철도차량의 Crashworthiness에 관한 실험 및 해석적 연구 (An Experimental and FEA on Crashworthiness of Rolling Stock)

  • The priority of Crashworthiness concept for rolling stock is progressively increasing to reduce the damage of drivers and passengers as well as the car. For the first step of this research, the analysis of the crash elements have been performed. Also the longitudinal collapse force and mode is important point for whole carbody structure to guarantee the lower force at end part rather than the main passenger area. The carbody quasi-static collapse analysis and real test has been performed in the research. The crash elements FEA and test has been performed as well. After the initial Analysis and test, the correlation analysis between the FEA and test has been performed by FEA tunning. All this result will be used for real crashworthiness design for carbody structure.

  • Signaling system, for which ensuring safe train operation, must be a fail-safe system with higher reliability and safety. TCS has made significant improvements both on signaling system, from relay based ground signaling system to computer based on-board system, and on driving mode, form low speed and low density driving to TCS supporting high speed and high density driving. In addition, TCS has been applied to rolling stock with a wide variety of context according to the characteristics of rolling stock or railway infrastructure. In this paper, therefore, we confirmed the basic concept of ATC system and analyzed its development process in technology context via referencing international cases and ATC systems introduced and applied in Korea. Based on those analyses, we suggested the new TCS development strategy for its suitable application to high speed line, conventional line and metro, and we also provided technical considerations related to TCS application.

  • In the article 16 of the domestic rolling stock crashworthiness regulations, the collision acceleration level during collision accidents should remain under the maximum 7.5g and the average 5g. By the way, the accelerations obtained in crash simulations and tests contain many kinds of high frequency components due to numerical oscillations or noisy signals. So, this paper aims to develop reliable post-processing methods to filter high frequency oscillations and extract the rigid body motions of passenger rail cars. For this study we used the 1-dimensional dynamic model of KHST (Korean high-speed train), and evaluated acceleration data at the driver's area in the first power car and the passenger area in the following trailer.

  • This paper presents the evaluation of fatigue life for a journal box attached to rolling stock bogie under random dynamic loading condition. Because a journal box was under random dynamic loading conditions, the fatigue life assessment due to these loads requires the analysis considering the multiaxial effect of random dynamic loading. To do this work, the finite element analysis has been conducted to calculate random dynamic response using multiaxial acceleration data. Then, the fatigue life assessment of component has been conducted using vibration fatigue analysis applying the power spectral densities of the responses obtained through the FEA The results of fatigue life assessment were compared to the damage from the strain measurement. This study shows that can be evaluated the fatigue life assessment considering real service condition about a component attached to rolling stock bogie.

  • This study introduces comparison the testing results of the AL car body which is applied to FSW and GMAW welding method. The car body is made of aluminum structure materials like a sandwich panel. The static load test was performed to evaluate the structural characteristic and stability of the AL car body. Considering the vertical, compressive, twisting load and 3-point supporting, Bend natural frequency Measurement, Twist natural frequency Measurement type as a testing terms, the structural stability of a car body was evaluated.

  • At the Rolling-stock, most important thing is thorough maintenance for safety as a mass transit. Recently, many studies of cost down method and acquisition of high reliability have being progressed with considering of safety. Maintenance cost is closely relative to the preventive maintenance. But generally the preventive maintenance is decided in compliance with an experience. So the study of cost down method at the preventive maintenance is difficult. In this study, many results of effectiveness and optimization for the preventive maintenance are checked. Then., it is possible that efficiency preventive maintenance method will be able to suggest.

  • This paper represents the comparison of harmonic loss characteristics of the inverter-driven 3-phase squirrel cage induction motor with slit and U-iron bridge slots of rotor. Two-dimensional time-stepped finite element method is used for electromagenetic field analysis. And spectrums of bar current, phase current, and torque are compared in each case.

  • Recently, as the railway vehicles become speedy and massive, the collision is being regarded as an important factor for the assessment of safety for passenger. And the study of collision is being in progress more actively in advanced nations. In this study, the collision analysis is performed by using non-linear dynamic finite element program PAM-CRASH. The carbody used in analysis is made of Aluminum AL6005A to realize lightweight, and designed and manufactured by DHI (Daewoo Heavy Industry) lately. For the accuracy of the result in the practical collision, the experiment of material properties has been performed. The result of the analysis shows the underframe of rolling stock is the most important part as a collision energy absorbing structure. Further study is needed for optimal design which enables the carbody shell structure to disperse absorbing energy adequately.

  • The Friction Stir Weld (FSW) has been prevailing in the rolling stock manufacturers now a day especially in Europe and Japan, that will be an inevitable welding method in Korean domestic railway industry in the near future. The Welding Institute (TWI) in United Kingdom (UK), who has the right of international patents, invented FSW. To meet the recommendation of Cullen's Report for Ladbroke Grove Rail Inquiry (LGRI) in UK, the FSW is considering for the only alternative welding method to improve the aluminium welding quality, i.e. for improve unzipping defect and crashworthiness on car body in Europe Railways within Railway Safety Research Program.
