a geostationary satellite are presented. A two-plane method is introduced for three dimensional conductive coupling which is not able to be treated by thin shell plate thermal modeling technique. Especially the two-plane method is applied to massive matters and PIP(Payload Interface Plate) in the imager model. Some massive matters in the thermal model are modified by adequate correction factors or equivalent thickness in order to obtain the numerical results of thermal modeling to be consistent with the analytic model. More detailed nodal breakdown is specially employed to the object which has the rapid temperature gradient expected by a rule of thumb. This detailed thermal model of the imager is supposed to be used for analyses and test predictions, and be correlated with the thermal vacuum test results before final in-flight predictions.

  • A forecast on the past output data sets of small bar steels is very important information to make a decision on the future production quantities. In many cases, however, it has been mainly determined by experience (or rule of thumb). In this paper, past basic data sets of each small bar steels are statistically analyzed by some graphical and statistical forecasting methods. This work is mainly done by SAS. Among various quantitative forecasting methods in SAS, STEPAR forecasting method was best performed to the above data sets. By the method, the future production quantities of each small bar steels are forecasted. As a result of this statistical analysis, 95% confidence intervals for future forecast quantities are very wide. To improve this problem, a suitable systematic database system, integrated management system of demand-production-inventory and integrated computer system should be required.

  • The conventional image segmentation method using level set has been disadvantage since level set function in the gradient-based model evolves depending on the local profile of the edge. In this paper, a new model is introduced by hybridizing level set formulation and complementary smooth function in order to smooth the driving force. We consider an alternative way of getting the complementary function(CF) which is much easier to simulate and makes sense for most cases having no triple junctions. The rule of thumb is that CF must be computed such that the difference between their average and the original CF function should be able to introduce a reliable driving force for the evolution of the level set function. This proposed hybrid method tries to minimize drawbacks the conventional level set method.

  • The vertical soil pressure developed in the granular layer of asphalt pavement system is influenced by various factors, including the wheel load magnitude, the loading speed, and asphalt pavement temperature. This research observed the distribution of vertical soil pressure in pavement supporting layer by investigating measured data from soil pressure gage in the KHC Test Road. The existing specification of subbase and subgrade compaction was also evaluated with measured vertical pressure. The finite element analysis was conducted to verify the accuracy of results with measured data because it can maximize research capacity without significant field test. The test data was collected from A5, A7, A14, and A15 test sections at August, September, and November 2004 and August 2005. Those test sections and test data were selected because they had best quality. The size of influence area was evaluated and the vertical pressure variation was investigated with respect to load level, load speed, and pavement temperature. The lower speed, higher load level, and higher pavement temperature increased the vertical pressure and reduced the area of influence. The finite element result showed the similar trend of vertical pressure variation in comparison with measured data. The specification of compaction quality for subbase and subgrade is higher than the level of vertical pressure measured with truck load so that it should be lurker investigated.

  • The purpose of the study is investigating the price fluctuation of landscaping plants in the Information on Commodity Prices(ICP) and the posted price fluctuation of landscaping plants of Public Procurement Service(PPS) recent 10 years. It also provides the basic information which can be applied to production and sales of landscaping plants, comparing with general price index. The major findings of the study are as follows. First, The price of investigated plants of PPS has increased about 4.56% in average recent 10 years. Among this increase, of evergreen tree was predominant. On the other hand, landscaping trees price of ICP has increased about only 2.34% in average. Secondly, The result shows that average price of investigated plants of PPS is positively related with the price of ICP. For this reason, we found that prices of ICP and of PPS move together in most case. However, we found that there are no relation between Consumer Price Index(CPI), Producer Price Index(PPI) and Agricultural Price Index(API). Therefore, price fluctuation of landscaping trees moves regardless of normal price fluctuation in general. Third, even though result shows that price index of evergreen trees, deciduous trees and shrubs are weakly related with normal price index partly, it was not high enough to be significant. According to the result, we found that price of landscaping plants is not related with market situation. For this reason, we thought that there are some difficulties for the reasonable production and sales of landscaping plants because the price is somewhat decided by rule of thumb. Therefore, understanding the composition of cost and making prediction by price fluctuation available are needed so that it can be practically conducive to reasonable production and sales.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare the resting energy expenditure (REE) measured using indirect calorimetry with that estimated using predictive equations in severe trauma patients to determine the appropriate caloric requirements. Methods: Patients admitted to the surgical intensive care unit between January 2020 and March 2023 were included in this study. Indirect calorimetry was used to measure the patients' REE values. These values were subsequently compared with those estimated using predictive equations: the weight-based equation (rule of thumb, 25 kcal/kg/day), Harris-Benedict, Ireton-Jones, and the Penn State 2003 equations. Results: A total of 27 severe trauma patients were included in this study, and 47 indirect calorimetric measurements were conducted. The weight-based equation (mean difference [MD], -28.96±303.58 kcal) and the Penn State 2003 equation (MD, - 3.56±270.39 kcal) showed the closest results to REE measured by indirect calorimetry. However, the REE values estimated using the Harris-Benedict equation (MD, 156.64±276.54 kcal) and Ireton-Jones equation (MD, 250.87±332.54 kcal) displayed significant differences from those measured using indirect calorimetry. The concordance rate, which the predictive REE differs from the measured REE value within 10%, was up to 36.2%. Conclusions: The REE values estimated using predictive equations exhibited substantial differences from those measured via indirect calorimetry. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the REE value through indirect calorimetry in severe trauma patients.

  • This paper investigates the subthreshold behavior of Fin Field Effect Transistor (FinFET). The FinFET is considered to be an alternate MOSFET structure for the deep sub-micron regime, having excellent device characteristics. As the channel length decreases, the study of subthreshold behavior of the device becomes critically important for successful design and implementation of digital circuits. An accurate analysis of subthreshold behavior of FinFET was done by simulating the device in a 3D process and device simulator, Taurus. The subthreshold behavior of FinFET, was measured using a parameter called S-factor which was obtained from the $In(I_{DS})\;-\;V_{GS}$ characteristics. The value of S-factor of devices of various fin dimensions with channel length $L_g$ in the range of 20 nm - 50 nm and with the fin width $T_{fin}$ in the range of 10 nm - 40 nm was calculated. It was observed that for devices with longer channel lengths, the value of S-factor was close to the ideal value of 60 m V/dec. The S-factor increases exponentially for channel lengths, $L_g\;<\;1.5\;T_{fin}$. Further, for a constant $L_g$, the S factor was observed to increase with $T_{fin}$. An empirical relationship between S, $L_g$ and $T_{fin}$ was developed based on the simulation results, which could be used as a rule of thumb for determining the S-factor of devices.

  • Metal sheet forming has been commonly used as the core technology in manufacturing parts of automobiles. It guarantees the highest production rate due to the process of mass production employing the press die. For precision of the product, the accuracy of the molds and its mechanic structures are considered as essential factors. One of these is fine blanking, which is utilized for the production of the metal sheet spring, with which clear sheer surfaces can be achieved in one operation from the materials. However, the current designs of press dies perform the forming analysis with the molds of rigid body, so they are focused on weight lightening by a rule of thumb. Therefore, this paper practice structural analysis about developing the semi fine-fine blanking technology. The semi fine-blanking can be run through the combination of the hydraulic cylinders and normal presses, so this paper analyze the amount of deformation according to the oil pressure. In addition, based on the plasticity of 50CrV4, the materials of the mold parts, the structural analysis and life analysis are proceeded, so they are expected to be useful as data for manufacturing the mold.

  • Overbreak occurred inevitably in a tunnel excavation, Is the main factor for increasing cost and time in tunnel projects. Furthermore the damage to the remained rock mass related to the overbreak can give rise to a serious safety problem in tunnels. As a rule of thumb, causes for the overbreak are inaccuracy in drilling, the wrong design of blasting and selection of explosives, and heterogeneity in rock mass. Specially, the geological features of the rock mass around periphery of an excavation are very important factors, so a lot of researches have been conducted to describe these phenomena. But the quantitative geological classification of the rock mass for the overbreak and the method for decreasing the amount of the overbreak have not been established. Besides, the technical improvement of the charge method is requested as explosives for the smooth blasting have not functioned efficiently. In this study, the working face around periphery of an excavation has been continuously sectionalized to 5∼6 parts, and the new Blastability Index for the overbreak based on 6 factors of RMD(Rock Mass Description), UCS(Uniaxial Compressive Strength) JPS(Joint Plane Spacing), JPO(Joint Plane Orientation), JPA(Joint Plane Aperture) and FM(Filling Material) is proposed to classify sections of the working face. On the basis of this classification, the distance between contour holes and the charging density are determined to minimize the overbreak. For controlling the charging density and improving the function of explosives, the New Deck Charge(N.D.C) method utilizing the deck charge method and detonation transmission in hole has been developed.
