  • Condition monitoring(CM) is a method based on Non-destructive test(NDT). Therefore, recently many kind of NDT were applied for CM. Acoustic emission(AE) is widely used for the early detection of faults in rotating machinery in these days also. Because its sensitivity is higher than normal accelerometers and it can detect low energy vibration signals. A machine tool consist of many parts such as the bearings, gears, process tools, shaft, hydro-system, and so on. Condition of Every part is connected with product quality finally. To increase the quality of products, condition monitoring of the components of machine tool is done completely. Therefore, in this paper, acoustic emission method is used to detect a machine fault seeded in a gearbox. The AE signals is saved, and power spectrums and feature values, peak value, mean value, RMS, skewness, kurtosis and shape factor, were determined through Matlab.

  • The development of techniques in diagnosing the state of the system is one of the essential tools in establishing the automation and unmanned manufacturing system for the realization of CIM/FMS in the fields. In this paper, we developed various diagnostic schemes for the journal bearing supported rotor system. Up to now, vibration of the shaft, measurement of the displacement and the temperature have been used for diagnostic tools, however, the statistical features only could not differentiate the state from states. Thus, we identified the sensor data f3r the steady state in the signal processing and then applied the fuzzy c-mean technology to cope with the nonlinear characteristics of the system. This will, in return, establish a possible diagnostic system for the rotor system in the fields.

  • This paper presents the contact thermal behaviors of mechanical seals depending on the contacting face geometry. Using the finite element analysis, the temperature distribution, thermal distortion and leakage have been analyzed as functions of sealing gap and rotating speed of the seal ring shaft. The FE results indicate that the inclined contacting face may be more effective and stable based on the results of thermal characteristic analysis if the seal ring has been designed with a same thermal capacity between conventional rectangular sealing faces and inclined seating surface of seal rings.

  • In this paper, we investigate the rotordynamic characteristics of turbopump system for 9.5ton thrust liquid rocket engine. A finite element method is used to analyze the vibratior characteristics of a rotor-bearing system. The turbopump rotating system is modeled by shaft with sixty elements, nine rigid disks, four ball bearings and four floating ring seals. The calculation results show that the margin of 1st critical speed is increased from 12% to 68% by use of elastic damping ring. In addition, the margin of the 2nd critical speed near the operating speed is increased from 30% to 63% by the stiffness and damping of floating ring seals.

  • To get accurate natural frequencies of an engine crankshafts, finite element equations of motion are developed, taking real geometries of the shaft into account. For the crankshaft with wide crank webs, a specialized rotating web element is developed. This includes the effects of rotary inertia, gyroscopic moment, and shear. After the finite element equations are constructed, eigenvalues are extracted from the system equations to get natural frequencies, based on the Sturm sequence method which exploits the banded forms of the system matrices to reduce computations. The scheme developed can be used for the free vibration analysis of any type of spinning structures which include skew symmetric gyroscopic moment matrix in the system matrices. The results are compared with experimental data in order to confirm the study.

  • In order to meet the growing demands for higher storage density as well as lower noise level, the spindles In hard disk drives are to be supported by hydrodynamic bearings in place of conventional ones. However, the existing models are inappropriate to apply to accurate Prediction or vibration characteristics because the Inn spindle tends to take quite a complex shape to secure the performance of the new type bearings. In this context, this paper treats analysis of free and forced vibrations of such-designed HDD spindles based on more sophisticated models and validation by means of experiments. Remarkably, to this end each component in the system is modeled as elastic adopting the finite element method.

  • It was firstly issued that frequently broken of Encoder installed at travelling motor during RTGC operation. Estimated as broken due to excessive vibration of traveling and motor manufacturer claimed it as resonance of motor base. The principal vibration of Encoder was caused by the rotating vibration component of motor and by traveling wheel. The component transmitted from the wheel didn't have great vibration by the resonance with motor and other parts. Therefore, the plans was tried to add the support point to prevent the Encoder shaft vibrated greatly and inhibit the vibration. These showed good results.

  • Many research works for improving a boundary lubrication performance have been executed by using solid lubricants, and been tried to apply an engine lubrication. However those general lubricants have not been applied on engines due to the extreme conditions such as very high temperature and pressure during combustion process in a cylinder. In this study a lubricant containing copper alloy nano-powder is applied on a diesel engine driven by an electric motor. Torques and shaft vibrations are measured, then an engine friction loss and rotating stability are assessed. The results show that the frequency of the vibration is about the same as that of a general lubricant, but the amplitudes in the both X and Y direction are reduced as well as the friction loss is reduced.

  • This paper presents the new structure of a spindle motor for hard disk drive (HDD). It can produce axial force as well as torque without a pulling plate or a pulling magnet required for the normal operation of a hydrodynamic bearing in rotating-shaft structure. The proposed models have different air gap length along the axial direction by changing the thickness of permanent magnet (PM). One has a single slope and the other has double slopes on the surface of PM. For the design of the proposed models, variables are defined and its effects on the motor performances are investigated by 3-demensional finite element analysis (FEA). The equi-performance curves are investigated for the main characteristics of the spindle motor such as generated torque, axial force and torque ripple ratio. The validity of the proposed models is verified by the feasibility study and performance evaluation.

  • The wind turbine captures the wind's kinetic energy in a rotor consisting of two or more blades mechanically coupled to an electrical generator. In this paper is proposed models for wind energy power plants using V.A.W.T. and complex concepts using shapes of a half cylinder for blades. A familiar configuration for a drag-type wind machine is shown this paper. In this simple machine, kinetic energy in the wind is converted into mechanical energy in a vertical rotating shaft.
