This paper presents the structural model development and verification processes of wind turbine blade. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available is used for the study. The wind turbine assembled by blades, rotor, nacelle and tower. The wind blade connected to rotor. To make the whole turbine structural model, the mass and stiffness properties of all parts should be clear and given. However the wind blade, hub, nacelle, rotor and power generating machinery parts have difficulties to define the material properties because of the composite and assembling nature of that. Nowadays to increase the power generating coefficient and cost efficiency, the highly accurate aerodynamic loading evaluating technique should be developed. The Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) is the emerging new way to evaluate the aerodynamic force on the rotating wind blade. To perform the FSI analysis, the fluid and structural model which are sharing the associated interface topology have to be provided. In this paper, the structural model of blade development and verifying processes have been explained for Part1. In following Part2 paper, the processes of whole turbine system will be discussing.

This paper presents the design procedure of a vertical wind turbine named jet-wheel-turbo turbine and the numerical and experimental verifications. The design parameters such as the rotor inlet angle, the diameter-to-hub ratio, the inlet guide outlet angle and the solidity were optimized to maximize the energy transfer, and to further increase the turbine efficiency by applying the side guide vane and the side opening to the rotor. The maximum power coefficient of 0.59, which is much higher than the ever-designed three-bladed horizontal turbines, was experimentally obtained when the optimal inlet- and side-guide vanes were installed and both sides of the rotor were 80% opened. The maximum power coefficients occur at the tip speed ratio ranging between 0.6 and 0.7. This vertical-axis turbine model can be applied to the large-scale power generation system with the speed and torque control algorithm for the specified wind characteristics.
An impeller is a type of high-speed rotor that is used to compress or transfer fluid under high-speed and pressure at high temperatures. The impeller is composed of an axial hub and several blades attached along the hub. The weight and shape of an impeller must be balanced, because their imbalances can cause noise and vibration, which can lead to the breakage of the impeller blades during operation. Thus, the hub and blades of an impeller are commonly machined in a 5-axis NC machine to obtain qualified surfaces. The impeller machining strategy or process plan can not be easily obtained due to the complex, overlapped and twisted shapes of impeller blades. Skillful machining process planners may generate appropriate machining strategies based on their experiences and floor data. However, in practice most shop floor data for the impeller machining is not well-structured such that it does not effectively provide a process planner with information for machining strategies and/or process plans. This paper reports the development of a case-based machining strategy support system (CBMS) that employs case-based reasoning to obtain the machining strategy of an impeller by using the existing machining strategies of the shop floor. The CBMS generates impeller machining strategies through a stepwise reasoning process considering the similarity features between the blade shapes and machining regions. A case study is provided to demonstrate that CBMS can generate useful machining strategies facilitating process planners. The developed system can simulate the tool paths of impeller machining and runs on the web.

The numerical analysis of a waterjet propulsion system was performed to provide detail understanding of complicated flow phenomena including interactions of intake duct, rotor, stator, and contracted discharge nozzle. The incompressible RANS equations were solved on moving multiblocked grid system. To handle interface boundary between rotor and stator, the sliding multiblock method was applied. The numerical results were compared with experiments and good agreement was obtained. The complicated viscous flow features of the waterjet, such as secondary flow inside the intake duct, the recovery of axial flow by the role of the stator, and tip and hub vortex, etc. were well analyzed by the present simulation. The performance of thrust and torque was also predicted.

This study using the active vibration control technique attempts to alleviate numerically the airframe vibration of a UH-60A helicopter. The AVCS(Active Vibration Control System) is applied to reduce the 4/rev vibration responses at the specified locations of the UH-60A airframe. The 4/rev hub vibratory loads of the UH-60A rotor is predicted using the nonlinear flexible dynamics analysis code, DYMORE II. Various tools such as NDARC, MSC.NASTRAN, and MATLAB Simulink are used for the AVCS simulation with five CRFGs and seven accelerometers. At a flight speed of 158knots, the predicted 4/rev hub vibratory loads of UH-60A rotor excite the airframe, and then the 4/rev vibration responses at the specified airframe positions such as the pilot seat, rotor-fuselage joint, mid-cabin, and aft-cabin are calculated without and with AVCS. The 4/rev vibration responses at all the locations and directions are reduced by from 25.14 to 96.05% when AVCS is used, as compared to the baseline results without AVCS.

The influence of the tip clearance upon the cavitation inception were investigated by experiments for ducted rotors having different tip clearances The axial and tangential mean velocities around the ducted rotors were measured using an L.D.V. system to investigate the correlation between tip vertex cavitation inception and hub vortex cavitation. Observation results for tip vortex cavitation and hub vortex cavitation show good agreement in trend with the analysis results of velocity measurement. An optimum tip clearance for ducted rotor was selected to delay the tip vortex cavitation.

Numerical study of three-dimensional turbulent flow in a forward curved centrifugal fan is presented. Standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates arc used to consider the turbulent flow field and complex geometry. Finite Volume approach is adopted for discretization scheme and structured grid system is used to help convergence. Multiblock grid system is used for flow field and divided into five domains that are inlet, outlet, impeller, tip clearance and scroll. It is assumed that the flow field is steady and incompressible. These numerical results are compared with the experimental data inside a rotor and at the fan outlet. Most important flow features are captured through this numerical approach. Finally details of flow field inside a fan are described and analyzed.

This paper studies the simulations of active airframe vibration controls for the Sikorsky X2 helicopter with a lift-offset coaxial rotor. The 4P hub vibratory loads of the X2TD rotor are obtained from the previous work using a rotorcraft comprehensive analysis code, CAMRAD II. The finite element analysis software, MSC.NASTRAN, is used to model the structural dynamics of the X2TD airframe and to analyze the 4P vibration responses of the airframe. A simulation study using Active Vibration Control System(AVCS) with Fx-LMS algorithm to reduce the airframe vibrations is conducted. The present AVCS is modeled using MATLAB Simulink. When AVCS is applied to the X2TD airframe at 250 knots, the 4P longitudinal and vertical vibration responses at the specified airframe positions, such as the pilot seat, co-pilot seat, engine deck, and prop gearbox, are reduced by 30.65 ~ 94.12 %.

The experimental study on the ducted fan for the propulsion system of a small UAV has been performed. In this paper, to investigate the three-dimensional unsteady flow field characteristics of the ducted fan, it was measured by using a $45^{\circ}$ inclined hot-wire from hub to tip at inlet, behind the rotor and outlet of the ducted fan. The hot-wire signal data was acquired at fixed yaw angle. The data was averaged by using the PLEAT (Phase Locked Ensemble Averaging Technique), and then three of non-linear equations were solved simultaneously by using the Newton-Rhapson numerical method. Flow characteristics such as tip vortex, secondary flow and tip leakage flow were confirmed through axial, radial and tangential contour plot.
