Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a practical application class of wireless ad hoc networks, which consist of moving vehicles equipped with radio communication capabilities that collaborate to form a temporary network. This paper addresses issues and protocols of multihop routing in such emerging networks in the context of safety and infotainment applications. Due to the highly dynamic mobility of vehicles, frequent link breakage and short connection time are inevitable and, thus, the routing is a challenging task and interest for many researchers and industrial community. The frequent and dynamic change of topology makes the topology-based routing unreliable but the position-based routing more effective. The position-based routing consists of the location service which maps a node id to a geo-graphical position and the forwarding scheme which selects the next hop based on geo-graphical information of the node, its neighbors and the destination. The routing techniques are further categorized into geographical forwarding, trajectory forwarding and opportunistic forwarding based on the forwarding scheme. In this paper, we first present the distinguished properties of VANETs and the challenges and intractable issues posed in designing the routing protocols, followed by the comprehensive survey of existing routing protocols. Then, the different routing protocols designed for VANETs are compared in terms of characteristics, performance and application domains.

Reliable and secure data transmission in the application environment assisted by the wireless sensor network is one of the major challenges. Problem like blind forwarding and data inaccessibility affect the efficiency of overall infrastructure performance. This paper proposes routing protocol for forwarding and error recovery during packet loss. The same is achieved by energy and hops distance-based formulation of the routing mechanism. The reachability of the intermediate node to the source node is the major factor that helps in improving the lifetime of the network. On the other hand, intelligent hop selection increases the reliability over continuous data transmission. The number of hop count is factor of hop weight and available energy of the node. The comparison over the previous state of the art using QualNet-7.4 network simulator shows the effectiveness of proposed work in terms of overall energy conservation of network and reliable data delivery. The simulation results also show the elimination of blind forwarding and data inaccessibility.
Application Routing Load Balancing (ARLB) is a novel load balancing mode that combines QoS routing and load balancing in per application to support QoS far real-time application based on wired network. Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) is a recent hybrid proactive/reactive routing approach in an attempt to achieve scalability of ad-hoc network. This routing approach has the potential to be efficient in the generation of control traffic than traditional routing schemes. Up to now, without proper load balancing tools, the ZRP can actually guarantee QoS for delay-sensitive applications when congestion occurred in ad-hoc network. In this paper, we propose the ARLB to improve QoS fur delay-sensitive applications based on ZRP in ad-hoc network when congestion occurred and to be forwarding mechanism fur route coupling to support QoS for real-time applications. The critical point is that the routing metric of ARLB is originally designed for wired network environment. Therefore, we study and present an appropriate metric or cost computation routing of ARLB for recently proposed ZRP over ad-hoc network environment.

Cloud vehicular networks are a promising paradigm to improve vehicular through distributing computation tasks between remote clouds and local vehicular terminals. Software-Defined Network(SDN) can bring advantages to Intelligent Transportation System(ITS) through its ability to provide flexibility and programmability through a logically centralized controlled cluster that has a full comprehension of view of the network. However, as the SDN paradigm is currently studied in vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs), adapting it to work on cloud-based vehicular network requires some changes to address particular computation features such as task computation of applications of cloud-based vehicular networks. There has been initial work on briging SDN concepts to vehicular networks to reduce the latency by using the fog computing technology, but most of these studies do not directly tackle the issue of task computation. This paper proposes a Software-Defined Cloud-based vehicular Network called SDCVN framework. In this framework, we study the effectiveness of task computation of applications of cloud-based vehicular networks with vehicular cloud and roadside edge cloud. Considering the edge cloud service migration due to the vehicle mobility, we present an efficient roadside cloud based controller entity scheme where the tasks are adaptively computed through vehicular cloud mode or roadside computing predictive trajectory decision mode. Simulation results show that our proposal demonstrates a stable and low route setup time in case of installing the forwarding rules of the routing applications because the source node needs to contact the controller once to setup the route.

Real-time communication and diversification of multimedia application services using high-capacity data over the Internet demand high speed connection, and real-time and high-speed access internet service such as multimedia make Internet traffic increase rapidly. Meanwhile, QoS (Quality of Service) of internet service is not satisfied. In this situation, ISP (Internet Service Provider) has been required to improve service quality and extend network according to the user's needs. This request includes issue of extending network focused on increasing router and the number of routing table as well as simply extending bandwidth.
Recently, new network systems have begun to emerge (for instance, 5G, IoT, and ICN) that require capabilities beyond that provided by existing IP networking. To fulfill the requirements, some new networking technologies are being proposed. The promising approach of the new networking technology is to try to overcome the architectural limitations of IP networking by adopting an identifier (ID)-based networking concept in which communication objects are identified independently from a specific location and mechanism. However, we note that existing ID-based networking proposals only partially meet the requirements of emerging and future networks. This paper proposes a new ID-based networking architecture and mechanisms, named IDNet, to meet all of the requirements of emerging and future networks. IDNet is designed with four major functional blocks-routing, forwarding, mapping system, and application interface. For the proof of concept, we develop numeric models for IDNet and implement a prototype of IDNet.

Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) is adopted to enable effective and smooth communication among different networks. In some specific application, the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are used in IoT to gather peculiar data without the interaction of human. The WSNs are self-organizing in nature, so it mostly prefer multi-hop data forwarding. Thus to achieve better communication, a cross-layer routing strategy is preferred. In the cross-layer routing strategy, the routing processed through three layers such as transport, data link, and physical layer. Even though effective communication achieved via a cross-layer routing strategy, energy is another constraint in WSN assisted IoT. Cluster-based communication is one of the most used strategies for effectively preserving energy in WSN routing. This paper proposes a Bio-inspired cross-layer routing (BiHCLR) protocol to achieve effective and energy preserving routing in WSN assisted IoT. Initially, the deployed sensor nodes are arranged in the form of a grid as per the grid-based routing strategy. Then to enable energy preservation in BiHCLR, the fuzzy logic approach is executed to select the Cluster Head (CH) for every cell of the grid. Then a hybrid bio-inspired algorithm is used to select the routing path. The hybrid algorithm combines moth search and Salp Swarm optimization techniques. The performance of the proposed BiHCLR is evaluated based on the Quality of Service (QoS) analysis in terms of Packet loss, error bit rate, transmission delay, lifetime of network, buffer occupancy and throughput. Then these performances are validated based on comparison with conventional routing strategies like Fuzzy-rule-based Energy Efficient Clustering and Immune-Inspired Routing (FEEC-IIR), Neuro-Fuzzy- Emperor Penguin Optimization (NF-EPO), Fuzzy Reinforcement Learning-based Data Gathering (FRLDG) and Hierarchical Energy Efficient Data gathering (HEED). Ultimately the performance of the proposed BiHCLR outperforms all other conventional techniques.
