Influence of Base Oils and Extreme Pressure Additives on Lubricity and Anti-Seizure Property of Lubricant in Cold Rolling (기유와 극압제가 압연유의 윤활성 및 내소부성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects on lubricity and the anti-seizure property of lubricant according to base oils and extreme pressure additives of sulfur type and phosphorous type in cold rolling were evaluated by a laboratory scale rolling mill, where the contact conditions between work roll and strip are very close to actual cold rolling mill. The important results were obtained as follows : (1) synthetic oil has better effect on lubricity than tallow, (2) lubricant with extreme pressure additives of sulfur type of phosphorous type has better effect than base oil noly, (3) the more amount of extreme pressure additives is, the better effect on lubricity is, (4) sulfur type has better effect on lubricity than phosphorous type and (6) phosphorous type has better effect on anti-seizure property than sulfur type.

  • This paper describes a new 14-CPU real-time distributed automatic gauge control (AGC) system for POSCO's No. 2 Hot Strip Mill at Pohang Works. The new AGC system has adopted gaugemeter AGC, Monitor AGC, and roll gap disturbance compensators. The computer system for the new AGC system has been developed based on VMEbus computer systems and a commercial real-time operating system. A VMEbus computer system is also used for the position servo control of hydraulic cylinders. All the application programs and input/output signals have been reasonably distributed over the control computer systems for the maximum reliability and effectiveness of the system. The new AGC system has been successfully used for the No. 2 Hot Strip Mill.

  • The looper control of hot strip finishing mill is one of the most important control item In hot strip rolling mill process. Loopers are placed between finishing mill stands and control the mass flow of the two stands. Another important action of the looper is to control the strip tension which influences on the width of the strip. So it is very important to control both the looper angle and the strip tension simultaneously but the looper angle and the strip tension are strongly interacted by each other. The gain scheduling is to break the control design process into two steps. First, one designs local linear controllers based on linerizations of the nonlinear system at several different operating conditions. Second, a global nonlinear controller for the nonlinear system is obtained by interpolating.

The Cause of Vibration at Finishing Stands in a Hot Strip Mill (열간 사상압연기에서의 진동 원인)

  • Chatter vibration of a rolling machine in steel plants has a significant effect on thickness quality of the products. The cause and mechanism of the mill chattering is addressed through measurement of vibration and dynamic torque. An FFT system and an FM telemetry system are employed to collect data at several locations of possible damages. The results reveal the followings as sources of the mill vibration. The first is defects in roller bearings of a work roll chock. The second is instability of an oil film bearing in a backup roll chock, which has been investigated with a theoretical model describing the phenomenon. Dynamic torque is not the direct cause of mill vibration but rather influenced by the vibration. Appropriate treatment methods are suggested to address each of the above sources.

  • This paper identifies a linear time-invariant mathematical model of each stand of a five-stand tandem cold mill to design a robust $H_\infty$ thickness controller by applying input and output data sets to N4SID (Numerical algorithms for Subspace State Space System Identification) method. The input-output data sets describe interstand interference in the process of tandem cold rolling and are obtained from a nonlinear simulator of the tandem cold mill. In result, it is shown that the identified model well approximates the nonlinear model than a Taylor linearized model. Furthermore, uncertainties including roll eccentricity and incoming strip variation are quantitatively analyzed from the plot of maximum singular values.

  • This document illustrates the relationship between the wire rod wrinkle defect and the roll caliber design. The wrinkle defect is caused by the incongruent rolling conditions of the roll caliber design, the roll adjustment, and the extracting temperature. In this document, we restrict the study scope to the roll caliber design's effect on wrinkle defect at the base of real condition of the No.2 Wire Rod mill, POSCO. There has been wrinkle defect problem in the No.2 Wire Rod Mill, POSCO for many years. The engineers of the wire rod mill have been making efforts to solve the problem. As one of the efforts, we take the samples of the wire rod in the each stands of the 2'nd wire rod mill and then analyze the samples. Through the analysis, we find out the problem of the roll caliber design. So, we suggest the roll caliber design method to be more effective to weaken the wrinkle defect.

  • 분쇄도구는 점차수차, 풍차 그리고 증기기관이란 동력기술과 맞물려 제분공정이 대규모화되어 지배자는 이를 독점, 집중화시켜 마침내 공장제도의 원형이 이루어졌던 것이다. 여기서 우리는 wind mill, water mill, rolling mill, miller, milling M/C 등 단어가 뜻하듯 단순히 "제분하는 기계" 뿐만 아니라 "자연력으로 구동되는 기계설비를 사용하였던 모든 Manufacture"라는 것을 공통어 밀(mill)에서 엿볼 수가 있다. James Watt의 증기기관이 실용 중에도 한동안 수차는 산 업 여러 분야에서 동력원으로 자리를 지켜 왔지만 현재는 획기적으로 성능이 좋은 Francis, Pelton, 및 Ossberger 수차가 상업발전소에서 쉬지 않고 돌아가고 있다. 통차, 동미차, 번차, 수대, 연애, 파쇄 등 전통적인 수차와 석구가 기본이 되어 분명히 근세 생산기계설비를 발명케 하였고 동력원으로서 화려한 전성기를 누렸다. 지금은 역사속에 잊혀져 가지만 우리는 시골 산간에서 돌아가는 물레방아의 수연한 고태를 볼 때면 민속문화학, 그리고 기술사적 측면에서 문화재로서의 명맥을 기려 잘 보존할 의무가 절실하다고 생각한다. 보존할 의무가 절실하다고 생각한다.

So it is very important to control both the looper angle and the strip tension simultaneously but the looper angle and the strip tension are strongly interacted by each other. There are many control schemes such as conventional, non-interactive, LQ, LQG/LTR, and ILQ control in the looper control system. In this paper, we present the modeling for the looper of a hot strip finishing mill to control the tension of the strip and suggest the non-interactive(cross) and LQG/LTR control method.

  • The production of advanced high strength steels requires the improvement of cooling technology. The use of high cooling rates allows relatively low levels of expensive alloying additions to ensure sufficient hardenability. In classical annealing and hot-dip galvanizing lines a mixing station is used to provide atmosphere gas containing 3-5% hydrogen and 97-95% nitrogen in the various sections of the furnace, including the rapid cooling section. Heat exchange enhancement in this cooling section can be insured by the increased hydrogen concentration. Drever International developed a patented improvement of cooling technology based on the following features: pure hydrogen gas is injected only in the rapid cooling section whereas the different sections of the furnace are supplied with pure nitrogen gas; the control of flows through atmosphere gas management allows to get high hydrogen concentration in cooling section and low hydrogen content in the other furnace zones. This cooling technology development insures higher cooling rates without additional expensive hydrogen gas consumption and without the use of complex sealing equipments between zones. In addition reduction in electrical energy consumption is obtained. This atmosphere control development can be combined with geometrical design improvements in order to get optimised cooling technology providing high cooling rates as well as reduced strip vibration amplitudes. Extensive validation of theoretical research has been conducted on industrial lines. New lines as well as existing lines, with limited modifications, can be equipped with this new development. Up to now this technology has successfully been implemented on 6 existing and 7 new lines in Europe and Asia.
