  • $\textbullet$ This system executes the algorithm that makes the various types of shape to the flat shape. $\textbullet$ In old system, we could not develop and test the new shape control algorithms $\textbullet$ We developed the PC based cold mill shape control system. $\textbullet$ It can be added on the new shape control algorithm and is cost-effective and maintained easily. $\textbullet$ The shape control system consists of the shape controller, the MMI system and the Shape data sewer.

  • SPM dynamic model was developed by using Bland & Ford formulas considered elastic zone in roll gap, gauge meter equation, tension equation, speed equation and actuator models. And SPM controllers of the field were done model ing. It was shown the efficiency of constant tension, rol1ing force and elongation controllers by the simulation program and it was recommended the proper gain to the controllers of the field.

  • When hot strip is trimmed in the side trimming process at the entry side of tandem cold rolling mill, due to bad quality of trimming face and burr, product quality(saw ear)becomes so bad that it causes drop of yield and claim from customers. Therefore, it was examined that applying ultrasonic vibration is an effective method to improve quality of strip trimming face and decrease burr magnitude by decreasing shear force acting between strip trimming face and knife in side trimming process of cold rolling.

  • A set of approaches suggested to control the eccentricity is discussed in this paper. Among these, filter-integrator method is used to design the controller, which also includes the input signal synchronization, stabilizing filter and eccentricity source discrimination. Using the S/W that is coded for real time application of that controller, we simulated the operations of that one. The simulation results show the characteristics of eccentricity compensation and eccentricity discrimination. However, from these results, we can see that only proper stabilization strategy certificates the safe eccentricity control.

  • This paper deals with an exit strip gauge controller design for a cold rolling mill process with one input and two outputs. In order to attenuate the exit strip gauge variation caused by the Back-up roll eccentricity and the entry guage variation, an H$_{\infty}$ controller design methodology is used to keep the frequency weighted mixed sensitivity function small.   • The investigation deals with the process design in cold rolling mill of electric plant. In this study, multiple objective optimization is conducted by a genetic algorithm, where the fitness values are evaluated on the basis of one - dimensional model of flat rolling. The approach is applied to the determination of the process conditions which are optimal with regard to minimization of roll power and maximization of productivity.

  • Scale defects generated on the strip surface in a tandem finishing mill line are collected from the strip trapped among the production mills by freezing the growing scale on the strip by the melt glass coating and shutting down the line simultaneously. The samples observed of its cross sectional figure showed the process of scale defect formation where the defects are formed at the base metal surface by thicker oxidized scale during each rolling passes. The properties of the oxidized layer growth both at rolling and inter-rolling are detected down sized rolling test simulating carefully the rolling condition of the production line. The thickness of the oxidized layer at each rolling pass are simulated numerically. The critical scale thickness to avoid the defect formation is determined through the expression of mutual relation between oxidized layer thickness and the lanks of the strip called quality for the scale defects. The scale growth of scale less than the critical thickness and also to keep the bulk temperature tuning the water flow rate and cooling time appropriately. Two units of Inerstand Cooler are designed and settled among the first three stands in the production line. Two units of scale defect is counted from the recoiled strip and the results showed distinct decrease of the defects comparing to the conventionaly rolled products.

  • During the plate and foil cold rolling process, considerable values of the force of material pressure on the tool occur. These pressures cause the elastic deformation of the roll, thus changing the shape of the deformation legion. Rolled copper foils should be characterized by a good quality and light dimensional tolerances. Because of automation that is commonly implemented in flat product rolling mills, these products should meet the requirements of tightened tolerances, particularly strip thickness, and feature the greatest possible flatness. The shape of the roll gap is influenced by the elastic deformation of rolls parts of the rolling process affecter of the pressure force. However, to control roll deformation should be difficult. Because the foil thickness is very thin and the permissible deviations in the thickness of foil are small. In this paper, FE-simulation of roll deformation in thin foil cold roiling process is presented.

Analysis of Flaking Strength by Rolling Friction of ADI (구상흑연주철의 구름마찰에 대한 강도해석)

  • The structure of austempered ductile cast iron, called ADI, consists of graphite, retained austenite, and bainite. The bainite component of them is considered a useful structure for exriting materials for roll of rolling mill. Therefore, the ADI can be considered applicable to material for rolling contact element. The diverse tests, such as rolling contact friction test, impact test, and X-ray reflection test, were carried out to investigate the possibility of it`s application. The result of this study showed that the expected fact was confirmed. The specimen showed that the best performance had the structure of the low bainite containing the stable retained austenite of about 20%.

  • Extensive width reduction of slabs is an important technology for achieving continuous production between the steelmaking and hot rolling processes. However, the vertical horizontal rolling process has many disadvantages, e.g., large width deviations and less efficient width reduction. This study was carried out to investigate the deformation of slab by sizing press with two steps die. To do it, dog-bone and camber are discussed in width sizing process considering the deformation behavior according to the deviation of anvil velocity and the deviation of initial slab temperature. In this paper, the various causes of the sizing press phenomena are mentioned for the purpose of understanding of rolling conditions. As a result, the optimal anvil shape having a minimum-forming load is obtained by FE-simulation and ANN.
