N-nitrosamines can be produced in the process of heating, processing, storage and packaging. Migration specifications for N-nitrosamines exist only for rubber baby bottle nipples, which are regulated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). There is no regulation for other food contact substances (FCS) and studies on N-nitrosamines migration from FCS are rather limited. A pilot study showed an increase in N-nitrosamines contents when cooking instant noodles. Thus, the migration from the packaging was suspected and it was necessary to monitor the migration of N-nitrosamines from food packaging materials and to examine the change in N-nitrosamines contents when cooking instant foods. Three N-nitrosamines, NDMA (N-nitrosodimethtlamine), NDEA (N-nitrosodiethylamine), NDBA (N-nitrosodibutylamine), were analyzed in migration test solutions from plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene, papers and aluminium containers. In all test solutions, N-nitrosamines were detected less than method quantitation limits (MQLs). Food samples were also investigated to ensure that there is no effect from food contact substances when cooking instant foods. In retort sauces such as curry, black soybean sauce and tomato sauce, NDMA concentration was ranged from 0.54 to $3.81{\mu}g/kg$, but there were no significant differences between unheated and heated samples. However, the NDMA contents were significantly increased in most of the instant noodle samples tested when cooked (p < 0.05). No effects from the food contact substances or cooking water was observed. Only when the seasoning powder and noodles were cooked together was NDMA detected. Individual components (noodle, seasoning powder or dried vegetable) or other combinations such as noodles and dried vegetables did not generate N-nitrosamines. Therefore, it is speculated that NDMA may be formed from the precursors in noodles and seasoning powders when they are solubilized in a medium of water.

This paper intends to analyze the roles of regulations and certifications within the construction market that affect the effective recycling and application methods of construction waterproofing industries. Certifications, eco-labels, green certification patents, and new excellent technologies obtained in construction waterproofing industries are studied. In accordance to the study results, it was determined that, a total of 38 items obtained eco-labels with effective recycling as the theme, 10 items with green certifications, and 8 items with New Excellent Technologies. Regarding the types of effective recycled resources, most of them were concerned with composite-polymer(EVA, PVC, etc.) materials, waste tire powder, waste rubber, etc., which indicated that there is a clear limitation in the variety of the materials that are eligible for effective recycling in the construction waterproofing industries.
There are more than 15 millions cars or motors in Taiwan. According to the statistics from Environmental Protection Administration, the number of resulting scrap tires are near 110 thousand tons each year. The tire recycle programs in Taiwan were first conducted in 1989 and executed by ROC Scrap Tire Foundation. However, the current efficiency of the tire recycling industry still needs to be improved to minimize the environmental problem or fire hazards caused by scrap tires storage. Ten major tire-recycling factories are surveyed in this study. The investigations include the source of scrap tire, the shredding process, the market of products, the management of wastes disposal, and the difficulties of these sectors. As the varieties of the shredding machines of the recycle factories, there are three kinds of final products which include powder, granular, and chips. The wastes, wires and fibers, produced by the shredding process are the major problems fur all the factories. The percentage of the wire and fiber removal from rubbers still needs to be increased. The best approaches found in this study to increase the efficiency of scrap tire recycling processes are proposed which include the improvement of magnetic separation system fiber/rubber separation system and the minimization of waste disposal. A categorized standard of the processing outputs is suggested as a reference for the decision-making of the tire-recycling factories.
In this paper, the Fe-activated carbon fiber (ACF)/$TiO_2$ composite catalysts were prepared by a sol-gel method. The synthesized photocatalysts were used for the photo degradation of Methylene blue solution under UV light. From Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements (BET) data, it was shown the blocking of the micropores on the surface of ACF by treatment of Fe and Ti compound. As shown in SEM images, the ferric compounds and titanium dioxides were fixed onto the ACF surfaces. The result of X-ray powder diffraction showed that the crystal phase contained a mixing anatase and rutile structure and the 'FeO+$TiO_2$' from the composites. The EDX spectra for the elemental analysis showed the presence of C, O, and Ti with Fe peaks. Degradation activity of MB could be attributed to +OH radicals derived from electron/hole pair's reactions due to photolysis of $TiO_2$ and photo-Fenton effect of Fe.

More than 90% of roadway in the world are paved as asphalt concrete pavement due to its excellent properties compared with other paving materials; excellent riding quality, flexibility, anti-icing property and easy maintenance-ability. In this study, to make best use of the softer property of the asphalt mixture, the flexible sand asphalt mixture (FSAM) was developed for pedestrian ways. The mix design was conducted to prepare FSAM using PG64-22 asphalt, screenings (sand) less than 5mm, crumb rubber, hydrated lime and limestone powder without coarse aggregate. The deformation strength ($S_D$), indirect tensile strength (ITS) and tensile strength ratio (TSR) tests were conducted to make sure durability of FSAM performance. The impact energy absorption and flexibility were measured by drop-boll test and the resilient modulus ($M_R$) test. The impact energy absorption of FSAM was compared with normal asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, stone and concrete block for pedestrian way. As a result of drop-boll test, FSAM showed higher impact energy absorption compared with other paving materials with the range of 18% to 43%. Impact energy absorption of FSAM increased with increasing test temperature from 5 to $40^{\circ}C$. The results of $M_R$ test at $5^{\circ}C$ showed that the flexibility of FSPA was increased further, because the $M_R$ value of the sand asphalt was measured to be 38% lower than normal dense-graded asphalt mixture (WC-1). Therefore, it was concluded that the FSAM could provide a high impact absorbing characteristics, which would improve walking quality of the pedestrian ways.

Additive manufacturing (AM) or three-dimensional (3D) printing of metals has been drawing significant attention due to its reliability, usefulness, and low cost with rapid prototyping. Among the various AM technologies, fused deposition modeling (FDM) or fused filament fabrication is receiving much interest because of its simple manufacturing processing, low material waste, and cost-effective equipment. FDM technology uses metal-filled polymer filaments for 3D printing, followed by debinding and sintering to fabricate complex metal parts. An efficient binder is essential for producing polymer filaments and the thermal post-processing of printed objects. This study involved an in-depth investigation of and a fabrication route for a novel multi-component binder system with steel alloy powder (45 vol.%) ranging from filament fabrication and 3D printing to debinding and sintering. The binder system consisted of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as a binder and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and polylactic acid (PLA) as a carrier. The PVP binder held the metal components tightly by maintaining their stoichiometry, and the TPU and PLA in the ratio of 9:1 provided flexibility, stiffness, and strength to the filament for 3D printing. The efficacy of the binder system was examined by fabricating 3D-printed cubic structures. The results revealed that the thermal debinding and sintering processes effectively removed the binder/carrier from the cubic structures, resulting in isotropic shrinkage of approximately 15.8% in all directions. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) patterns displayed the microstructure behavior, phase transition, and elemental composition of the 3D cubic structure.

In this research the characteristics of ammonia removal from malodorous waste-air were investigated under various operating condition of biofiilter packed with equal volume of rubber media and compost for the efficient removal of ammonia, representative source of malodor frequently generated at compost manufacturing factory and publicly owned facilities. Then the optimum conditions were constructed to treat waste-air containing ammonia with biofilter. Biofilter was run for 30 days(experimental frequency of 2 times/day makes 60 experimental times.) with the ammonia loading from $2.18g-N/m^3/h$ to $70g-N/m^3/h$ at $30^{\circ}C$. The ammonia removal efficiency reached almost 100% for I through IV stage of run to degrade up to the ammonia loading of $17g-N/m^3/h$. However the removal efficiency dropped to 80% when ammonia loading increased to $35g-N/m^3/h$, which makes the elimination capacity of ammonia $28g-N/m^3/h$ for V stage of run. However, the removal efficiency remained 80% and the maximum elimination capacity reached $55g-N/m^3/h$ when ammonia loading was doubled $70g-N/m^3/h$ for VI stage of run. Thus the maximum elimination capacity exceeded $1,200g-N/m^3/day$(i.e., $50g-N/m^3/h$) of the experiment of biofilter packed with rock wool inoculated with night soil sludge by Kim et al.. However, the critical loading did not exceed $810g-N/m^3/day$ (i.e., $33.75g-N/m^3/h$) of the biofilter experiment by Kim et al.. The reason to exceed the maximum elimination capacity of Kim et al. may be attributed to that the rubber media used as biofilter packing material provide the better environment for the fixation of nitrifying and denitrification bacteria to its surface coated with coconut based-activated carbon powder and well-developed inner-pores, respectively.

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation of glutathione (GSH) on health, solid feed consumption, nutrient intake, body weight gain (BWG), feed efficiency, blood metabolites and the occurrence of diarrhea in Holstein neonatal calves. The calves were fed plain milk as a control (CON) or milk with GSH supplementation. Sixteen calves were separated from their mothers immediately after birth, moved into individual cages and fed colostrum for the first three days. For GSH supplementation, three grams of GSH powder were mixed in 1.8 L of heat-treated milk and placed in a plastic bottle with a rubber nipple. The calves were fed GSH-supplemented milk only once out of four daily feedings. For the first 25 d, calves were fed 1.8 L of milk four times per day. Milk feeding frequency was reduced to three times per day from days 26 to 30, followed by twice a day from days 31 to 44, and once a day from days 45 to 49, after which they were weaned at day 50. Body weight gain (BWG), feed consumption, and growth performance were monitored until day 70. The dietary supplementation of GSH had no effect on daily feed intake and growth performance in growing calves. Hematological results revealed red blood cell distribution width (RDW) was lower, and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) was significantly higher in calves fed GSH. Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) concentrations were lower in calves fed GSH. Rectal temperature at day 70 was higher in calves that did not receive GSH, while mean frequency of diarrhea and enteritis was less in calves fed GSH. It is concluded from the present study that BW gain, total dry matter intake (DMI), feed efficiency, and breathing rate did not differ between groups. However, there were some positive blood parameters and the mean frequency of diarrhea and enteritis was less in calves fed GSH compared to CON which did not receive GSH. With the results obtained, supplementation of GSH is highly recommended.
The present investigation provides an electromagnetic radiation absorptive composition which comprises silver-coated ferrite microspheres dispersed in silicon rubber matrix for the aim of thin microwave absorber in GHz frequencies. Ni-Zn ferrite spheres with $50{\mu}m$ size in average were prepared by spray-drying and sintering at $1130^{\circ}C$. Conductive silver layer was plated on ferrite spheres by electroless plating. Conductive Ni-Zn ferrite sphere with uniform silver layer were obtained in the concentration of 10 g/L $AgNO_3$ per 20 g ferrite spheres. For this powder, electrical resistance is reduced as low as $10^{-2}\~10^{-3}\;\Omega$. The most sensitive material parameters with silver plating is real and imaginary parts of complex permittivity. The conductive Ni-Zn ferrite spheres have large values of dielectric constant. Due to this high dielectric constant of microspheres, matching thickness is reduced to as low as 2 mm at the frequency of 7 GHz, which is much thinner than conventional ferrite absorbers.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acid etching on the surface appearance and fracture toughness of five glass ionomer cements. Five kinds of commercially available glass ionomer cements including chemical curing filling type, chemical curing lining type, chemical curing metal reinforced type, light curing tilling type and light curing lining type were used for this study. The specimens for SEM study were fabricated by treating each glass ionomer cement with either visible light curing or self curing after being inserted into a rubber mold (diameter 4mm, depth 1mm). Some of the specimens were etched with 37% phosphoric acid for 0, 15, 30, 60, go seconds, at 5 minutes, 1 hour and 1 day after mixing of powder and liquid. Unetched ones comprised the control group and the others were the experimental groups. The surface texture was examined by using scanning electron microscope at 20 kV. (S-2300, Hitachi Co., Japan). The specimens for fracture toughness were fabricated by curing of each glass ionomer cement previously inserted into a metal mold for the single edge notch specimen according to the ASTME399. They were subjected to a three-point bend test after etching for 0, 30, 60, and 90 seconds at 5 minutes-, 1 hour-and 1 day-lapse after the fabrication of the specimens. The plane strain fracture toughness ($K_{IC}$) was determined by three-point bend test which was conducted with cross-head speed of 0.5 mm/min using Instron universal testing machine (Model No. 1122) following seven days storage of the etched specimens under $37^{\circ}C$, 100% humidity condition. Following conclusions were drawn. 1. In unetched control group, crack was present, but the surface was generally smooth. 2. Deterioration of the surface appearance such as serious dissolving of gel matrix and loss of glass particles occured as the etching time was increased beyond 15 s following Immediate etching of chemical curing type of glass ionomer cements. 3. Etching after 1 h, and 1 d reduced surface damage, 15 s, and 30s etch gave rough surface appearance without loss of glass particle of chemical curing type of glass ionomer cements. 4. Light curing type glass ionomer cement was etched by acid, but there was no difference in surface appearances according to various waiting periods. 5. It was found that the value of plane stram fracture toughness of glass ionomer cements was highest in the light curing filling type as $1.79\;MNm^{-1.5}$ followed by the light curing lining type, chemical curing metal reinforced type, chemical curing filling type and chemical curing lining type. 6. The value of plane stram fracture toughness of the chemical curing lining type glass ionomer cement etched after 5 minutes was lower than those of the cement etched after 1 hour or day or unetched (P < 0.05). 7. Light curing glass ionomer cement showed Irregular fractured surface and chemical curing cement showed smooth fractured surface.
